Dwayne Johnson Vows “No Real Guns” on Future Productions Due to ‘Rust’ Tragedy. After the fatal on set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the film “Rust” involving a live round shot from a prop gun by Alec Baldwin for the film, many filmmakers and studios are vowing to never use real guns on set again to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.
The Rust incident is unfortunately not the first accidental shooting or fatality in the industry, with many entertainers complaining for decades about the safety implications of using blanks and live rounds when requested while filming for a wide variety of genres. Most have recently cited that advancements in VFX technology have made the practice of using real guns in film and television redundant, if not impractical and unnecessary.
Now, well-known movie gun wielder, producer, director, writer, and actor Dwayne Johnson has joined the cause and has pledged that real guns will no longer be used on productions made by his studio Seven Bucks Productions, telling Good Morning America, “I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can tell you … that any movie that we have moving forward with Seven Bucks Productions — any movie, any television show, or anything we do or produce — we won’t use real guns at all.” Johnson also went on to share that the entertainment industry should”learn from this” tragedy and figure out how to “move forward in a better way.”
