Will Darth Maul Return to Star Wars in 'The Mandalorian' Season 2?

Will Darth Maul Return to Star Wars in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2? It’s no secret to Star Wars fans that the Star Wars: Episode I villain, Darth Maul, managed to survive his thought to be fatal wounds from his battle against Qui -Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. His survival became canon in the films after he appeared as a hologram in Solo: A Star Wars Story and is now known to be in association with the Crimson Dawn.

Well, eagle eyed fans were quick to notice a rather interestingly timed release of a photo of Ray Park, the actor who portrayed Darth Maul, in full makeup for the character with the caption, “Meet me on Dathomir” that he shared on his Instagram account, @iamraypark, after the premiere of the Season 1 Finale of The Mandalorian.

Another actor who portrayed the character in Star Wars lore, Sam Witwer also shared an interesting tweet post finale premiere, of course referring to the reveal of the darksaber at the end of Episode 8, which is supposed to be in the hands of Darth Maul after the conquest of Mandalore. The darksaber was created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian to become a Jedi, and was a “war trophy” for Maul after the fall of Mandalore during the Clone Wars. The last known wielder of the darksaber before Moff Gideon was Bo-Katan Kryze, as revealed at the end of Star Wars: Rebels.

So how does this all tie into The Mandalorian? The connection to the darksaber is the biggest thread here, and could possibly lead to Maul’s appearance in Season 2. It’s completely possible Moff Gideon and Darth Maul could be working together which is how Gideon could have acquired the formidable weapon.

Another place we may get to see Maul’s return is in the currently Untitled Kenobi Series also coming to Disney+. We know Darth Maul appears in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is supposed to take place around the same time as the Kenobi Series in the Star Wars timeline. The matching of the timeline also makes sense since the fallen Sith would likely seek revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi for literally cutting him in half in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
