Disney Pin Trading – Most popular pin?

Disney Pin Trading is the buying and trading of collectible pins and related items featuring Disney characters, attractions, icons, and other elements. Many thousands of unique pins have been created over the years. Pins are available for a limited time; the base price for a pin is US$6.95. Limited edition pins, and special pins (e.g. pins that have a dangle, pin-on-pin, flocking, lenticular, light-up, moving element, 3-D element, etc.) cost up to $14.95.Featured Artist and Jumbo Pins cost between $20 and $35 and Super Jumbo pins cost upwards of, and sometimes beyond, $75.

Each guest may purchase up to two pins of each style per day. Pins are frequently released at special events, movie premiers, pin trading events or to commemorate the opening day of a new attraction. Some pins have appreciated well on the secondary market and have reached prices of over US$500 at venues such as eBay. Most Disney pins are enamel or enamel cloisonné with a metal base.

Ok so I got the wiki definition out of the way. There are hundreds of websites devoted to pin trading, and thousand of ebay auctions hosting the many different pins. My family and I have been pin trading for years. I look at it as a inexpensive memento you can take home with you to remind you of your recent trip. Other people collect them, trade them, even make a living off of buying and selling them..See ebay..

There are many different reasons people love collecting these adorable pins. But one question I have always wondered was what Pin is the most popular pin? Well the people over at the Disney Parks Blog was daring enough to take on that question. Click on the picture above for the answer.

Disney’s Where The Wild Things Are – Directed by John Lasseter

1983 animation test by Disney, directed by John Lasseter (who went on to direct and produce most of the Pixar films, including Toy Story). Back then Disney owned the film rights to the Where The Wild Things Are books… they didn’t use them, though, so they lost them. Check out this amazing test, which combined traditional hand-drawn, 2D animation with then-state-of-the-art 3D computer animation!

Yummy Halloween Treats in Disney World

As Halloween approaches and we begin to decorate the house and horde candy for all the trick or treaters.. I wonder what if any food items are available at Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween party. I have seen the videos and pictures of the decorations in the park itself, I have also read the articles on Trick or Treating, but does Disney do anything else special for the Halloween Holiday?

To answer that question I had to visit one of my favorite Disney websites. The Disney Food Blog! My mouth just waters everytime I am reading the articles on AJ’s blog.. It just so happens that right on the front page there is an article about all the Halloween treats available at Disney World for this spooky holiday.

Monorail Shutdown on Epcot line – Sunday 10-18-09

A computer glitch on Walt Disney World’s monorail system forced the resort to shut down the Epcot line yesterday—and opens up the possibility that July 5’s fatal crash may not have been entirely human error.

Disney World operates three separate monorail lines (Magic Kingdom Resort line running from the Ticket & Transportation Center to the park and three hotels; Express, which stops only at the TTC and Magic Kingdom, and Epcot, which runs between the TTC and Epcot. Since the Epcot line does not connect to the barn, when adding or subtracting trains, vehicles travel to or from the Express line via a spur track near the TTC. Shop activates Switch 8 (connecting Express to the spur) and Switch 9 (connecting the other end of the spur to the Epcot line), and power begins to course along the spur.

Baby Giraffes Born At Disney’s Animal Kingdom

There’s a mini-baby-boom in the giraffe population at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. On Oct. 12, Bolo was born to second-time mother Big Girl (both in photo above). A week earlier, Bruehler was born to third-time mother Aibuni.

The newborns are both male and already stand at about 6 feet tall. They could grow up to be between 15 and 18 feet high. The new twosome began nursing right away, Disney officials say, and they are already very feisty. They are the 13th and 14th giraffes born at Animal Kingdom since it opened in 1998.

The theme-park-going public can’t spy Bolo and Bruehler just yet, but they should be out and about “in the coming weeks,” a Disney spokesperson says.

“The next important milestone is for the calves to continue the bonding process with their mothers who will teach them important lessons and guide them as they are introduced to the herd in the coming weeks,” says Matt Hohne, animal operations director at Disney’s  Animal Kingdom.

Disney World spreads the wealth with its campaign cash

Walt Disney World isn’t taking many chances when it comes to the 2010 elections.

The giant resort was generous to both the Republican Party of Florida and the Florida Democratic Party during the third quarter of the year, new state records show.

Disney gave the Republicans more money in direct contributions: $90,000 vs. $50,000 for the Democrats. But the Democratic Party got more freebies from the resort: $121,161.60 worth of rooms, food and tickets compared with $47,670.60 for the state GOP. (The vast majority of the freebies to the Democrats — $110,000 – went toward the party’s three-day convention earlier this month at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club.)

The bipartisan check-writing shouldn’t come as a surprise. Florida has wide-open race for governor in 2010, with neither party’s likely nominee – Republican Attorney General Bill McCollum and Democratic Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink – a clear frontrunner.
