Good Eats - Sleepy Hollow Refreshments

Sleepy Hollow Refreshments at the far corner of Liberty Square, just over the water from Cinderella’s Castle and next to the Hall of Presidents. This is a place you have walked by a million of times but like most people never have stopped to check out the goodies they are offering.

Not a huge menu by no means but still a great place to grab a snack like Funnel Cake, Ice Cream Sandwich or Root Beer Float.

One of the best features is the seating area you have a perfect view of the castle or the Parade as it goes by. I would suggest getting there early as the best seats will fill up quickly.

Sleepy Hollow is just a really good place for a snack and to take a load off.

Great Moments in Movie History – Featuring Minnie Mouse, R2-MK

Great video comes to us from the Disney Park Blog:

Last week, we shared a first look at R2-MK before you’ll be able to see for yourself at this year’s Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Today, the new droid is in action. Similar to our “forced perspective” project, we’re having a little fun. Here’s “Great Moments in Movie History” – as reenacted by Minnie Mouse and introducing R2-MK.

Introducting Disney's Reboot Ralph the Movie

Coming March 22nd 2013 from Walt Disney Animation Studios Reboot Ralph (previously known as Joe Jump) will be a 3D romp through the world of video games. Reboot Ralph is rumored to be the story of an 8-bit arcade game character who is resigned to the retro gaming recycle bin until he finds a way to jump into modern day games.

Reboot Ralph has been on Disney’s plate for a while, but sounds like a great idea for a movie.

Marvel and Disney look for heroic repeat of ‘Iron Man’ franchise

Marvel and Disney look for heroic repeat of 'Iron Man' franchise

Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Bob Iger got right to the point in a conference call last week to discuss the company’s financial performance with Wall Street analysts.

“Let me start off by saying how thrilled we are with the global success of ‘Iron Man 2,'” he said. “It makes me even more enthusiastic about the great things that Marvel and Disney can do together.”

“Iron Man 2” was put into production before the Burbank entertainment giant acquired the comic book publisher turned movie-maker in December for $4 billion. But it nonetheless epitomizes Iger’s strategy for Disney: build “brands” on the big screen that can earn more profits through sequels as well as spin-offs including toys, television shows, digital media and theme park attractions.

The big question surrounding Marvel since the acquisition has been how much value its library brings to mainstream audiences that have never heard of Namor the Sub-Mariner, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man.

Before the release of the first “Iron Man” in 2008, few people outside those who frequent comic book stores had heard of billionaire Tony Stark and his red and gold super suit. Now he has generated more than $1 billion in worldwide box office and is Marvel’s bestselling consumer products property, exceeding even Spider-Man.

The web slinger, along with other high-profile superheroes such as the Fantastic Four and X-Men, are tied up in long-term licensing deals with other movie studios.

Now Disney is hoping that Iron Man provides Marvel a model for turning subprime superheroes from its 5,000-plus character library into investment-grade franchises.

Thinking About a Disney World Christmas? Why You Need to Start Planning Now.

Thinking About a Disney World Christmas? Why You Need to Start Planning Now.We’re going to be talking Christmas today. I know it seems crazy when it’s not even Memorial Day, but since I am in the middle of planning our family’s Disney trip over New Years, Christmas vacation plans are on my mind. We have gone at this time of year several times now, and while it is not for the faint of heart, it is also fun, memorable, and well…magical. At least it can be, if you are prepared for what to expect. I thought I would take today’s post to share some things that you should know if you are thinking of going to Disney World during the Christmas holidays.

If possible, you should be getting your plans in place now. It is always best to plan a Disney vacation at least 4-6 months out, especially if you want to try to do it as affordably as possible. If you want to visit during Christmas week, it is even more important for a couple of reasons.

Disney World is Busy at Christmas…Very Busy

For starters, this is the single busiest week of the year at Disney World. Disney will not be offering any packages, room discounts, or Free Dining. If you want to go then, it will cost you more due to increased costs for airfare as well. So if you want to try to save money at Disney World as much as possible, you will need to do a good bit of research, and book early. It takes time, but it can be done!

Call Early for Those ADRs

Will you be eating at any table service restaurants during this week? While there are always some dining options that will fill up at 180 days out now matter what time of year, during this week, just about everything will be full, well before you arrive at Disney…especially for the major holidays of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve. So if it matters to you where you eat and what time, then you must be mindful of that 180 day booking window for Advanced Dining Reservations, and be ready to reserve the first day you can. (Keep in mind, if you are staying at a Disney resort, you can make ADRs at 180 days plus 10….so try to book all of your table service meals for your entire trip the day you call for your first one.) And as a point of reference the 180 day mark for booking Christmas Day ADRs is June 28.

Keeping it Affordable

Keeping in mind that you won’t get any savings “gifts” from Disney for this week, what is the best way then, to visit and save money? I think the major one that will help the most is where you stay. Consider Disney value resorts, off-site hotels, and even vacation homes or condos. During these very busy seasons, you may very well find these your most affordable options. Be sure to weigh any associated costs though, such as transportation from the airport if not driving, and/or a rental car, and make sure it is truly the most affordable option for you.

Making it Fun

What else is important for you to know now if you are planning a Disney World visit during Christmas week?

Honestly, the most important thing is, have realistic expectations, and make sure you will be happy visiting Disney World during this time. You are not going to see or do many/most of the rides and attractions you want to do. The crowds are unbelievable. The parks will close to new guests periodically. Fastpasses will be gone for major attractions before noon. You will stand in line for everything. You need to be ok with this.

I don’t mean to make it sound horrible, because it’s not, at least not to us. But we have the benefit of having visited Disney World for well over a dozen times and will have many more visits in the future. So we don’t get stressed out by missing out on some rides. We know we’re going to be elbow to elbow with people on this trip, and it’s ok. I guess, as the expression goes: “It’s all part of the experience!”

There is a fantastic energy and holiday enthusiasm during this week that is pretty amazing, and keeps us going back again and again. In fact, we are deliberately choosing to go over New Years this year, rather than pushing the trip back a week, so that we can experience all the fun. For us, the holiday magic at Disney World is worth all of the craziness and crowds.

So if you want a Disney vacation during the Christmas holidays then get started planning! You’ve got some work to do. It will be worth it though, as long as you are prepared. Let me know if you have any questions!

Adam Hicks and Daniel Curtis Lee to perform "In the Summertime" on Disney XD

DISNEY XD’S SUMMER ANTHEM, “IN THE SUMMERTIME,” PERFORMED BY ADAM HICKS & DANIEL CURTIS LEE, TO PREMIERE SATURDAY, MAY 29

A jammin’ hip hop spin on a classic song, “In the Summertime,” with rap lyrics, performed by teen actors Adam Hicks and Daniel Curtis Lee (of the hit comedy series “Zeke and Luther”), will debut as Disney XD’s summer anthem on SATURDAY, MAY 29 (8:00 a.m., ET/PT). The music video for the song, a cover of the instantly recognizable classic released in 1970 by British pop-blues band Mungo Jerry, will rotate throughout the Disney XD summer schedule.

Hicks and Lee’s remake of “In the Summertime” will have its Planet Premiere on Radio Disney FRIDAY, MAY 28. The music video will also be available on DisneyXD.com and the Disney XD YouTube channel on Saturday.

Featured in the music video are Disney XD stars Hutch Dano (“Zeke and Luther”), Dylan and Cole Sprouse (“The Suite Life On Deck”), Mitchel Musso (“Phineas and Ferb” and “Pair of Kings”), Doc Shaw (“Pair of Kings”), Ryan Newman (“Zeke and Luther”), Logan Miller (“I’m In The Band”), Caitlyn Taylor Love (“I’m In The Band”) and David Lambert (“Aaron Stone”).

“In The Summertime” was written by Raymond Edward Dorset, founder of Mungo Jerry. The music video was directed by James Larese of Syndrome, whose credits include music videos for Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart” and Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok.”

The music video leads into a three-day holiday weekend marathon of the hit Disney XD series “Zeke and Luther,” “Kick Buttowski-Suburban Daredevil,” “I’m in the Band” and “Phineas Ferb.”
