This great article is from Kristin Ford at the Daily Disney. She talks about the wonderful meals she had on her recent Disney Cruise. I am counting down the days till our next years Disney Cruise so this article really appeals to me!
A cruise offers a lot of fun activities. And for many, fine dining is reason enough to cast off on the seas.
Meals on a Disney cruise can be as casual or as formal as you choose. There are three large-scale restaurants on the Disney Wonder, and passengers are assigned to each at least once for dinner. Plus, there are numerous buffets, quick-service spots by the pools and 24-hour room service.
We started off in Triton’s, whose theme is a nod to the Little Mermaid story. The elegant dining room is decorated in an Art Deco style with sea colors; a gorgeous mural of Ariel and her father, King Triton, is the centerpiece. For dinner, the adult menu has a French flare, though breakfast and lunch are American dishes. (The children’s menu is basically the same in all three restaurants.) My husband and I liked the food at Triton’s the best.
The second night, we ate in Animator’s Palate. Disney describes the contemporary menu as “Pacific Island foods, Asian cooking techniques, California freshness and other cultural and culinary influences.” While the food wasn’t our favorite, the atmosphere and show were. When you first enter, the restaurant appears to be decorated in black and white with character sketches on the walls. The animation comes to life and changes to bright colors as the meal progresses.
On our final night, we ate at Parrot Cay, which is decorated as a Caribbean island grill house and serves tropical fare for dinner. (Breakfast and lunch are American cuisine.) The experience wasn’t unfamiliar as we had eaten lunch and breakfast in that restaurant during the cruise. The island-inspired show, in which children were invited to join the wait staff in doing the limbo, was fun.
