Avengers Assemble… a Bit Later: Marvel Studios Pushes Back ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’
Looks like Earth’s Mightiest Heroes need a little more prep time. Marvel Studios is officially delaying its next two Avengers blockbusters — and while that may sting for now, the result promises to be absolutely worth the wait. According to Deadline, Avengers: Doomsday will now debut on December 18, 2026, instead of its original May 1 release. Following that, Avengers: Secret Wars will shift from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.

Why the delay? Insiders say these movies are massive undertakings — even by Marvel standards — and the added time gives the Russo Brothers (yep, they’re back!) room to deliver on their colossal vision for what might be the biggest crossover saga in cinematic history. Plus, Marvel’s had some serious success in the December window before (we’re looking at you, Spider-Man: No Way Home), so they’re clearly playing the long game here.
A Multiverse-Sized Cast
If you’re wondering whether the extra wait will be worth it — let’s just say, the lineup speaks volumes. The cast of Avengers: Doomsday already reads like a Marvel megafan’s dream:
- Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
- Anthony Mackie (Captain America/Sam Wilson)
- Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes)
- Paul Rudd (Ant-Man)
- Letitia Wright (Shuri)
- Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova)
- Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
- Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
- Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent)
- David Harbour (Red Guardian)
- Winston Duke (M’Baku)
- Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Danny Ramirez, and Hannah John-Kamen are also among the newcomers to the epic.
And just when you thought the multiverse couldn’t get wilder, the X-Men veterans are back in action, including:
- Patrick Stewart (Professor X)
- Ian McKellen (Magneto)
- Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler)
- Rebecca Romijn (Mystique)
- James Marsden (Cyclops)
- Kelsey Grammer (Beast)
- Channing Tatum (reportedly as that long-rumored Gambit)
- Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor)
- Lewis Pullman
- And yes, even Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to return. Talk about assembling a legendary roster.

The Bigger Picture
With Doomsday now filming and Secret Wars still shrouded in mystery, these films are poised to reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe — potentially blending together everything from Loki’s timeline chaos to X-Men legacy lore and multiverse madness. These aren’t just Avengers films — they’re full-blown cinematic events.
So go ahead and mark your calendars (in pencil, just in case). The Marvel multiverse might be expanding slower than we’d hoped, but the destination is looking more spectacular than ever.
