Disney+ Greenlights All-New ‘Darkwing Duck’ Series Starring Mark Hamill
The terror that flaps in the night is making his triumphant return! Disney+ has greenlit an all-new, action-packed continuation of “Darkwing Duck,” bringing Drake Mallard back to lead a brand-new generation of crime-fighting adventures.
For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been trapped in his ultimate nightmare: an alternate dimension where nobody has ever heard of his superhero exploits! His ego-fueled solitude comes to an abrupt end when a rebellious teenager named Duckie—who knows everything about his heroic past—shows up to pull him back into action.
Together, the unlikely duo will team up to save the universe, battling classic arch-nemeses like Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with beloved fan-favorite allies Launchpad McQuack, Gosalyn Mallard, and Morgana Macawber.
Leading the charge is voice-acting royalty Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series), taking on the cape and cowl as Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck!

The series comes from executive producers Sean Tretta (Star Trek: Picard) and Borja Peña Gorostegui (Lost & Crowned). Joining the producing lineup is Point Grey Pictures, led by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham.
When asked about taking on the iconic Disney Afternoon franchise, the team at Point Grey didn’t hold back:
“Disney said ‘Let’s get dangerous’ and we said ‘hell yeah!'”
Crucially, Tad Stones, creator of the original 1991 Darkwing Duck series, consulted on the development of this new era.
“Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series,” shared Stones. “The new creative team has certainly amped up the action and comedy without forgetting the Disney heart. This series places DW in the literary tradition of Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes… No matter when or where, Darkwing Duck will appear in a cloud of blue smoke to grab the spotlight.”
Produced by Disney Television Animation, the original Emmy® Award-nominated Darkwing Duck ran for 91 episodes between 1991 and 1997 across Disney Channel, ABC, and syndication. The franchise spawned beloved NES and Game Boy video games, iconic comic book runs, and a high-profile guest stint in the recent DuckTales reboot.
Now, decades after his debut, Saint Canard’s greatest hero is ready to sweep back onto our screens. The original 1990s series is available to stream anytime on Disney+.
