Cheshire Cat Tails

Like many others, I decided I’d finally try to recreate one of my favorite park treats at home.  The Cheshire Cat Tails can be found at the Cheshire Cafe in the Magic Kingdom near the teacups.  It was a hard recipe to find but not too hard to follow.  It also wasn’t too difficult to find the ingredients.  Will you try to make this chocolate pastry goodness in your house?

First, make sure to obtain the ingredients: 2 pastry sheets (I used Pillsbury crescent sheets), chocolate chips, and 1 egg.  For the frosting, you will need butter, confectioners’ sugar, and milk.

First, preheat the oven according to the pastry instructions on the can.  Then, unroll both pastry sheets and grease a sheet pan large enough for one unrolled pastry.  Place one unrolled pastry sheet on the pan, cover with chocolate chips then cover with the other pastry sheet.  Slice into 6 strips then twists each individual strip by pinching the ends. Whisk one egg and brush over the six twisted cattails.  Then bake according to the package instructions.

While they are baking prepare the frosting.  I started with 2 tablespoons of butter, then slowly mixed in confectioners’ sugar until it formed a ball.  Finally, add a tablespoon of milk until you get the consistency you would like. It helps if the frosting is pretty thin to drizzle on the cattails.  Separate and add food coloring until you have the desired colors for your frosting.

Take the cattails out of the oven, drizzle the frosting and enjoy!

We’d love to see your pictures if an attempt to recreate these at your home!  Tag us if you do.
