The parks at the Disneyland Resort have been temporarily closed in line with direction from government and health officials. We now know that this closure also includes all construction sites at the resort.
Disney has halted construction on Avengers Campus that is scheduled to open in Disney’s California Adventure park in July as well as Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway dark ride that is set to open in Disneyland park sometime in 2022.
Some attractions were already in the midst of renovations when the parks closed earlier this month. Haunted Mansion, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, and King Arthur’s Carousel have all been closed for renovation projects since before the park closure. The Indiana Jones Adventure attraction was also set to undergo a renovation this year.
Disney was also issued building permits from the city of Anaheim valued at $9.4 million, according to city records. Some of these permits were for work on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Tom Sawyer’s Island, Disneyland’s Frontierland entrance, Marvel’s Avengers Campus, the Haunted Mansion and Mickey’s House.
Guests were hoping that with the parks being closed renovations would be completed sooner than planned. That does not seem to be the case now. The closure of the Disneyland Resort could end up lasting longer than the original 18 days since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending an 8-week ban on all public gatherings and events over 50 people.
