Hilary Duff Shares Update on the Disney+ 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot

Hilary Duff Shares Update on the Disney+ ‘Lizzie McGuire‘ Reboot. Recently, Hilary Duff met virtually with PopSugar to discuss how she is handling the pandemic with her family and to share an update on the Lizzie McGuire reboot for Disney+. Duff has been fairly vocal about the challenges her and show runner Terri Minsky faced when wanting to explore Lizzie’s 30’s. The debate became so great that Minsky is currently separated from the project siting “creative differences” for the reason of her departure, but fans are hopeful that Terri will return once an agreement can be made.

Duff shared with PopSugar that she has been actively in Zoom meetings with Disney to discuss the shows future and to try and work out a deal that is both honoring of Lizzie’s featured place in life and follows the content guidelines that are standard practice for the studio.

“Disney has certain things that have to be met for their brand, and I totally understand that, and they totally understand my needs,” she explained. “So we’re in a really good place of being like, ‘Hey, we pressed pause, and we’re regrouping.’ There’s been a lot of like creative meetings, obviously virtually. I think we’re on the right path, and I want it to happen more than anyone and they obviously feel the same way.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic downtime, Duff has also been reconnecting with her castmates and shared that the entire team is excited to bringing the reboot to life because of the impact it has had on fans. “I think all of us feel really appreciative to be a part of something that was so impactful to others,” she continued. “And there’s a love there that will never go away. So hopefully, we’ll get to all experience whatever that new version looks like.”

Hilary self admitted she is spending most of her reconnecting time with Holly Hobble who played her mother, Jo McGuire, and Jake Thomas who played Lizzie’s “annoying” little brother, Matt McGuire.

Currently, production for the series is paused as Duff and Disney negotiate the future of the series, but one thing is clear, both the cast and Disney are dedicated to seeing the reboot come to fruition and are willing to discuss the “how” aspect of the series.
