38 DCL Crew Members Test Positive for Coronavirus

Cruise Law News is reporting that 38 crew members from Disney Cruise Line‘s Disney Wonder have tested positive for COVID-19.

Employees from the ship stated that the Disney Wonder’s captain announced over the ship’s intercom yesterday that thirty-eight crew members on board had tested positive. The employees giving this information have asked to remain anonymous.

The Disney Wonder shortened its last cruise from New Orleans and arrived in San Diego on March 19th. At that time, none of the passengers or crew showed any signs of COVID-19 except for one crew member who had the flu. By the end of March, one passenger had been reported as positive for the virus and later it was confirmed that multiple passengers and 2 crew members were positive. A local San Diego newspaper also reported that one crew member had been taken ashore for medical treatment for COVID-19.

The medical director of the San Diego County’s epidemiology department, Dr. Eric McDonald, was quoted as saying a week ago that several of the ship’s crew, who remain aboard, have required medical attention for suspected COVID infections. Crew members on the Disney Wonder say that 5 crew members have now been taken ashore for COVID-19 medical treatment.

Disney Cruise Line has suspended all new departures through April 28, 2020, but has not yet made any changes to the Disney Wonder’s April 29 departure. That cruise is scheduled to leave Vancouver on a Canadian cruise. The Canadian government is not allowing any ships with more than 500 passengers to dock at any Canadian port until July 1st.

Hopefully, Disney Cruise Line will make an announcement soon regarding the Disney Wonder and its Canadian itineraries.
