Chris Evans' Mother "Burst into Tears" When She Saw Him in 'Avengers: Endgame'

Chris Evans’ Mother “Burst into Tears” When She Saw Him in ‘Avengers: Endgame‘. Captain America star, Chris Evans is known for bringing his family along to his movie premieres, but it seems his own mother was caught off-guard when “Old Man Rogers” was revealed towards the end of Avengers: Endgame. Reportedly Chris’ mother immediately burst into tear, both at seeing her son at an old age and at the shocking resemblance Chris had to his late grandfather.

Esquire shared, “When Evans’s mom [Lisa Evans] saw her son in Avengers: Endgame made up to look like an aged Steve Rogers, she burst into tears—he resembled his late granddad exactly.” After the films release and the spoiler ban from the Russo Brothers had been lifted, Chris shared a photo via twitter with the caption: “Halfway there.”

Though prosthetics were a big part in bringing “Old Man Rogers” to life, VFX were used to finish the job of aging Evans for the scene where he hands down his shield to Sam Wilson/The Falcon at the end of the film.

Esquire also shared that Lisa Evans is the reason Chris accepted the role of Captain America. He was offered the role from Marvel Studios with no audition needed and replied “No.” multiple times. So what changed his mind? A heart to heart with his mother is what ultimately led to his decision to accept the role, and I’m sure you are in agreement we are ALL grateful for that conversation.

“His biggest fear was losing his anonymity,” Lisa recalls. “He said, ‘I have a career now where I can do work I really like. I can walk my dog. Nobody bothers me. Nobody wants to talk to me. I can go wherever I want. And the idea of losing that is terrifying to me.’ He would call and ask for my advice,” she says. “I said to him, ‘Look, you want to do acting work for the rest of your life? If you do this part, you will have the opportunity. You’ll never have to worry about paying the rent. If you take the part, you just have to decide, It’s not going to affect my life negatively—it will enable it.’ ”

We all owe a huge thank you to Chris’ mom for that pep talk! It truly doesn’t seem possible that anyone else could have fulfilled the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America the way Chris did and he will truly be missed in future Marvel projects. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Chris’ future and the future of the MCU.
