4K Restoration of Animated Masterpiece “Cinderella” Coming to Disney+ on August 25th
Disney+ is set to debut a stunning new restoration of Walt Disney’s 1950 animated classic, “Cinderella,” on August 25 during World Princess Week, as part of its centennial salute to Walt Disney Animation Studios and the ongoing Disney100 celebration.
This all-new restoration of this beloved film represents the first time that the film will be available to stream in 4K, and it is the culmination of a multi-year effort involving the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key players from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The result is a version of the film that is restored to its original grandeur, authentic to the artistic ambitions of the Studio’s creative team, and which looks and sounds better than ever. The restored film had its festival premiere earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it had won a Golden Bear Award 52 years earlier in its international debut.
Commenting on the announcement, Kevin Schaeffer, director of Restoration for Walt Disney Studios, said, ““Working with our restoration team along with internal technical experts, outside vendors (like Mike Underwood at Picture Shop Hollywood) and advisors from Walt Disney Animation Studios, we were able to make this 1950 classic look and sound better than ever. We began the process by pulling the original nitrate negative from the Library of Congress, and scanning the successive exposure color records in 4K. We then did a cleaning pass to remove dirt and as many artifacts as possible. The current available restoration tools allowed us to produce a sharper and higher quality image than previous efforts. To make sure we didn’t lose any of the detail or artistic choices of the filmmakers, we turned to Disney Animation legends and authorities, including Michael Giaimo and Eric Goldberg.”
The input from seasoned Disney artists and animation experts Giaimo and Goldberg proved to be a winning combination. Working with Dorothy McKim (special projects and 2D animation producer for Walt Disney Animation Studios), and Bob Bagley (digital imaging manager for Disney Animation), the team was able to restore and preserve the rich colors, contrast, and accuracy of the original cels and artwork.
Giaimo, production designer on the upcoming 2023 Disney animated feature, “Wish,” as well as the two “Frozen” films and “Pocahontas,” noted, “It was an honor to work on this restoration with Eric, and to really celebrate the original intent and classic Disney aesthetic of those great artists who worked with Walt, notably the great Mary Blair, and to get that right level of depth and saturation.
Goldberg, one of the all-time animation greats and veteran Disney directing animator, director and mentor to new generations of artists, added, “Working with Mike to restore this film was really a labor of love. We both really love the film, and felt strongly that we had to preserve it. Viewers watching this restoration will see more clarity, but they will also see more subtlety. They’ll see differences in color from shot to shot, and discover how one color works with another. Mike and I knew what the film was supposed to look like, and it took a lot just getting back to Cinderella having dusty blonde hair and a silver dress. I’m proud that the Studio felt it was important to get this restoration right, and trusted a handful of us to do that.”
Originally released in 1950, “Cinderella” was hailed for its stylish and experimental look, sophisticated and expressive animation, and delightful storytelling. It was a major hit at the time of its initial release, earned three Oscar® nominations, and rescued the Studio from a dire financial situation brought on the challenges of the war years. The film was directed by Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske and Clyde Geronimi. The voice cast features Ilene Woods, Eleanor Audley, and Verna Felton. The songs are by Mack David, Jerry Livingston and Al Hoffman.
New Tower Construction at Disney’s Polynesian Resort July 2023. Construction on the new Disney Vacation Club tower at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, which is slated to open in 2024, has continued to make great progress over the past few months.
We got over to Seven Seas lagoon to check out the progress and brought back some images.
Above you can see how close the new tower is to the actual Polynesian Resort.
Work has actually begun on the inside. The tower has been capped off and the buildings have been attached.
The new building is really close to the shoreline. It would appear that any pool or outside amenities will be towards the front and sides of the new tower.

According to inside sources, in the event of a strike, the premiere will adapt into a “fan event” instead. Interestingly, this premiere marks the first major world premiere scheduled after the strike deadline.

Disneyland Pass Members will be able to view and use their new Pass directly from the Disneyland® Paris mobile app, as well as discover their benefits and access days.
UNLIMITED ACCESS* TO THE DISNEY® PARKS according to the Pass validity calendar
New Disneyland Pass Members will now have unlimited access to the Disney® Parks on all eligible access days, as indicated in the validity calendar for each Pass type and until the Disney® Parks capacity is reached. To provide a great experience for all of our guests, the existing reservation system* will remain in place.
DISNEYLAND PASS AVAILABILITY
As we look to provide a magical experience for all our guests, there will be a limited quantity of Disneyland Passes available for purchase. It is therefore possible that one or more types of Pass may become unavailable during certain periods of time.
To thank them for their loyalty, upon the launch of this new program, Disneyland Passes will only be available for purchase by current Annual Pass Members:
– If the Annual Pass is set to expire, you can renew a Disneyland Pass online, between one month before and one month after the expiration date. You will then receive a personalized email soon.
– Otherwise, a Disneyland Pass can be purchased by canceling the current Annual Pass at the ticket offices by the entrance to the Walt Disney Studios® Park from 19th July 2023.

Throughout the year, surprises will be arriving for Annual Pass and Disneyland Pass Members, including unique encounters with Disney® Characters and exclusive events.

THE VALIDITY OF CURRENT ANNUAL PASS
Although renewals of the former Annual Pass range have now been suspended, please rest assured that the current Annual Pass will remain valid until its expiration date without any action required on your part. This Annual Pass cannot be digitalized.

Typically, guests wanting to visit Typhoon Lagoon have to take transportation to Disney Springs and then get on a bus to the water park from there. Now, guests will be able to go directly to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon from the following Disney World resorts:

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

This direct bus service will be available through early September. Guests staying at other Disney World resorts will still have to transfer at Disney Springs.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is one of two water parks at Walt Disney World. Disney’s Blizzard Beach is currently closed for refurbishment but Typhoon Lagoon is open for guests to enjoy. Guests can also experience the water park at night with Disney H2O Glow After Hours.

With her beautiful, white coat, the new foal is the second Cinderella pony born at Tri-Circle-D Ranch. And one day, she will help pull Cinderella’s pumpkin coach at Disney World like her big sister Lily, born in 2019, who was featured in the latest season of National Geographic’s “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.”
Less than 24 hours old, this new foal is already in the pasture bonding with mom. Foals typically start leaving their mother’s side and becoming more independent a few weeks after they’re born. Soon, she will meet the two other Shetland pony foals in Disney’s care, Sprout and Finn, who were born earlier this spring.
Newborn foals typically weigh around 35 pounds at birth, and within the first three months this foal will grow to nearly three quarters of her mature size. Fully grown, foals will grow to approximately 450 pounds.
Nearly 100 horses and ponies call Tri-Circle-D Ranch home, and Disney will have a name to share for this sweet, newborn foal in the coming weeks.
