Disney Patent Could Give Guests Personalized Warnings Before Scary Ride Moments

Disney may be exploring a new way to help guests avoid the exact ride moments that make them nervous. A recently published patent describes a personalized attraction notification system that could let guests identify specific fears or sensitivities, then receive warnings before those moments happen during a ride.

The patent, published on August 20, 2026, uses what Disney calls “aversions” and “preferences.” Guests could potentially flag things like flashing lights, tight spaces, sudden drops, dark scenes, or other ride elements they want to know about. The system would store those choices in a guest profile, then compare them with attraction data to determine whether a warning should be sent before or during the experience.

That could make the system much more personal than the warning signs and audio messages currently used throughout the parks. Instead of sorting through a long list of every possible ride concern, guests could only be alerted about the things they have specifically chosen. The patent also describes different intensity ratings, meaning a guest could potentially decide whether a mild version of an effect is okay while still receiving a warning for something stronger.

The concept goes beyond simple warnings. Disney also outlines possibilities where guests could be alerted while deciding whether to ride, receive a real-time warning immediately before a specific scene, or, where supported, potentially receive substitute content. The system could even send a request to the attraction to reduce certain effects, such as volume or the intensity of a motion effect. Guests could also flag things they enjoy, like fast drops or sharp turns, allowing the same technology to potentially recommend attractions that match their preferences.

While the patent diagrams show a smartphone-based system with location tracking and guest profiles, Disney has not announced that this would be built into My Disney Experience or any other existing app. Like all patents, this is an idea Disney has protected on paper and not a confirmed future feature. Still, if it ever makes the jump from filing to the parks, it could offer guests a much more personalized way to decide which attractions are right for them.
