Disney ride opens early with new theme

Disney ride opens early with new theme

This article comes to us from the OC Register:

Visitors are getting an early chance to ride a revamped swing attraction with a Mickey Mouse theme at Disney’s California Adventure.

The Silly Symphony Swings had a “soft opening” on Friday — two weeks before the official grand opening of the re-themed ride. A guest relations official said he was unsure if the ride would be open again Saturday.

Disney redid the swing ride as part of the $1 billion expansion and makeover of California Adventure.

The previous attraction, the Orange Stinger, also featured swings, but they were enclosed in a large, orange spiral casing. See a previous story about the Orange Stinger.

The new ride allows visitors to swing in the open air with a Mickey Mouse on top. The theme is based on the the first color Mickey Mouse cartoon, “The Band Concert,” from 1935.

On Friday, LaughingPlace.com posted a photo of Silly Symphony Swings and Twitter users wrote about the experience.

Silly Symphony Swings officially opens June 11 — the same day as the formal summer season begins and the World of Color light-and-water show debut.

The ride isn’t the only Disneyland Resort feature to return early for the summer: The Fantasmic! show and summer fireworks, called Magical, also came back Friday.

Ask a Disney Question: Does the Swan Resort participate in the dining plan?

Ask a Disney Question: Does the Swan Resort participate in the dining plan?

This question comes from Jeanie P., who asks “If you stay at the Swan can you purchase a meal plan?”

Jeanie, thanks for your question and for reading Chip and Co. Unfortunately, neither the Swan nor its sister resort the Dolphin participate in the Disney dining plan because it isn’t a Disney-run hotel.  In addition, Swan and Dolphin guests are not able to make room charges outside of their respective hotels or use Magical Express.  One benefit that you’ll likely be most happy to hear about is that both the Swan and Dolphin participate in Extra Magic Hours. Guests may also use package delivery from the parks (or Downtown Disney) back to their resort and park for free at Disney theme parks, however there is a fee for parking at the resort itself.

The Swan and Dolphin are run by Westin, one of the better hotel groups out there, so you can have confidence in your choice.  If you’d like to read more about the Swan and see photographs of the rooms and resort, check out the AllEars page here.

Hope that helps!

New Toy Story 3 Great Escape Featurette

The creators of the beloved Toy Story films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of our favorite gang of toy characters in TOY STORY 3. As Andy prepares to depart for college, Buzz, Woody and the rest of his loyal toys are troubled about their uncertain future.

Directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo), TOY STORY 3 is a comical new adventure in Disney Digital 3D™ that lands the toys in a room full untamed tots who cant wait to get their sticky little fingers on these new toys. Its pandemonium as they try to stay together, ensuring no toy gets left behind. Meanwhile, Barbie comes face to plastic face with Ken (yes, that Ken).

Summer Nightatstic! : Rock ‘n Glow Dance Party

Some interesting news from Kristin Ford at The Daily Disney:

Disney World’s Summer Nightastic! — special programming for June 6 to Aug. 14 — will include Rock ‘n Glow dance parties five nights a week at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney cover band Mulch, Sweat and Shears will alternate with a DJ for the three-hour parties on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sundays. Hours can vary, but most nights are likely to be 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on a stage in front of Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat on Hollywood Boulevard.

Mulch, Sweat and Shears offers “not just music, it’s a show,” said Chris Oyen, the Walt Disney World Entertainment director for the Rock ‘n Glow Dance Party. As such, there will be a sketch where guests will see some small pyrotechnics when the band decides that all great rock bands need pyro.

Mulch, Sweat and Shears consists of CC Dixon (bass, vocals); Angelo Jannotti (guitar, vocals); Jameson Boyce (keyboards, guitar, vocals); Matt Bloodwell (drums, vocals); Paul Secord (vocals); and Jim Doyle (vocals).

Oyen said the Rock ‘n Glow dance parties are designed to involve the audience, and popular Disney characters will get their groove on as well.

A quick announcement to share…the newest “American Idol” Lee DeWyze is coming to Walt Disney World next week to be part of a special parade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You’ll be able to see Lee and Mickey Mouse on Hollywood Boulevard on Monday, May 31. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m at the entrance of the theme park and will then head toward Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat.
