Fresh Coat of Paint Unveiled for Magic of Disney Animation Building

A fresh splash of peach paint now adorns the upper trim of The Magic of Disney Animation building. Located in the Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this structure—formerly home to Star Wars Launch Bay—is sporting a subtly updated look as part of its ongoing maintenance.

The building’s facade continues its colorful transformation with peach accents now flanking the large central columns. This follows a busy month of updates: those same columns were painted beige just weeks ago, while the railings along the overhang received a fresh coat of green. Interestingly, the project appears to be a work in progress—while the right overhang has been transitioned to beige, the left side currently remains gray.

The building’s transformation will culminate with the addition of a giant Sorcerer Mickey hat nestled between the pillars. This design choice mirrors the architectural signature of the Roy E. Disney Animation Building, bridging the gap between the Hollywood Studios park and the company’s actual animation headquarters.

May 26 marks the opening of Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! and the debut of the refreshed Animation Courtyard. While we’re still waiting on an opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation, the attraction is confirmed to feature six new meet-and-greets, an Olaf-hosted art class, and a playground themed after Mary Blair’s Alice in Wonderland art.

New Scrim and Scaffolding Installed for Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run Refurbishment

Scaffolding and Scrim Go Up Around Millennium Falcon at Hollywood Studios

The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is getting a little behind-the-scenes attention. Scaffolding and scrim have recently been installed around the Millennium Falcon outside of Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, signaling some ongoing work in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

The scaffolding is positioned behind the Falcon and rises high enough to reach the upper sections of the ship. Portions of the structure are covered with tan scrim, helping to blend the construction into the Batuu environment, though it only covers part of the setup. The back side of the scaffolding remains open, offering a clearer look at the framework supporting the work.

A flat platform near the top of the structure suggests crews may be focusing on areas higher up on the Falcon’s exterior. While Disney has not shared any official details about the project, the scope appears relatively contained, and the attraction itself is expected to remain open during the work.

This update comes as anticipation builds for a new Smugglers Run experience featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to debut on May 22, 2026, alongside the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu film. While it’s unclear if the current work is connected, the timing certainly adds an extra layer of intrigue.

For now, guests can still visit Batuu and pilot the Falcon, even if it’s temporarily sharing the spotlight with a bit of construction.

The shop, located near the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! at Echo Lake, originally closed in March 2020 and never reopened as a dedicated retail location. In the years since, the space has been used intermittently for snack and beverage carts, as well as a limited-time “Den of Destiny” pop-up bar in 2023 themed to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

At this time, the area remains closed with no visible construction or other signs of active work taking place. The building’s exterior appears unchanged, and the space is not currently in use.

While the website designation of “temporarily unavailable” leaves the possibility open for a future return or reimagining, Disney has not made any official announcement regarding plans for the location.

Indiana Jones merchandise is still available elsewhere in the park, including at Keystone Clothiers near the front of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Construction Activity Picks Up Across Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios

If you’ve recently touched down on Batuu, you may notice things look a little… under construction. Multiple areas across Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are currently seeing work, with both the Resistance and the smuggling crowd dealing with a bit of downtime as refurbishment projects quietly move forward.

One of the biggest visual changes is over near Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, where scaffolding has been set up around the iconic ship. The structure wraps around sections of the Falcon, including elevated platforms that suggest crews are working on upper portions of the exterior. While the area remains open and the Falcon is still visible, it definitely looks like Han Solo’s prized ride is in for a little tune-up.

Meanwhile, over by Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the Resistance A-Wing has been completely surrounded by construction walls. These barriers are notably plain and un-themed, which usually points to a shorter refurbishment timeline rather than a major overhaul. The ship is still partially visible from certain angles, but no active work has been spotted just yet.

Beyond these two headline updates, construction and improvements are happening throughout Batuu. In Batuu East, new signage has been added at the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser entrance, and a nearby seating area recently received fans to help guests stay cool. Work is also continuing near Savi’s Workshop, adding to the sense that this is a land-wide refresh rather than isolated projects.

Taken together, it feels like Disney is giving Black Spire Outpost a bit of routine maintenance and polish, making sure everything is in top shape for travelers arriving from across the galaxy. For now, a few ships may be temporarily grounded, but if history tells us anything, they’ll be back up and running faster than the Falcon making the Kessel Run.

Musical Notes Join Recently Added Stars on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Car

The transformation of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is hitting a new note and this time, it’s literally musical. The iconic upside-down limo at the entrance is continuing its glow-up, now featuring bright blue musical notes dancing across the vehicle’s exterior like a visual soundtrack teasing what’s to come.

Just days after stars were added to the refreshed car, these new musical accents bring even more personality to the display. The notes pop in a darker blue against the car’s base color, giving the whole scene a vibrant, jam-session-in-progress kind of energy. It’s clear Disney is leaning all the way into the music theme as the attraction prepares for its Muppets-inspired reimagining.

The update may not be fully complete just yet though. One noticeable detail still missing is the taillight, leaving us wondering if more finishing touches are on the way. And while the giant guitar marquee remains under wraps, we already know it’s set to receive a bold, psychedelic makeover that should pair perfectly with the new vibe.

The pre-show will feature animatronics including Scooter himself, plus appearances from Kermit, Miss Piggy, and even penguin audio engineers. Because of course it does.

From there, it’s a mad dash to make the Electric Mayhem concert on time, with guests boarding tricked-out limos courtesy of Muppet Labs. Expect classic songs, chaotic energy, and a full Muppet-style remix of the ride’s iconic scenes.

When visiting the park this weekend, we saw cranes and other work vehicles in the empty mote around the castle. They weren’t in use but they weren’t hiding from guest’s view. Hopefully the repainting job will be completed soon!
