Stunning Aerial Views of Disney’s Tropical Americas Expansion

The transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. is ongoing and the prehistoric sights are rapidly changing to make way for lush landscapes of Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Walt Disney Imagineering is charging full steam ahead toward a 2027 opening for the new 11-acre land, officially known in-story as Pueblo Esperanza.

While massive green construction walls keep everyday park guests from seeing the magic unfold, legendary theme park aerial photographer @bioreconstruct has shared stunning bird’s-eye views revealing incredible progress. The latest images showcase major vertical milestones, including newly poured architectural archways, heavily graded hillsides, and an ingenious rooftop trick designed to transport guests straight into the mountains of Colombia.

The largest structure currently on the construction site is the fully enclosed show building that will house Disney’s highly anticipated Encanto ride-through dark ride. Inside, guests will board vehicles to explore La Casa Madrigal on the exact day young Antonio receives his magical animal gift.

Large blocks of high-density architectural foam can be seen on the roof of the building. Because standard concrete is incredibly heavy, Imagineers utilize these lightweight, weather-resistant foam blocks as a structural base. Crews will stack and shape these foam pieces before coating them in specialized, thematic concrete to create the rolling background hills of the Colombian rainforest. This clever optical illusion perfectly masks the flat, industrial roof from guests down inside the land, making the environment appear seamlessly deep and immersive.

Down on the ground, the footprint of Pueblo Esperanza is rapidly transitioning from a flat dirt lot into a recognizable village plaza. The most exciting visual updates are the multiple concrete archways now framing the primary pedestrian paths:

  • The Entry Portals: On one side of the main walkway, two vertical concrete columns are now joined by a central archway, currently supported by temporary wooden framing as it cures.
  • The Stripped Forms: On the opposite path, two smaller arches have been completely stripped of their yellow construction molds, standing as permanent gateways into the heart of the village marketplace.

Eventually, these structures will be expertly sculpted and painted to mimic centuries-old, weathered Spanish-colonial stone.

Meanwhile, directly in front of the Encanto building, heavy machinery is actively grading massive slopes of fresh dirt around newly poured concrete foundations. This earth-moving project is designed to build the physical hill on which the Madrigal Casita will sit, matching the original concept art.

On the eastern side of the land, the former DINOSAUR attraction is undergoing a massive architectural facelift. The multi-story steel framework attached to the front of the building remains the highest point on the construction site. This steel skeleton will support the grand, imposing facade of an ancient Maya temple—the setting for the land’s high-thrill Indiana Jones adventure.

Interestingly, Disney is saving considerable time and capital by preserving the park’s largest pre-existing structures. Building permits confirm that the former Restaurantosaurus and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures buildings are being saved and heavily re-skinned.

Restaurantosaurus will transform into a sprawling, open-air, hacienda-style quick-service restaurant. To facilitate this massive remodel, crews have paved a temporary dirt access road straight through the center of the site, allowing heavy cranes and concrete trucks to reach the temple area without damaging the fragile utilities currently being laid underneath the main market plaza.
