This isn’t just any movie night. Before Cliff Secord hits the sky on the big screen, guests will be treated to an exclusive, live panel discussion! Legendary film critic and historian Leonard Maltin will moderate a star-studded Q&A featuring the film’s director, Joe Johnston, and executive producer, Larry Franko. Fans will get a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the 1991 cult classic right inside one of cinema’s most historic venues.

Dubbed “Hollywood’s First Home of Spoken Drama,” the El Capitan Theatre originally made its grand debut as the largest legitimate theatre in Hollywood a century ago on May 3, 1926. Opening night was a star-studded affair, packing the 1,550-seat theatre for the premiere of the fresh-from-Broadway play Charlot’s Revue, starring Jack Buchanan, Gertrude Lawrence, and Beatrice Lillie.

Fast forward to 1989, when The Walt Disney Company joined forces with Pacific Theatres to launch an ambitious, two-year restoration project. Led by renowned theatre designer Joseph J. Musil—under the supervision of the National Park Service and historic conservators—the grand movie palace was meticulously returned to its architectural glory.

When the beautifully restored El Capitan Theatre officially reopened its doors to the public in 1991, the very first feature film to premiere on its screen was none other than Disney’s The Rocketeer. Bringing the movie back for the centennial celebration is the ultimate full-circle moment!

Guests attending the June 1st event will also be the first to experience some incredible new additions to the theatre. A brand-new archival display will debut inside the lobby, showcasing rarely-seen, intricate models of the theatre’s 1989 restoration crafted by Joseph J. Musil himself.

In addition, the theatre is debuting an all-new pre-show curtain spectacle! This wonderful new presentation pays a special nod to the motifs and intricate designs of the El Capitan’s original 1926 curtains, all set to a sweeping new soundtrack that beautifully highlights the theatre’s historic story.

Tickets for this exclusive centennial screening of The Rocketeer are available now through the El Capitan Theatre box office and website. Secure your seats today and get ready to soar back to 1938 Hollywood!
