Karen Gillan Rumored as ‘Redd’ and Johnny Depp Likely to Return in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6‘. According to the DisInsider, Disney is looking to cast Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji, and Doctor Who star Karen Gillan in the lead role of ‘Redd’ in what is being referred to as a “soft reboot” of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Redd is a revitalized version of the red headed woman that was featured in the old bride auction scene of the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney Parks around the world, who has since been re-imagined to be the Captain of the motley crew that lines the docks of the attractions. Disney has been making a conscious effort to be more inclusive and give audiences more relatable characters to inspire and share fantastic and magical stories of adventure, romance, and more, and it looks like they aim to do the same on the high seas.

The premise of the film leads us to believe Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be a prequel to the original films rather than a sequel and will likely give us a peek at a younger Captain Jack Sparrow. That being said, it is also rumored Johnny Depp will return to reprise his role, but the possibility remains that a younger Jack could be played by another actor and Depp may appear in a smaller capacity. Previously, rumors swirled that Disney may be looking at Zach Efron to fulfill the role of Jack Sparrow for the film, but that remains to be seen

Though Disney has confirmed Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in the works, they have yet to confirm any casting or production details at this time. But, if the rumors be true, well then “drink up me ‘earties, Yo ho!”
