St. Petersburg boy 'soley responsible' for fatal Disney accident

A St. Petersburg boy who died after colliding with a Walt Disney World bus last April was “solely responsbile” for the crash, according to a final Florida Highway report released today.

Investigators concluded 9-year-old Chase Brubaker’s bicycle had a flat rear tire and an underinflated front tire, both of which could have contributed to the April 1 crash.

Brubaker was biking in the same direction of the bus as he road along a path near the Fort Wildness Resort.  Investigators said he drove into the southbound lane, striking the side of the bus. After the initial collison, he fell off his bike and was run over by the bus’s rear right tire.

FHP says bus driver David Rich was not at fault, and no charges will be filed.

Brubaker was riding with an 11-year-old girl at the time. She was not injured. Both were wearing helmets.

FHP says its investigation is complete.

Coming to the Disney Channel Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure

Production has begun on “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure,” a Disney Channel Original Movie directed by Emmy Award-winning director Michael Lembeck (“Tooth Fairy,” “Santa Clause 2” and “Santa Clause 3.”). Ashley Tisdale stars as the scene-stealing drama queen Sharpay Evans in the role she made so popular in the “High School Musical” TV movies and feature film. “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” is scheduled to premiere in 2011 on Disney Channel.

In addition to Tisdale, the movie stars Austin Butler (“Life Unexpected” and “Ruby and the Rockits”) as confident film student Peyton Leverett and Bradley Steven Perry (“Good Luck Charlie”) as a precocious young dog owner and Sharpay’s nemesis, Roger Elliston the 3rd

Rounding out the cast is Cameron Goodman (“Phineas and Ferb”) as a Broadway star with Sharpay on her radar, Alec Mapa (“Ugly Betty”) as Broadway show director Gill Samms, and Jack Plotnick (“The Mentalist”) as the upbeat and enthusiastic scribe, Neal Roberts.

“Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” will feature four original songs by songwriters Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn (“I’m Gonna Shine”), Matthew Tishler and Amy Powers (“My Boy and Me” and “The Rest of My Life”), David Lawrence and Faye Greenberg (“New York’s Best Kept Secret”).

In the movie, a New York casting director spots aspiring thespian Sharpay Evans performing with her dog, Boi, at a charity gala and offers to arrange an audition for a new Broadway musical. Sharpay packs her bags with Boi in tow and heads to the Big Apple to fulfill her destiny on Broadway. Her father has given her one month to make it to center stage, or else she will have to return home and learn the family business. However Sharpay’s dreams are turned upside down when she discovers the Broadway role is really for Boi, not her. Pushing her disappointment aside, Sharpay sets out to make Boi the most fabulous canine to hit the Great White Way.

The Emmy Award-winning “High School Musical” has reached more than 290 million viewers, in 24 languages. Its soundtrack was the #1 album of 2006 and the DVD was the year’s #1 TV movie on DVD. Its sequel, “High School Musical 2,” ranked as the #1 basic cable telecast of all time (18.6 million viewers) and has been seen by nearly 300 million Total Viewers in over 27 languages. The “High School Musical 2” soundtrack is triple Platinum and its DVD release was the top-selling TV property on DVD for 2007. Walt Disney Pictures debuted “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” in 2008. It grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office.

Tisdale will also serve as executive producer of the movie, along with Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden (both of the “High School Musical” movies). “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” was written by Robert Horn (writer of Broadway’s “13” and writer/producer of “Designing Women”).

Disney Channel is a 24-hour kid-driven, family inclusive television network that taps into the world of kids and families through original series and movies. Pixar’s Toy Story 3 & Toys for Tots Team up for summer Toy Drive

Pixar's Toy Story 3 & Toys for Tots Team up for summer Toy Drive

Woody and Buzz are back and they are asking for your help. Toys for Tots, in collaboration with the release of “Toy Story 3,” is kicking off an unprecedented summer toy drive. Throughout the month of June in 24 cities throughout the United States, the public will be asked to honor their cherished memories of childhood play by donating a new unwrapped toy during “Toy Story 3” promotional events. The mission is to surpass the 16.3 million toys, books and other gifts raised in 2009 that fulfilled the holiday dreams of 7.4 million children in more than 690 communities nationwide.

“We are thrilled to be working with Disney Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 3’ on this special summer toy raising event,” said Bill Grein, vice president, marketing and development for The Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. “We are so proud of the fact that the gifts raised in each of the 24 cities will remain in those specific cities and will eventually be distributed to less fortunate children in those communities. It is truly a program where anyone who donates a toy is really donating a smile to a child in their own hometown.”

•    Participating cities include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis and Washington, DC.
•    Look for the Official Toys for Tots “Toy Story 3” donation boxes displayed at each event.
•    Any new and unwrapped toy, book or gift will gratefully be accepted.
•    We encourage donations for children of all ages, but please especially consider pre-teen and teenagers.

For details regarding a Toys for Tots “Toy Story 3” event in a city near you, please log on to www.toysfortots.org. “Toy Story 3” opens in theaters everywhere June 18, 2010.

Detectives investigate death near Walt Disney World Resort

Article comes to us from the Orlando Sentinel:

Homicide detectives are investigating a death at Walt Disney World.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said detectives were called to 2305 Hotel Plaza Blvd., the address of the Doubletree Guest Suites in the Disney resort. But the death did not appear to involve the hotel, which is on property owned by Disney, but is not Disney-operated.

Little information was available Sunday night. It was not clear whether the circumstances were considered suspicious. The Sheriff’s Office said it would provide additional information as it becomes available.

The California Grill – A Signature Disney Dining Experience

The California Grill – A Signature Disney Dining Experience

Perched atop the A-frame of the Contemporary Resort just outside the Magic Kingdom, the California Grill is truly a restaurant like no other. It happens to be a personal favorite of mine thanks to its eclectic menu, innovative chefs and spectacular views.

As you arrive at the Contemporary Resort and make your way up to the 2nd floor, you are warmly greeted by the hostess. Hopefully you’ve made your Advance Dining Reservations, as it can become a challenge to secure a spot at the California Grill, especially during ‘peak’ times of year, and even peak hours…but more on that in a bit. Once checked in, you are taken via private elevator to the 14th floor and the main dining room high above the Magic Kingdom and Bay Lake.

After taking in the views from the large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the landscape, as well as the ‘contemporary’ look of your environment (not to mention the bustling open kitchen with chefs and kitchen staff preparing the delicious meals), you are escorted to your table and can begin to look over the menu and extensive wine list. An array of wines from across the globe is offered, though many California wineries are highlighted for obvious reasons.

The menu features many varieties of fare and does change weekly thanks to the Grill using many different types of foods based on season. A signature menu item that certainly gets your meal off on the right foot is the delicious flatbreads, which I highly recommend. A variety of sushi offerings also begins the menu. First and main courses vary, but expect an innovative mix of American-infused combinations as well as a twist on your traditional soups and salads, chicken, fish and beef.

Desserts (my favorite part) are consistent with what you would see from any of the more feature dining offerings in Walt Disney World, but the presentation of these dishes is extraordinary! Expect a variety of cakes, coffee drinks, and other sweets. A number of dessert wines and spirits are also available as you unwind from your dining experience.

One of the best parts about dining at the California Grill, being that you are seemingly soaring over the Magic Kingdom, is the view. By evening, however, that view is ‘plussed’, as Walt Disney would term it, as the Wishes nighttime spectacular lights up the evening sky…and you have a front row seat! Don’t be alarmed if you don’t happen to have a table right up against the glass windows though, as all guests of the California Grill (regardless of your reservation time that day) are allowed access to an observation walkway where not only can you view the fireworks over Cinderella Castle, but the music is piped into the dining area and walkway as well. (For the foreseeable future, the Summer Nightastic Fireworks Show has replaced Wishes, and is sure to not only equal the excitement of Wishes, but with perimeter fireworks added throughout the park, perhaps eclipse it!)

The California Grill is not a value option by any stretch when it comes to dining at Walt Disney World, where starters can range from $10-$20 and main courses can be anywhere from $25-$50. Add in a glass of wine or two and dessert (or two) and this can certainly add up. However, the quality and variety of food, the service and Disney magic, not to mention the prime viewing of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks make this a dining experience that you won’t soon forget and will continue to return to upon future visits. If you happen to be dining with the Disney Dining Plan, the California Grill is considered a ‘Signature’ dining option, and thus requires 2 table service credits.

Overall, the California Grill is an amazing and unique dining experience, and although costly, will make your unforgettable Disney vacation that much more so.
