Disney monorail probe now expected to extend into fall

A year-long federal investigation into last summer’s fatal monorail crash at Walt Disney World is now expected to continue for at least several more months.

The National Transportation Safety Board said Monday that it does not expect to conclude its probe in the July 5, 2009, accident, which killed 21-year-old monorail driver Austin Wuennenberg of Kissimmee, until the fall at earliest.


“We’re now in the final stages of the investigation,” NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson said. But he added, “I don’t think we’re going to see anything this summer.”

Knudson said it is possible that the investigation could take until the end of 2010.
