Hilary Duff Addresses the Fate of the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot. Lizzie McGuire fans were shocked to see an update from series star, Hilary Duff, that shared the Disney+ revival series will not be moving forward.

Hilary Duff and original series creator Terri Minsky fought to keep a more honest telling of Lizzie’s story as she navigates her 30’s rather than her teen years. Portions of the show would touch on more adult topics and conversation and Disney quickly stepped in to say that wasn’t going to happen. Minsky was the first to step away from the project, siting “creative differences” as the reason for her departure, but for months now Duff has gone up to bat for the series and it seems the studio and Duff are at a standstill, leaving the series to gather dust on the shelf.

“I don’t think it’s going to be happening,” Duff shared with Entertainment Weekly’s SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show “Now that I’m my age, I’m like, I love her… This is where it all began for me. And she is me, and I am her, and I brought what I could to that, you know, which was very much just who I am inside. And so to tap into that again, even for a moment was really a great experience.”

Though she may not get to play “Lizzie” again, Hilary Duff and Disney have been able to come to create another project, How I Met Your Father. Disney recently announced a new sequel series to 20th Television’s How I Met Your Mother, named How I Met Your Father, that will star Hilary Duff in the leading role. Duff’s character will play a similar protagonist role to Ted in the original series, with her character explaining to her son how she met their father back in the day.

The HIMYF series synopsis reads: “Set in the near future, the show will follow Sophie (Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father back in the year 2021, when Sophie and her close-knit group of friends were figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”

Currently, 20th Television has ordered 10-episodes for the series, but pending the success of the show, there is a good chance several new seasons will be picked up at a later date. Hulu has yet to share when the series will premiere on the streaming service, so be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Disney+!
