Sony Denies Rumors of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Casting for 'Spider-Man 3'

Sony Denies Rumors of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Casting for ‘Spider-Man 3‘. Rumors ran amuck this week as many fans were led to believe that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire had officially signed on to reprise their respective roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming and still untitled Spider-Man 3 starring Tom Holland. Sony was quick to deny any official casting of the two previous Parkers, but did not elaborate if the pair was still in the plans for Spider-Man 3.

Prior to these rumors, it was believed that Garfield and Maguire may make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange 2 is currently under re-writes and has been pushed back to 2022 for a theatrical release, but it should be noted Marvel has been looking to cast new actors in various roles ranging from Tom Cruise as an alternate dimension Tony Stark/Iron Man to the now confirmed casting of Jamie Foxx returning as Electro, so the possibilities are endless at this point.

Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse Producer Christopher Miller shared that originally he and the team behind Spider-Verse pitched an idea to bring all three live-action Spider-Men together for a special scene at the end of the film but the top brass at Sony felt it was “too soon” to bring the live-action characters together. Potentially, the production team for Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse stumbled upon an actual plan to create  live-action “Spider-Verse” but were not privy to the notorious “Marvel Master Plan” at the time.

Regardless of what Sony and Marvel Studios decide to do with the Spider-Man franchise, we can’t wait to see what our favorite webslinger(s) are up to next! Currently, the untitled Spider-Man 3 is set for theatrical release on December 17, 2021.
