Splash Mountain Construction Continues

Splash Mountain construction is well underway so we decided to stop by the other day to get a better look at the progress.

The old Splash Mountain sign with Brer Rabbit atop is no longer in place. We also noted that some of the birdhouses have been removed.

Some of the signs are still in place.

Above you can see the line entrance sign has yet to be taken down.

Guests traversing the pathway to the train can still spot the Brer Rabbit sign on the building just to the left.

If only we could rescue him! Poor Brer Rabbit.

The kid’s play area is still in place and open for use.

Scaffolding has gone up around the mountain on both sides while work continues on the facade and upper-level ride track.

We can see the birdhouse has been removed from here.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Coming Soon

The construction walls still in place advertise the coming attraction.

Splash Mountain opened in October 1992 and recently closed its doors on January 23, 2023. Tiana’s Bayou Adventures will be taking its place.

Disney Parks gives us a little info on what to expect with the new Tiana-themed attraction.

“In Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, you’ll join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans. This new scene is the thrilling moment you first drop into the bayou and encounter some friends both new and familiar.”

I imagine they will be able to re-purpose quite a bit from Splash Mountain. I think it will be nice to keep a bit of the nostalgia sort of hidden in there sort of like Mr. Toad in the Haunted mansion Cemetary or the picture of Mr. Toad handing the deed to his home over to owl in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction.

Disney Gossip and More Possible Changes

There has even been gossip of Disney re-theming Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe into a Tiana-themed one.

The location of Pecos Bills would be perfect since it’s just across from the coming soon attraction. Who could be mad at beignets?

I will miss Splash Mountain but I understand change and progress is inevitable. While I hope they keep a little hidden nod to Splash Mountain here and there I am sure the new attraction will be really nice.

Toy Story Roundup Rodeo BBQ Reservations Available Starting February 21st

Yee-haw! Andy’s backyard will welcome more toys when Roundup Rodeo BBQ opens in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 23rd. A unique collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Disney Pixar Animation Studios, and Walt Disney World Food & Beverage, this one-of-a-kind dining experience will be the first “Toy Story” table service restaurant in the world.

Like all of Toy Story Land, Roundup Rodeo brings to life the stories, characters and heart from the award-winning Disney Pixar “Toy Story” films. It is a place where guests shrink to the size of a toy and feel like they have stepped into a clever, whimsical world filled with beloved toys.

Andy has created a new rodeo arena for all of his favorite toys, featuring game pieces and iconic “Toy Story” characters, stickers and more. Imagineers worked closely with Disney Pixar Animation Studios to bring the space to life, developing unique designs and artwork that can only be found in the restaurant. “We are thrilled to work with our partners at Disney Pixar Animation Studios to create this unforgettable dining experience that blends great food, storytelling and whimsy,” said Ben van Beusekom, senior artisan specialist, Walt Disney Imagineering. “A visit to this special place is a must for Toy Story fans who have come to love Andy and his toys as much as we do.”

When guests step into Roundup Rodeo BBQ, they become Andy’s honorary toys. Arriving in the dining room, they enter a scene depicting a toy rodeo in full swing and come face-to-face with life-size figures. Jessie and Trixie take the reins in the first dining space, while Bo Peep and her sheep command center stage in the second.

Absorbed in the action, guests are fully immersed in Andy’s imagination – and the world he has created.

Barbecue-Inspired Fare

Supper’s on! Offering the same menu at both lunch and dinner, Roundup Rodeo BBQ will serve its favorite barbecue-inspired fare in a family-style setting.

Scuttle has returned to the Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid queue in the Magic Kingdom. Scuttle took a 6-month vacation from greeting guests in the queue but officially returned last week.

Your underwater adventure takes you below the waves on a tour of Ariel’s gadget-filled grotto. Immersive special effects and hand-drawn animation sequences recreate each unforgettable scene. 2023 Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Winner LVII Patrick Mahomes is going to Disneyland

After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a historic Super Bowl victory Sunday night in Arizona, Patrick Mahomes paused for a moment amid the euphoria of his team’s championship performance and revealed that he is going to the one place every NFL player longs to go after the big game: “I’m Going to Disneyland!’’

As confetti rained down around him, Mahomes looked directly into the on-field TV cameras and shouted that iconic phrase that has been jubilantly uttered immediately after dozens of Super Bowl games. His proclamation is the centerpiece of Disney’s annual Super Bowl commercial, airing now on social media sites and major TV networks nationwide.

On Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, the Super Bowl celebration goes to the next level when Mahomes stars in a colorful and high-energy cavalcade through Disneyland park in California. Guests in Disneyland park can watch the celebratory cavalcade as they travel past Sleeping Beauty Castle and down Main Street, U.S.A., at 1:30 p.m. PT.*

Before the cavalcade, Mahomes will spend the morning with family and friends experiencing some of the park’s most popular attractions, interacting with beloved Disney characters, and generally having the time of his life at The Happiest Place on Earth. And even more special this year, Disneyland Resort is joining in the celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary, honoring its incredible storytellers, creators, and fans. The Disney100 celebration at Disneyland Resort is now in full swing and features a new attraction, two stunning new nighttime spectaculars, dazzling décor, special food and beverages, and more!

It will be another incredible day after Mahomes monumental evening Sunday when he led the Chiefs to a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the biggest game of the year, one that included two Black starting quarterbacks for the first time in Super Bowl history (Mahomes and Jalen Hurts). He threw three touchdown passes including two in the fourth quarter to propel his team to the win and catapult himself into Disney history with his inclusion in the national TV spot and visit to Disneyland Resort. It was the second championship in the last four years for Kansas City.

Mahomes is now a member of the fraternity of NFL megastars who have been a part of Disney’s long-standing Super Bowl tradition that began in 1987 when New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms first appeared in the commercial following his team’s Super Bowl victory.

Hong Kong Disneyland Offering Free Flights

Hong Kong Disneyland Offering Free Flights

Starting next month, Hong Kong will be offering free flights in an attempt to get visitors to return! The city will be giving away 500,000 free flights through three Hong Kong-based airlines: Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and HK Express.

This giveaway is part of the city’s “Hello, Hong Kong” tourism campaign to get visitors to return to Hong Kong. With half a million tickets up for grabs, the operators of the campaign hope the winners bring friends and family with them. They believe that will get 1.5 million visitors to Hong Kong.

The winners of the free tickets will also receive:

A complimentary welcome drink at more than 100 participating hotels, bars, and restaurants
A HK$100 ($13) voucher to be put towards dining and shopping around the city
A special surprise gift when visiting certain attractions and museums

Beginning March 1, the tickets will be given away in three phases. The first phase will be offered to residents of South East Asian countries only. Then, on April 1, the giveaway will be rolled out to those in mainland China. And finally, on May 1, it will be extended to travelers from the rest of the world.

Those interested in applying can do so on the Airport Authority Hong Kong website. Winners will still be required to pay any taxes and fees that are applicable to their flight.

Cathay Pacific will also offer a limited number of generously discounted tickets for US and Canadian travelers starting May 1st.

This campaign will hopefully provide a much-needed boost in tourism for Hong Kong. Visitors are still required to test negative for Covid-19 before they depart on their trip to Hong Kong and masks are still required on public transport, as well as indoor and outdoor public places.

Haunted Mansion Finally Reopens after Holiday Overlay

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion finally reopens after closing for refurbishment. The attraction closed to switch back to its regular version after having the holiday overlay for an extended period.

The Haunted Mansion Holiday is an overlay where characters from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” take over the attraction. It is typically in place from September to early January for Halloween and Christmas. This holiday season the overlay stayed for an extended couple of weeks.

Haunted Mansion closes briefly before and after to install and then remove the holiday overlay. It has now reopened with its regular version for guests to enjoy.

In Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

A century after Walt and Roy Disney first opened for business in 1923, their remarkable legacy lives on in ways they never could have imagined.

Later tonight, we’ll premiere a very special commercial during the Super Bowl honoring 100 years of unrivaled storytelling and innovation, and I wanted to personally share it with all of you first.
