Sony and Marvel Studios Push Back 'Spider-Man 3' Release Date Once Again

Sony and Marvel Studios Push Back ‘Spider-Man 3’ Release Date Once Again. The currently untitled Spider-Man 3 was set to begin filming this July and was scheduled for a theatrical release on July 16, 2021. After production delays made that release date impossible for the film, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have decided to push the film back to November 5, 2021, but now the third untitled Spider-Man film is set to premiere on December 17, 2021. That slot was previously held by Avatar 2, which has been pushed back to December 2022 according to Disney.

Previously, Marvel Studios CCO, Kevin Feige shared his excitement for the film stating, “It’ll be fun to see Spidey back in his element, out of the shadow of Tony, out of the shadow of the other Avengers, as his own man now, as his own hero,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in an interview with CB. “And yet now facing his own challenges that aren’t coming from Avengers fighting, like [Captain America: Civil War], or aliens coming, like [Avengers: Infinity War] or [Avengers: Endgame]. It’s all Peter focused and Peter based.”

Before the news broke about delays, the films star, Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), shared that he has read the script for the third stand-alone Spidey film and even refered to it as “insane.” “I’m super happy about it,” Holland shared with Inquirer.Net. “We will be shooting ‘Spider-Man 3‘ in July in Atlanta.” Obviously, that was before cases for the pandemic spiked in the US through the summer and now production will be lucky to begin sometime this fall.

Holland also mentioned he hopes to wrap filming for the untitled Spider-Man 3 film by “February of next year” with production reportedly getting set to resume after the abrupt closure of the studios back in March of 2020 due to the pandemic. Currently, Tom Holland and Zendaya are slotted to reprise their roles as Peter Parker and MJ.
