Disney Files Permit for Bay Lake Marina Dock Expansion as Watercraft Upgrades Continue
Disney is continuing to invest in its watercraft operations around Walt Disney World, with a newly filed permit revealing plans to expand the North Service Area Marina on Bay Lake. The backstage marina, located at the northern end of Bay Lake, is used to store and service Disney’s fleet of boats and is not an area guests normally see.

The permit application filed with the South Florida Water Management District covers approximately 0.89 acres and calls for several upgrades to the existing marina. Plans include a 20-foot floating dock extension, a new floating dock with 40-foot fingers, and an increase in total dock space from roughly 3,400 square feet to about 4,800 square feet. Nine existing pilings would be replaced, four would be relocated, and eight new pilings would be added.
Disney also plans to dredge along the outer edge of the marina, removing approximately 718 cubic yards of material to provide the necessary depth for vessels using the new docks. Construction plans call for a floating turbidity barrier to help contain sediment during the work. The permit lists space for six 66-foot cruisers and six 38-foot launches, offering an interesting look at the scale of Disney’s backstage watercraft operation.

The project comes as Disney has several water transportation upgrades underway. A fourth Magic Kingdom ferry boat, the Meg Gilbert Crofton, is currently being built in Florida and is expected to enter service sometime in 2027. Disney is also expanding the guest queue at the Seven Seas Lagoon ferry docks near Magic Kingdom. Taken together, the projects point toward a broader investment in everything from the boats guests ride to the backstage infrastructure keeping them afloat. Disney has not announced a construction timeline for the North Service Area Marina project.
