Universal Filing Reveals Massive New Dark Universe Expansion at Epic Universe

Something monstrous may be brewing in Dark Universe at Epic Universe, and a newly discovered permit filing suggests it could be much larger than many fans expected.

Universal recently filed a new construction permit connected to the Dark Universe land, revealing plans for a structure measuring approximately 71,500 square feet. To put that into perspective, that’s roughly comparable in size to the building that houses Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While Universal has not officially announced what the project will be, the size alone indicates this is far more than a minor addition.

The permit lists Stantec Architecture as the contractor and identifies the project as new construction. Although no attraction details are included, previous concept art for Dark Universe featured a large show building that was never constructed as part of Epic Universe’s initial opening lineup. That unbuilt location appears to line up closely with the area now seeing permit activity, fueling speculation that Universal is finally moving forward with a major expansion for the land.

This isn’t the first clue that something is happening behind the scenes. Earlier this year, permits referencing site work and infrastructure improvements for a future attraction, known internally as Project 680, surfaced before being refiled. Universal executives have also hinted that Epic Universe was designed with room to grow, though they have stopped short of formally announcing any expansion projects.

Whether this turns out to be a dark ride, a thrilling coaster, an immersive walkthrough experience, or even a large-scale live show, one thing is becoming clear: Dark Universe may soon get even bigger.
