The official word from the Disney Park Blog talking about the Fantasyland Expansion and the closing of Ariels Grotto:
As we’ve shared here on the blog, work is beginning on the expansion of Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park. And as the transformation begins, there are some updates you should know about.
Beginning April 12, Ariel’s Grotto, Scuttle’s Landing snack location and Pooh’s Playful Spot will be closing. You’ll still be able to find several of your favorite Disney Characters in some other locations and continue to experience other favorite Fantasyland attractions –- in their normal locations. Ariel will continue to be seen in the Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade and SpectroMagic Parade at Magic Kingdom Park as well as at the Voyage of The Little Mermaid attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Ariel will have a new grotto greeting location and ride-through attraction called Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid as part of the Fantasyland expansion scheduled for 2013. We’ll post any new updates on the expansion project on the blog.

This article comes to us from SlashFilm:
You might recall that last August, Pixar fans spotted some concept artwork featuring a boy and his dinosaur, on sculptor Greg Dykstra’s wall in behind the scenes b-roll footage for Up.
We had wrongly assumed that the project was a Pixar short film called “Night And Day” by Teddy Newton, a storyboard artist on The Iron Giant, Character Designer for The Incredibles and Presto, making his Pixar directorial debut. That short film is attached to Toy Story 3., and is not the dinosaur project (you can hear more about the short in my previous video blog or see the first photo here). So what is the Dinosaur project? We finally have our answer, and it is a bit anti-climactic – a Discovery Channel television special called Reign of the Dinosaurs.
Discover Channel announced their 2010-2011 upfront slate today, hich includes a collaboration with Pixar on Reign of the Dinosaurs.
Here is some more information about Pixar’s Reign of the Dinosaurs.
REIGN OF THE DINOSAURS
Avatar meets Jurassic Park as the latest paleontological research meets Hollywood story telling. Discovery Channel teams with the top creative talent from Disney and Pixar to create an unparalleled television event. New creatures abound in a wondrous new world – giant dinos with Freddy Krueger style clawed hands, pygmy T-rex, frogs so big they can eat dinosaurs. Learn the latest in understanding of dinosaur behaviors with exotic mating dances, the inner workings of the T-rex’s nuclear family, dinosaurs drunk on fermenting fruit, dinosaurs in apocalyptic events, the underwater birthing of mosasaurs, and prehistory’s angriest mammals. A daring and provocative new chapter in television, REIGN OF THE DINOSAURS is bound to be the benchmark for all future dinosaur natural history programming.

Billionaire investor Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa Cos, in a partnership with movie producers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, has offered to pay $600 million for Walt Disney Co’s Miramax, a source with knowledge of the situation said on Thursday, joining a small pool of bidders for the art-house studio.
Yucaipa could use its retail interests across the United States to sell DVDs from Miramax’s 700-title library — including hits “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love” — at stores, the source added without elaborating.
The Weinstein Co chiefs Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who are partnered with Yucaipa on the bid, sold Miramax to Disney in 1993. Other bidders for Miramax include Gores Group LLC and Platinum Equity.
The Los Angeles Times first reported the news.
The private equity firm remains nervous about overpaying and is unlikely to raise its offer should competition heat up, said the source, who wished to remain anonymous because the bidding was not public.
Entertainment executives had said Disney was asking for $650 million, deemed too high a price to invite stronger interest. Deadlines for bids had been set initially for March 31, but Disney has had to postpone that at least twice.
The auction for Miramax is occurring at the same time interested buyers circle once-powerful Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. That sale has also faced hurdles and creditors are mulling plans to turn around the famed studio, home to the James Bond franchise, after being disappointed with bids received.
Yucaipa declined to comment.

From Jackie A.: “We are staying at the Carribean Beach resort. As we are limited in luggage weight/space, is there a place within the disney resorts where we can do a load or two of laundry?”
Jackie, thanks for reading the site and for your question. You can do laundry right at your resort. Each of the five villages has its own laundry room. I’ve never used the laundry at CBR, but I’ve used them at other resorts and they’ve always been clean. Bring a small box of detergent from home as the selection at the resorts is very limited. If you’re placing an order with a grocery delivery service like Garden Grocer, you can also order from them.
Have a great trip.

I have been talking to Kristin over at the wonderful and life changing website Couponing to Disney. If you haven’t been curious about the banner over in the Friends of Chip and Co area now is your chance to check it out. She works hard at finding tons and tons of deals, savings, and coupons to help her pay for her Disney trips.
She has asked me and possibly Chris to help her write some articles for her site. She works non stop at finding deals it leaves her with very little time to actually write helpful articles. She is a great writer and I can relate on how busy it can be having a Disney blog. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my friends and writers who help me out here!
I am going to write a series for her named Chip and Co’s Money saving Tips for Walt Disney World. I will share with you how to save money before, during, and after your Disney World Vacation. This weeks topics is one that is very near and dear to my heart.
Saving the environment and staying hydrated.
The article will be up tonight via the link here.
If you goto that link now its going to give you an error till it goes live. Kristin said it should be live tonight at 9:30pm EST. So be sure to send check it out, comment, retweet, and send her some love.

This question is from Russ, who asks “What value or moderate resort has the best pool? Which hotel has the slides and more to do?”
Russ: Thanks for your question and for reading Chip and Co. This is a tough question to answer because it mostly comes down to personal taste.
All resorts in the same price category have similar pools, so there’s very little difference between a pool at one moderate and a pool at another moderate other than theming. Same with the values. All resorts have activities, often something that goes with the theme of the resort. For example, All Star Movies shows movies at night by the pool. One thing that differentiates value from moderate pools is that the moderates have slides and more elaborate theming. All moderates also have hot tubs except for Port Orleans Riverside. The moderates are more grown-up looking, while the décor of the values is super kid-friendly; this doesn’t appeal to everyone. The values all have two pools each whereas the moderates have a central pool and several other “quiet” pools. Since the values are super kid-friendly, the pools can also be louder and busier than most.
Of the moderates, the pool at Coronado Springs is a hands down favorite, consistently rated high among Disney guests. It’s big, beautifully themed, has a huge slide, and fun activites. Some folks prefer the pool at Port Orleans French Quarter because it’s a bit quieter and has a hot tub. There doesn’t seem to be a consensus regarding pools at the values, although some cite the lack of school groups at Pop Century as a plus.
To help you decide which resort is best for you, ask yourself what kind of theming you like? Do you like a resort that feels like you’re in your own little world or do you want to be part of the action? How do you feel about your resort sharing a bus with another resort (as you would with the All Star resorts)? If you stay at a resort like Coronado Springs, you’ll have access to some nightlife and a sit down restaurant, but you’ll also be sharing your resort with(potentially quiet!) convention visitors. At FOFQ or Caribbean Beach, you’ll find more families.
Finally, think about how much time you’ll be spending at the pool. Since I don’t spend a lot of time at the resort, the pool is a secondary consideration. I can say with confidence that there isn’t a pool on Disney property where families can’t have fun, so think about things like access to food, transportation and location when choosing your resort.
Good luck!

This article comes to us from the Disney Park Blog:
Bonjour Disney Parks Bloggers! Today I have great news to share with our fans, especially the foodies. We just announced Remy – a new upscale, adult-only fine dining experience coming to the Disney Dream cruise ship. Think Walt Disney World’s Victoria & Albert’s -– at sea.
Named after the petite French star from the hit film “Ratatouille,” Remy will serve French-inspired, gourmet cuisine paired with impeccable service, a stellar wine list and breathtaking views of the ocean. With a subtle nod to the film, the main dining room is designed in Art Nouveau style. If you look very closely you may even find artful interpretations of the character Remy integrated into the design.
High cuisine on the high seas? That’s the plan at Disney Cruise Line, which announced today that it’s next ship will have an adults-only restaurant overseen by a Michelin two-star chef.
Disney says Chef Arnaud Lallement from l’Assiette Champenoise, a Michelin two-star restaurant just outside Reims, France, and Chef Scott Hunnel from the award-winning Victoria & Albert’s restaurant at Walt Disney World Resort, are collaborating to create the new eatery on the Disney Dream, which debuts in January 2011.
Disney says the restaurant, to be called Remy, will have a French-inspired menu featuring superior products and seasonal ingredients sourced from around the world.

Another great article from the Disney Park Blog:
One thing I quickly learned in the world of Vinylmation is that Vinylmation isn’t just about the fun Mickey Mouse shaped figures. Granted, our Disney Artists (and some of you) may use that blank Mickey Mouse shaped canvas to create some truly memorable masterpieces. Yet, Vinylmation is more about bringing the art of story telling to life in three dimensions.
With the opening of D-Street at Downtown Disney West Side fast approaching, I thought I’d share some concepts of three-dimensional visual displays. They are however presented in 2-D format as we haven’t perfected that 3-D interface yet (uh, calling Muppet Labs!). You may begin to see these displays and others around Disney Parks soon.
For example, the image at the top of the screen featuring numerous Vinylmation 3” figures will be used in a sign at the new Vinylmation mothership location coming to Florida in April. That sign will feature 81 rods with fifteen and half figures per rod. That’s a total of 1,255 Vinylmation figures used! I can’t wait to see the finished version.
