As she celebrates the debut of her new series, “How I Met Your Father” on Hulu, actress Hilary Duff has been making the rounds with press events, with many outlets sharing the same curiosity as fans: “Is there any news regarding the Lizzie McGuire reboot?”

Duff has previously shared that the Lizzie McGuire reboot intended for Disney+ is “not dead, and…not alive”, but despite show creator Terri Minsky and Hilary Duff’s efforts to keep a more honest telling of Lizzie’s story as she navigates her 30’s rather than her teen years, Disney came in mid-production and wanted the series to suddenly be more “kid-friendly”. This move seems arbitrary for many fans since most invested viewers for the series would be in their 20’s-40’s and seems even odder given the mature themes in other content that is already streaming on Disney+, particularly from 20th Century Studios and Marvel.
Regardless of the stalemate between Disney, Duff, and Minsky, Hilary has shared during her press tour for HIMYF that she remains hopeful that at the right time and place the Lizzie McGuire reboot will move forward, but for now, she is focused on protecting her beloved character (Lizzie) and honoring her story. Though the lack of movement for the series is disappointing to many fans, Duff did share the premise of the reboot, telling Cosmopolitan:
“My character [Lizzie McGuire] was moving back home with her parents because she caught her soon-to-be fiancé cheating on her, and she was falling flat on her face at the moment and being like, “I need to pivot because everything that I thought was wasn’t, and I’m turning 30. What the f**k?”
