Mice Chat has some excellent photos and coverage of Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Disney’s Halloween Screams Fireworks show. Click the picture above for the jump.

Also for your viewing pleasure I have included some video from All Ears of the Ghost Galaxy show.

A montage of several of the sound and light sequences that run at night on the new Ghost Galaxy attraction that has taken over Space Mountain for Halloween at Disneyland. We talked to one of the Imagineers who designed this and it’s all done with video projection – but it achieves some amazing effects! The band was playing on the Tomorrowland stage so there’s some competition with the sound from Ghost Galaxy in some of these clips and the occasional flicker you see is from shooting my camera in low light (you won’t see it in real life).

The Disney Diamond Make Over

Disney announced plans to bring their classics out of the “Disney vault” and give them the Blu-ray makeover. This new “Diamond Collection” will feature 14 classics, including Beauty and the Beast and Snow White. Personally I have not adopted the Blu-ray transition yet but have seen the stunning quality and sound that comes with Blu-ray. I guess it just isn’t a high enough priority for me yet..Maybe someday when the prices of the players go down…

Here is the list of movies:

FANTASIA
FANTASIA 2000
THE LION KING
BAMBI
CINDERELLA
LADY AND THE TRAMP
THE LITTLE MERMAID
PETER PAN
THE JUNGLE BOOK
101 DALMATIANS
SLEEPING BEAUTY
PINOCCHIO
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
SNOW WHITE

The first movie to be released will be Snow White on October 6th, followed by 2 new releases every year. I expect this number of releases to jump when they see the money making potential..

Construction of Disney’s Hawaii Resort Photos

Construction of Disney's Hawaii Resort Photos

The Walt Disney Co. plans to build a family resort in Hawaii, but it won’t be an island Disneyland. The 21 acres of oceanfront property on the western side of Oahu will house an 800-room hotel complex.

The resort, Disney’s first without a nearby theme park, will emphasize family-centered vacations while respecting Hawaii’s culture, said Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo.

“It will give our guests another way to visit a place that they’ve loved for many years,” Rasulo said. “As the crossroads of Asia, it is your diverse culture that makes this place so special.”

Disney spent $144 million to buy the land at the Ko Olina development, near the existing J.W. Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa.

Disney has several themed resort hotels near Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida, but it has never built a hotel resort that will stand on its own. Hawaii has no full-scale amusement park.

Rasulo said there were no plans to expand the resort into a theme park.

“This decision and project really enhances our state’s reputation as a family destination,” said Gov. Linda Lingle. “That’s what we are, and the Disney name brings that to everyone’s mind, front and center.”

The hotel complex is expected to create 1,000 jobs along the island’s Leeward coast, an area known as much for its homelessness as for its breezy beaches.

“When our families go home, they will know much more about Hawaii,” Rasulo said. “To call it a hotel would be a vast understatement of what we’re trying to achieve.”

Bank On It! The Disney Gallery set to open this Fall in the former Bank of Main Street Building!

Like most, you’ve probably missed visiting The Disney Gallery on your recent trips to Disneyland® park. Well, good news! the hotspot for viewing original and one-of-a-kind Disney artwork and artifacts is ready to re-open in the fall at its new location – in the former Bank of Main Street, right next to the Disneyland® Opera House.

This new location offers roughly the same amount of area as the gallery’s previous home above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction (which is now occupied by the Disneyland® Dream Suite). And, just as before, The Disney Gallery will be made up of three separate rooms – two exhibit rooms and a gift shop. “This will allow us to tell on continuous story, or three separate stories, as we used to in the former gallery,” said Kim Irvine, Walt Disney Imagineering and Art Director for this project. She also told us that the unique qualities of the building have been incorporated into the gallery’s theme: “We’ll maintain the bank look and architecture and visually tell the story that this was an old bank that has been turned into an art gallery. Guests will still see remnants of the old bank influence – like the vault!” So be sure to stop in and visit this longtime favorite attraction and store in its new digs.

The Disney Gallery will open on Friday, October 2, 2009.

Walt Disney Family Museum Sneak Peek in San Francisco
The Walt Disney Family Museum is gearing up to open its doors in early October after several years of meticulous planning and lobbying by several of Disney’s children and grandchildren.

The museum will tell the story of Walt Disney, who raised animation to an art and transformed the film industry, leaving one of the world’s largest entertainment companies as a legacy.
