Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan, faced his most significant defeat— the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

In the first part of this new series, the audience gets a re-cap of the events in Revenge of the Sith, if you don’t need a refresher and have just binge-watched all the Star Wars movies up to this point please feel free to skip. After the recap, we’re introduced to the anti-Jedi setting and the all-out war that has broken out because of the “havoc” Jedi have apparently brought to the galaxy.

In a quick transition, the audience is transported to Tattoine where this episode mainly takes place. For the next 15-20 mins of the episode, there is minimal dialogue and it takes about 10 mins until we’re finally introduced to the main character of our story. This minimal dialogue could be interpreted as a representation of Obi-Wan living an isolated and anonymous lifestyle, which is also shown in the repetition of the activities and jobs Kenobi takes part in on a daily basis.

Besides being introduced to Obi-Wan’s lifestyle, we are introduced to new characters that were seen in the trailer for the series such as Reva played by Moses Ingram, and her evil boss The Inquisitor played by Rupert Friend. Both are on the search to capture any Jedi that is still hiding, and Reva has one particular Jedi on her radar.

There are also some returning characters whose stories are revealed such as Owen Lars, played by Joel Edgerton, who was seen returning in the trailer. But, to find out what other new characters are introduced to bring Obi-Wan’s story to life, you will have to tune in to Part 1 yourselves, no spoilers here.

Overall, Part 1 was just to set up the story and introduce the main protagonists and antagonists, there were no groundbreaking revelations until the very end when we see what will drive Obi-Wan’s story forward when something precious is taken from him. This leads Obi-Wan on an adventure outside of Tattoine and more vulnerable to characters such as Reva, which leads us into Part 2.

The beginning of Part 2 is continuing Obi-Wans adventure that started at the end of Part 1 and leads to a more high-paced and dialogue-heavy beginning, which is a stark contrast to Part 1’s beginning. We are also introduced to a new part of the galaxy that is nightlife heavy and gives the aesthetic of a late-night in-Soho vibe that meets the China Town galaxy vibes. Sorry Obi, but were not in Tattoine anymore.

Part 2 feels almost like one big high-speed action and chase scene, that will definitely change your mind about the series if you weren’t sure after Part 1. Not only is it action-packed but were also introduced to a new character Haja, played by Kumail Nanjiani who adds a lot of comic relief to a, so far, serious plot. Seems like Nanjiani is good for that, remember his character Kingo in The Eternals? Comic relief is his strong suit.

Anyway, I like this mix of comedy and action because it brings heart and character to the story, which I think fans will love. After the high-speed chase and revelations of Part 2, the audience is left in shock when something or someone is revealed, but as I said before no spoilers here.

Overall, I think Obi-Wan Kenobi had a rocky first opening episode but Part 2 definitely leaves the audience wanting more! So where will Obi-Wan go next? Stay tuned here at Chip and Company for all things Obi-Wan Kenobi and everything streaming on Disney +!
