Avatar: Fire and Ash Projected to Rake in $350M+ This Weekend
As the final major blockbuster of 2025, Avatar: Fire and Ash is poised to ignite the box office with a projected global opening between $340M and $380M. All eyes are on James Cameron to see if this third installment can maintain the franchise’s legendary momentum through the holiday season.
If these projections hold, Avatar: Fire and Ash will secure the year’s second-largest debut, trailing only the massive global success of Disney’s Zootopia 2, which premiered last month. This would give the Walt Disney Company a clean sweep of the year’s top three openings, rounded out by the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake.
While the domestic numbers are strong, international estimates of $250M to $275M are slightly behind the $310M overseas launch of The Way of Water. Global audiences are already heading to theaters in markets like France, Germany, Korea, and Italy, where the film debuted today, with a highly anticipated premiere in China set for this Friday.
Current domestic presales indicate that Fire and Ash is trailing its predecessor by roughly 30%, with an expected opening closer to $90M+ compared to the $134.1M debut of The Way of Water. Beyond the financial tracking, the film is also facing a tougher critical reception; it currently holds a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes, marking a steady decline for the franchise after the original’s 81% and the sequel’s 76%.
James Cameron returns to the director’s chair for this latest epic adventure, leading a massive ensemble cast. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their iconic roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri, joined by returning stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. The world of Pandora also expands with the addition of David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh, alongside a talented supporting cast including Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Bailey Bass.
The saga expands with the introduction of the Ash People, a fierce new clan of Pandorans that will challenge everything we know about the moon. Avatar: Fire and Ash is built for the biggest screens possible, arriving exclusively in theaters on December 19, 2025. To fully experience James Cameron’s vision, fans can catch it in premium formats including IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, RealD 3D, 4DX, and ScreenX.
Stitch and Disney VoluntEARS Bring Holiday Joy to Kids Worldwide
The holiday season began with an extra dose of ohana as Disney Cruise Line VoluntEARS teamed up with the mischievous Stitch to spread cheer. Together, they traveled across Central Florida and The Bahamas, delivering special holiday gifts and unforgettable smiles to local children.
These visits are a cornerstone of Disney’s Holiday Magic Tour, a global initiative dedicated to uplifting kids and communities through festive events, generous donations, and signature Disney surprises. In Central Florida, Disney VoluntEARS from the Disney Fantasy—currently sailing out of Port Canaveral—made a surprise stop at Endeavour Elementary School in Cocoa. They delivered holiday gifts to nearly 100 excited students, while Stitch stole the show by dancing with teachers, sharing hugs, and posing for playful photos with the kids.
“At Disney Cruise Line, we know the happiness of a single moment can create memories that last a lifetime for kids and families—especially during the holidays,” said Beth Thibodaux, director of external affairs for Disney Cruise Line. “That’s why we’re proud to support Brevard County students all year through learning programs, grants and more. This holiday celebration is one of the moments our VoluntEARS look forward to the most.”
The magic of the season crossed the ocean as Disney VoluntEARS delivered hundreds of holiday gifts to three different Bahamian communities. Crew members from the Disney Fantasy teamed up with Stitch to visit Woodcock Primary School in Nassau, while also hosting students from Deep Creek Primary School in Eleuthera for a high-energy celebration filled with games and dancing. Meanwhile, in Abaco, the island crew from Disney Castaway Cay spread further joy by hand-delivering presents to children at three local schools.
“Our port communities are incredibly important to us at Disney Cruise Line so we want the residents to feel like we are a part of their communities,” said Joey Gaskins, regional director, public affairs, Disney Cruise Line. “Through the meaningful impact our VoluntEARS make year-round, their dedication shines even brighter during the holiday season when giving back matters most.”
James Cameron Accused of Stealing Key Elements for Avatar: The Way of Water
A new legal battle has surfaced over the world of Pandora. An animator has filed a lawsuit against Disney and director James Cameron, alleging that the 2022 blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water contains copyright-protected material stolen from their original work.
According to Reuters, Eric Ryder alleges that he collaborated with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment in the late ’90s to develop a film based on his sci-fi story, KRZ. Ryder claims that Cameron subsequently lifted elements from that story for the Avatar franchise.
While Ryder filed a similar lawsuit in 2011 concerning the original film, a California court dismissed it, ruling that Cameron had conceived of Avatar before Ryder’s submission. However, this new litigation insists it is not a “retrial” of old grievances. Instead, it targets specific, new instances of alleged copying found for the first time in The Way of Water.
Ryder is now seeking $500 million in damages for copyright infringement, breach of contract, and unfair competition. He is also requesting a court order to block the release of the upcoming sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is currently slated to hit theaters this Friday, December 19.
Attorney Daniel Saunders, representing Eric Ryder, released a scathing statement describing the situation as “downright theft” of creative work to build the third highest-grossing film in history. The lawsuit argues that Avatar: The Way of Water goes far beyond sharing vague similarities with Ryder’s story, KRZ. Instead, it alleges the film duplicates specific “character architecture, plot sequencing, and thematic construction” that were entirely missing from James Cameron’s earlier drafts.
Central to the case is the introduction of a life-extending substance harvested from animals—a key plot device in The Way of Water. Ryder claims this is the exact “unique and highly specific narrative mechanism” he disclosed to Cameron’s team years ago. The suit emphasizes that this device has no documented origin in Disney or Lightstorm’s independent development history, appearing only after they had access to Ryder’s proprietary work.
The similarities cited in the lawsuit are striking: Ryder’s original story, KRZ, features anthropomorphic beings and a vast oceanic setting centered on a moon orbiting the gas giant Europa. The plot follows a “sinister, Earth-based corporation” conducting destructive mining operations—themes that closely mirror the conflict in the Avatar sequels. This high-stakes legal battle comes at a time of massive financial success for the director; James Cameron was recently declared a billionaire, with a net worth now estimated at $1.1 billion.
For Real Life! Bluey Is the #1 Most-Streamed Series of 2025
In its year-end “Wrapped” recap for 2025, Disney revealed that Bluey has officially claimed the crown as the most-watched series across its streaming platforms. The Australian phenomenon dominated both Disney+ and Hulu, outpacing massive franchises and original dramas to secure the top spot for the year.
Disney shared these record-breaking milestones through a series of interactive GIFs, revealing that Bluey was rewatched an incredible 26.5 million times in 2025. But the Heeler family wasn’t the only winner:
Moana 2 dominated globally as the #1 movie in every U.S. state and nearly every country, amassing 80 million views.
Fans engaged with the platform like never before, taking over three million virtual Incredicoaster rides and redeeming four million Disney+ Perks.
Dancing with the Stars officially took the title of the platform’s most-watched live broadcast.
This dominance isn’t surprising given Disney’s massive investment in the Bluey brand. Fans have plenty to look forward to, including a feature film in 2027, a brand-new Disney World experience, a Disneyland stage show, and even meet-and-greets coming to the Disney Cruise Line next year.
Scaffolding Comes Down at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as Refurbishment Progresses
Things are looking a whole lot wilder in Frontierland as scaffolding has officially been removed from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. Just days after Disney shared a reopening window for the attraction, most of the visible scaffolding around the coaster has now come down, giving guests a clearer look at the progress happening on the runaway train favorite.
From areas visible along the guest walkways, all publicly viewable scaffolding appears to be gone. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been undergoing extensive testing for several weeks now following a major refurbishment that included replacing the entire coaster track and refreshing the ride vehicles. With that level of work, Disney requires prolonged testing without riders to ensure everything is running safely and smoothly before reopening.
While construction walls were shifted forward last week, they have not moved since. The walls continue to block the main entrance to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and still extend toward the Frontierland train station. Previously, the walls ran closer to the exit queue and the former Rivers of America area, but access to the attraction remains fully closed for now.
Disney has confirmed that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is slated to reopen in spring 2026, and when it does, guests can expect an updated opening scene as part of the refresh. Until then, it is full steam ahead behind the scenes as testing continues on the newly refurbished coaster.

The design of this cardigan is basically a warm hug in clothing form. It features a super soft knit pattern showing our favorite silly old bear and his bestie Piglet floating among a sea of hearts. But it’s the “extra” details that really steal the show: we’re talking dainty ribbon bows and elegant pearl buttons that give the whole piece a total “coquette” aesthetic. It’s the perfect centerpiece for a Valentine’s Day outfit, but honestly, it’s cute enough to wear any day you’re feeling a little whimsical.
Finding a high-quality, detailed knit like this for under fifty bucks is a total win, especially for an exclusive Disney piece. Stay “Purr-fectly” Warm This Winter with New Aristocats Beanies at the Disney Store!
Winter is officially creeping in, but staying cozy doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your Parisian flair. The Disney Store just dropped a “purr-fectly” adorable collection of Aristocats beanies by Cakeworthy, and they are the ultimate winter accessory for anyone who knows that “everybody wants to be a cat.” Each beanie retails for $34.99 and is available right now online, just in time for the film’s 55th anniversary!
First up is the star of the show, Marie. You can keep purr-fectly warm during the winter chill in this soft, white fleece beanie. It’s got all the classic Marie details, including her signature plush ears and that iconic tuft of fur accented with a pretty pink satin bow. But the cuteness doesn’t stop there, the back features Marie’s “signature” embroidered right above satin ties that form a second bow. If you’re wondering why you might need more than one, just remember her famous words: “Because I’m a lady, that’s why.”
If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous (or maybe you just want to show off your artistic side), you’ll want to snag the Toulouse beanie. It’s designed to help you feel as brave as the eldest Aristocat kitten, even if you’re just facing a snowy morning instead of alley cats. This super-soft orange fleece hat features plush ears on top and “Toulouse” embroidered on the back. To complete the look, it comes with bright blue ties to form a bow, perfectly matching the ribbon Toulouse is known to wear.
Last but certainly not least, you can show off your playful side with the Berlioz beanie. Inspired by the youngest of the three siblings, this charcoal-colored fleece hat captures his adorable and mischievous spirit. Like his siblings, Berlioz’s beanie features plush ears sitting right on top. The highlight here is the red satin ties at the back, which easily form a bow to finish off his signature look. It’s the perfect choice for anyone practicing their scales and arpeggios this season.
Whether you’re a Marie devotee or a fan of the whole kitten crew, these Cakeworthy beanies are a cozy way to celebrate Disney royalty. You can find all three kittens online at the Disney Store now!

YouTube Named the New Home of the Oscars Starting in 2029
After airing on ABC since 1976, the Academy Awards (Oscars)—the world’s most-watched awards ceremony—will officially move to a streaming-only platform starting in 2029. This landmark deal represents a new era for the Academy, encompassing not only the main ceremony but also the red carpet coverage, the official nominations announcement, the Governors Awards, and more.
Disney will maintain broadcasting rights for the Oscars through 2028, concluding a long-standing era with the 100th Academy Awards. Starting in 2029, the ceremony will transition to YouTube, where it will be streamed for free to a global audience of billions and offered to YouTube TV subscribers in the U.S. This new partnership with YouTube (owned by Alphabet Inc.) includes not just the awards themselves, but a suite of additional programming that serves as the Academy’s primary revenue driver.
This deal brings the entire “Oscar Season” to YouTube. From the high-stakes nominations announcement to the honorary Oscars presented at the Governors Awards, fans will have front-row access to every major milestone. The coverage also includes the Nominees Luncheon, behind-the-scenes content, and the Scientific and Technical Awards.
The digital transformation continues with the Academy Museum, which will partner with Google Arts & Culture to open its doors to the world. By digitizing select exhibitions and portions of their 52-million-item collection, the Academy is ensuring that film history is more accessible than ever before.
The outgoing home of the Oscars issued a statement of its own: “ABC has been the proud home to The Oscars for more than half a century. We look forward to the next three telecasts, including the show’s centennial celebration in 2028, and wish the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences continued success.”
