It looks like driverless shuttles at Disney World may be delayed. It was announced last year that Disney would start to utilize self driving shuttles in the backstage areas of the parks but an online source is now saying that Disney has decided to hold off because they aren’t confident in the technology at this point.
It was thought that the first tests would happen in Epcot by running cast members around backstage, a job currently done by a human-driven bus! But thanks to some news reports of accidents involving these self driving vehicles, it looks like the cast members at Epcot will have to say hello to a bus driver for a little while longer!
Disney is currently introducing several new means of transportation around the resort, from Minnie Vans to the Disney Skyliner. While the self driving vehicles are, at this point, said to be for the backstage areas only, we wouldn’t be totally shocked to see them added as a means of guest transportation in the future!
