Buried in the depths of Disneys massive San Diego Comic-Con press release today is the news that Beauty and the Beast, a highlight of the studios late-20th century renaissance, will be enhanced with 3D digital effects for a February 12, 2010 theatrical re-release. The timeless story continues to be revisited even today, with the upcoming Beastly offering a con-temporized re-imagining of the unlikely love story. Disneys Beast is notably the only animated work to ever receive a Best Picture Academy Award nomination.
The press release states that Beauty and the Beast will be featured as part of Disneys animation panel, which will feature special guests Hayao Miyazaki and John Lasseter. The duo will join animation vets Lee Unkrich, Kirk Wise, Ron Clements and John Musker in a presentation of upcoming Disney Animation releases, including the soon-to-be-3Dified Toy Story/Toy Story 2,Toy Story 3,The Princess & the Frog and Miyazakis Ponyo. The panel will be moderated by none other than Patton Oswalt.
This years show will also house the first-ever panel featuring 3D footage, from Disneys A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland and the Tron sequel. Its probably too much to hope that well get a glimpse of the 3D-treated Toy Story double-feature, but all told, Disney is gearing up for a smashingly successful SDCC appearance. Tron producers Sean Bailey and Steve Lisberger will be joined by Tim Burton and Robert Zemeckis (in their first appearance at SDCC). So basically, you dont want to miss this one either.
Three Walt Disney World employees have been placed on paid leave as part of the investigation into a monorail crash which killed a 21-year-old train operator over the weekend.
A Disney spokeswoman said Thursday that the paid leave is not disciplinary action but part of the investigative process.
The employees are a monorail shop worker, the operator of one of the trains involved in the collision and a transportation manager.
The accident killed college student Austin Wuennenberg.
It is being investigated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and two federal agencies, including the National Transportation Safety Board.
The NTSB has said no mechanical problems were found with the trains or track.
Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo is being released to US theaters on August 14th! Â This exciting new movie from Disney’s animation studio partner in Japan has a star-studded English dub cast. Â Traditionally I prefer the actual Japanese with subtitles, however, you can’t deny the star power behind the likes of Tina Fey, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Liam Neeson, and many more!

The Farmington man charged with groping girls at Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon water park in Florida is a youth minister at Willowbrook Christian Church in Victor.
Robert Double Jr., 51, of 1129 Suire Lane, was charged last Friday with lewd and lascivious molestation after he allegedly groped girls and pulled off their bikini tops in a wave pool at the Disney attraction, said deputies in Orange County, Fla.
Elders at Willowbrook issued a statement Wednesday saying they “have been made aware†of the allegations “involving a member of the church staff.â€
“Preliminarily, we have learned that this alleged incident did not occur during any church-sponsored trip or event, but apparently while that individual was on a personal family vacation in the state of Florida,†the statement said.
Church leaders declined to say more before they finish reviewing the case.
Orance County deputies wrote in a report about the alleged incident that Double crashed into a 15-year-old girl in the wave pool, pulled her bikini top to the side, fondled her and pulled down the bottom of her swimsuit. The girl told deputies she swam away from him and waited for another wave elsewhere in the pool, only to have him do the same thing a second time.
The girl and her father then notified security, who were told of a similar incident with another girl, the deputies’ report said. A deputy said he then saw — on security cameras — Double do the same to other girls.
Double was removed from the pool and charged. Deputies said he refused to speak with them and asked for an attorney, bringing their questioning to a halt.
Several Disney employees told deputies they saw Double try to grope at least five girls. Deputies said they couldn’t find some of the alleged victims, while the father of one refused to talk to them.
Double was released from Orange County Jail at 1:21 a.m. Tuesday.
