Disney Orders 4th Season of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” for Disney Junior

Disney has ordered a fourth season of its #1 series for preschoolers, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.” Consisting of 13 new episodes and nine extended specials, Season Four will premiere on the recently announced Disney Junior, a new television and online brand and, ultimately, a re-branded 24-hour basic cable/satellite channel devoted to preschool-age children around the world.

The third season of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” will continue to roll out on Disney Channel through 2011 with new episodes, the new physical fitness-themed short-form series, “Mickey Mousekersize,” and two brand new primetime specials, including “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally” which premieres this fall. Last October the series’ first-ever primetime special, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Choo Choo Express,” ranked as cable’s #1 program in its timeslot among its targeted Kids 2-5 demo, more than doubling year-ago preschool ratings in the time period. A family viewing event, 54% of Adults 18-49 viewed it with a preschooler.

Launched in May 2006, the Emmy-nominated “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” ranks among the top 10 series on all TV with kids 2-5 this year to date. Globally “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” reached over 140 million unduplicated viewers worldwide, airing in 158 countries/territories and in 30 different languages. Source: Nielsen Media Research, 2010: 12/28/09-7/11/10, Live+SD U.S. ratings. 2010 rank based on program level data with minimum 10 telecasts. Reach based on 4Q09. Individual country source lines available upon request.

Combining the rich heritage of Disney’s beloved classic characters with state-of-the-art CG animation, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” introduces a whole new generation of preschoolers to Mickey and his pals. Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto and Daisy all join Mickey in this vibrant interactive series.

The series’ curriculum is designed to introduce problem solving and early mathematics skills (sequencing, counting, classifying, sorting, complex patterns, spatial relations, size and distance comparisons, addition, subtraction, weights and balances) in a fun way through contemporary, interactive storytelling. Series consultants are Dr. Renee Cherow O’Leary, Debbie Jaffe Gower and Iris Sroka, Ph.D. Rob LaDuca is executive producer of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.” “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” is produced by Disney Television Animation.

“Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” currently airs weekdays at 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. ET/PT and weekends at 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. ET/PT during Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney programming block for preschoolers. The series carries a TV-Y parental guideline.

Disney’s Biggest Fan – Over 1900 Tattoos

Disney’s Biggest Fan - Over 1900 Tattoos

Very cool article from Live Needle about Disney Biggest Fan.

With over 1,900 Disney tattoos, George Reiger is considered Walt Disney’s biggest fan. Not only does he show his love for Disney by covering his body with tattoos, he also lives in a custom built Disney house with over 26,000 Disney items in it.

According to a Time News Lifestyle article, Reigner started tattooing his body at the age of 18. He said the reason for his first Mickey tat, was so Mickey could be with him wherever he goes. If there were one person in this world he eats, sleeps and breathes Disney, then it’s our good friend George Reigner.

Quick Facts about George Reiger’s 1900+ Disney tattoos

Hardest Tattoo — Epcot Centre on his upper thigh. It took 14 hours over two sessions.
Tiniest Tattoo — A goldfish in the mouth of Monstro the whale from Pinocchio.
Most Abstract Tattoo — The Tree of Life on his side, which contains more than 100 animals in the brownish bark.

Disney revs up Hawaiian marketing

Disney revs up Hawaiian marketing

With time-share interests in its under-construction Hawaiian resort now for sale, Walt Disney Co. is revving up its marketing efforts for the project.

Disney Vacation Club, the Disney Co.’s time-share arm, this month added an Aulani-specific plug to a television commercial that has been airing in the Orlando market promoting the time-share club. It has also scheduled a special sales preview aimed at Walt Disney World annual passholders next weekend that will include giveaways, a dance party and Disney character appearances.

Aulani is a critically important project for Disney. The 841-room hotel and time share is the first test of the company’s strategy to build stand-alone resorts and niche attractions in markets beyond its massive theme-park resorts.

The company is also hoping the Hawaiian resort will help expand Disney Vacation Club’s membership base, which currently is heavily concentrated on the U.S. East Coast.

Aulani will be Disney’s second time-share offering west of the Mississippi, following the opening last year of 50 units at Disney’s Grand California Resort & Spa at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.

It also becomes one of five properties that Disney is currently peddling interests in, joining the California villas as well as Bay Lake Tower, Animal Kingdom Villas and Treehouse Villas, all of which are at Disney World.

A very cool article from Know Your Money. Talking about the production cost of the previous Pixar films. Not sure if that is due to inflation or the amount of money they are spending in advertising.

Disney monorail briefly shut down after pilot suffers minor electric shock

Disney monorail briefly shut down after pilot suffers minor electric shock

Walt Disney World monorails were out of service briefly this evening after a monorail pilot received a minor electric shock while flipping a switch, authorities said.

The pilot was mildly shocked in the arm while switching on a beacon that identifies the beam the monorail is traveling on, a fire official and Disney said. He was taken to Florida Hospital Celebration Health by ambulance, where he was treated and released.

Park guests were removed from the area while the pilot was being treated on the platform. The monorails were down for 20 or 30 minutes.

A Reedy Creek Fire Department spokesman likened the incident to accidentally contacting a light socket with a finger. The voltage was low, he said.

Food and Wine Festival Strategies for Saving Money and Your Waistline

Food and Wine Festival Strategies for Saving Money and Your Waistline

The events for this year’s Food and Wine Festival are starting to be announced and they look delicious as usual. Having made our first visit to Epcot’s celebration of food and wine last year, I will say that we had a blast! I will also say that, experienced Disney vacationers that we are, as Food and Wine newbies, we found the Festival awesome (despite August-like heat in October).….and just a little overwhelming. It definitely took some planning and research in advance to be prepared for this trip, so with that in mind, I thought I would share our experiences for those of you who are starting your planning for the Food and Wine Festival this year.

We were on the Disney Dining Plan, and I did make our ADRs for each night so our plan was to experience the Food and Wine Festival primarily for lunch on a couple of days. Wanting to do this affordably, and not stuff ourselves silly in the process, (and try to stay cool with the heat index at close to 100 as well), we developed a strategy that worked really well for us.

For our first luncheon excursion, DH, college-age DD, and yours truly decided to each visit a different kiosk. DD was to use the snack credits from our Dining Plan, while DH and I each used a Food and Wine card that we pre-loaded with $25 each. We figured that was plenty to start. We split up and hit 3 different food vendors, each of us choosing one item from the menu, and then we met (in the nearest shady spot), sampled from each other, “rated” our favorites, and then moved on to do another 3. In about 30-40 minutes we were half way around World Showcase, full (but not too much), and pretty much done for that day, so went back to our resort to take a break to cool off.

On our second day of Festival lunches, we repeated the process going in the other direction, and within another 30 minutes we had succeeded in completing our circuit around the world, having truly sampled something from every food kiosk. It was so much fun, and we had a wonderful time sampling things we probably would have never tried otherwise.

Best of all, we completed day 2 with the remainder of our snack credits and 2 original Festival cards, without having added additional dollars to either card. So we did truly eat our way around the World and managed to not break the bank in the process.

What did we NOT do? We did not do any of the additional paid programs, and I have to say that it was just too overwhelming to have even considered anything beyond the basics for our first year. We did attend a great free program outside Italy, about making pasta and a simple Italian meal. It was fascinating, and we learned a lot.

We also truthfully did not do a lot of drinking. It was just too hot to even think about it during the day…we just wanted water…and the two evenings that we were there, the lines were very long, and we were frankly quite full from dinner. I will say that the beer and wine tastings looked pretty awesome, and I would love to explore those more another time.

What would I do differently? Well our strategy actually worked well, and I am pleased that we did not eat ourselves sick, nor did we spend as much money as one probably could spend. I think the main thing I would do next time, would be to either not do the Dining Plan, or plan one evening where we did not have a table service dinner, and do some samplings in the evening as well.

Good luck planning your Food and Wine Festival visit this year! You will have a blast!
