2010 Star Wars Weekends - Funny Advertising Photos

Star Wars Weekends is an annual special event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park that celebrates the epic space-fantasy Star Wars Saga and the new animated television series The Clone Wars. Join Jedi Masters, Sith Lords and Star Wars celebrities for special shows, presentations and memorabilia.

Fans of the Star Wars universe don’t have to travel to “a galaxy far, far away” to come face to face with droids, alien creatures and many of their favorite Star Wars characters.

Younglings can hone their lightsaber skills and prepare to do battle with Darth Vader himself at the Jedi Training Academy. Prove yourself the master of trivia in contests with prize giveaways. Board a runaway Starspeeder on the Star Tours attraction, or stare in awe as visitors from Naboo, Endor and every planet between pass by in a motorcade.

In addition to all of the entertainment, there are plenty of conversations, autograph sessions and motorcades with the celebrities and creators of the Star Wars galaxy.

Here are some funny advertisements featuring some of the Star Wars Characters doing some interesting things.

First Look: Cars Land Welcomes the First Test Vehicle for Radiator Springs Racers

If you’re in Disney’s California Adventure park this week, you just may hear the sound of engines revving. It’s very exciting because you’re actually hearing the first early ride system tests for Radiator Springs Racers, the new E-ticket attraction coming to the all-new Cars Land, which opens in 2012.

This Radiator Springs Racers test vehicle arrived this morning, and while you’re not likely to get a good view of the car on a visit to the Park, we’re sharing some fun behind-the-scenes photos we took earlier today.

Disney VoluntEARS Build Playground Children Helped Dream Up

If you’re building a “dream playground” then who better to go to for design advice than the experts – the children who’ll be using it. Drawings from the imaginations of kids in the community were incorporated into the newest Disney VoluntEARS-built playground at the Walt Disney World Clubhouse of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. The play area was constructed in hours by more than 250 volunteers but here’s a look at the effort condensed into seconds:

Good Eats – Boma–Flavors of Africa, Walt Disney World

Good Eats - Boma–Flavors of Africa, Walt Disney World

Boma – Flavors of Africa – is a family-friendly buffet-style restaurant serving breakfast and dinner in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Upon walking in the restaurant it has an open market type feel. You can smell the wood burning stoves and rotisserie  chicken cooking.

The dining room is huge and the buffet covers the whole left side. They serve food from more than 50 African countries and the flavors remind me of a fusion of Asian and Indian.

It is all you can eat and trust me you will leave here very full. All the food is so fresh and delicious. There is literally something for everybody, even if you don’t care for ethnic foods.

Be sure to grab your Advance Dining Reservation as this place fills up fast!

Ask a Disney Question: What Happened to Sleepy Hollow’s Kettle Corn?

Ask a Disney Question: What Happened to Sleepy Hollow's Kettle Corn?

This question comes from Angie, who asks:  “Why did sleepy hollow stop selling kettle corn?  The buckets of it that can be bought in Hollywood studios absolutely doesn’t compare. I took mine back.  It was disgusting!”

Angie, thanks for reading the blog and for your question. Whenever I can’t find an answer to a question, I call Disney. Usually, I end up with a satisfactory answer that makes me happy. Not this time.  The cast members I spoke to were very helpful, but no one seemed to know exactly why the kettle corn is no longer sold at Sleepy Hollow.  When an item disappears from a menu, it’s usually due to one (or more) of the following reasons:   1) it’s a supplier issue;  2)   it wasn’t popular;  3)  it wasn’t cost-effective; or 4)  people’s tastes changed.  Obviously, that explains what happened to the infamous deep-fried bacon wrapped Twinkies (okay, I made that one up) but not ever-so-popular Figaro Fries, the loss of which as been mourned on this very website.

One cast member did hint that I might find the kettle corn back in the fall, but no one could give me any solid  indication that it would be returning or not.  I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer for you.  If we hear anything, we’ll send you an email and let you know.

Have a Disney question?  We have answers!  Write us at Chip and Co. We answer every question.

World Cup Fever Coming to Disney World

If you can’t make the trip to South Africa next month for the World Cup soccer event, don’t worry about it. Disney is bringing the World Cup to you.

In fact, it’s already here – sort of. Fans, athletes and coaches at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort this week likely got a sneak peek at the cool new virtual on-air application that ESPN will use during its telecast of the World Cup. The global sports network is utilizing its Virtual Playbook application, which integrates video game style graphics with its real-life commentators to illustrate various aspects of the World Cup action. Shooting using the Virtual Playbook has been taking place this week at the complex, which is ESPN’s hub for development of a variety of innovative new on-air applications and its new 3D TV channel.

Then, next month, Walt Disney World Resort becomes one of only a few official World Cup viewing locations. Fans can catch live World Cup action on ESPN at ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill from the opening game June 11 as well as attend special viewing parties from the Round of 16 matches until the title match (June 26-July 10). The parties feature guaranteed seating and an all-you-care-to-eat buffet that includes Buffalo wings, hot dogs, fruit, salads, a nacho bar, desserts and non-alcoholic drinks – all for $19.99 per person, per game (plus tax). There will also be a special viewing area for the championship match July 11.

Reservations can be made starting May 27 by calling (407) WDW-DINE or going to espnwwos.com.

Of course, if you are one of the lucky fans who will get to go to South Africa for the World Cup, be sure to bring back plenty of souvenirs for the rest of us!
