Disney’s TTA renamed to the ‘Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover’

Disney's TTA renamed to the 'Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover'

This interesting news is coming to us from WDW Magic. Not sure why the sudden name change I guess they wanted to make the sign even longer. I am glad they don’t pay by the word.

Here is the article:

The ‘Tomorrowland Transit Authority’ has been renamed to the ‘Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover’. The original name for the attraction on opening day July 1 1975 was the ‘WEDway PeopleMover’. It was renamed ‘Tomorrowland Transit Authority’ in 1994.

From Disney regarding the name change:

‘The PeopleMover ride system plays an important role in Disney history and heritage and it is for this very reason we have decided to restore its name here in the Magic Kingdom. The name change from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority to the TTA PeopleMover is a way for us to link the past with the present, and in turn, guide us into the future. It is a way for all the promise and wonder that the word “PeopleMover” still holds, to carry on into new generations.’

Miramax Films: THE SWITCH – “In The Market” Film Clip

Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman star in “The Switch,” an offbeat comedy about Kassie, a smart, fun-loving single woman who, despite her slightly neurotic best friend Wally’s objections, decides it’s time to have a baby—even if it means doing it by herself… with a little help from a charming sperm donor (Patrick Wilson).

But, unbeknownst to her, Kassie’s plans go awry because of a last-minute switch that isn’t discovered until seven years later when Wally finally gets acquainted with Kassie’s precocious—though slightly neurotic—son.  From the people behind “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Juno” comes “The Switch,” due in theaters this summer.

THE SWITCH hits theaters on August 20th, 2010.

Disney Purchased Film Rights to Oblivion

Disney Purchased Film Rights to Oblivion

“Oblivion,” the upcoming Radical graphic novel from “Tron Legacy” director Joseph Kosinski (pictured), has found a home with Disney.

The sci-fi project will act as a Kosinski directing vehicle and will be produced by Radical principal Barry Levine and Kosinski. Radical’s Jesse Berger will act as executive producer.

Kosinski partnered with Radical on the project in July 2009, although it was not set up at a studio. He spent the last year honing the story while putting the finishing touches on “Tron,” which is shaping up to be one of the most important movies for Disney in quite a while.

The story is set on a future Earth, where civilization lives above the clouds and scavengers collect ancient
artifacts from the polluted surface below. When one young scavenger finds a crashed spacecraft planetside, it lead him on a journey filled with romance and adventure.

It was Kosinski’s relationship with Disney production topper Sean Bailey, who was a producer on ”Tron” before becoming president of production at the studio, that helped cement the deal, which is in the seven figures and is said to be one the largest rights deals of the year.

Other studios were interested in the property and Bailey wanted to keep Kosinski in the Disney fold. The filmmaker, repped by Verve and Anonymous Content, is developing a remake of “Black Hole,” whose latest draft is getting high marks inside the studio.

Radical, repped by CAA and David Schiff, is due to release “Oblivion” this fall.

Disney World as your classroom? Disney Youth Education Series opens

Disney World as your classroom? Disney Youth Education Series opens

This article comes to us from Kristin Ford at The Daily Disney.

Students participating in Disney’s Animation Magic use a phenakistascope, an early animation tool, in the Disney Youth Education Series program at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

What child (or teacher) wouldn’t want to say they were going to school at a theme park? Many students would consider Walt Disney World the ultimate classroom.

Until this year, Disney Youth Education Series programs were only open to qualified school, scout, community or social organizations. Now, individual students can participate in the same courses that use Disney World’s unique campus to make learning fun.

YES programs are geared toward students ages 5 to 22 and fall into the categories of arts and humanities; leadership and careers; natural sciences; and physical sciences. You can read the 20 course descriptions and download brochures here.

Programs are available every day at Walt Disney World for qualified groups of 10 or more students. Individual-enrollment programs have a specific schedule, and each course has a 10-student minimum.

Top 10 Things To Do at Disney World Without Kids

Top 10 Things To Do at Disney World Without Kids

A very funny, and entertaining list By Corrina Lawson at Wired talking about Top 10 Things To Do at Disney World Without Kids. I loved #6 the best..Ohh Shiny..lol

Here are just a few:

1. Wait

If there’s a ride that you must have right.this.second, you can get a bottle of water, a snack and settle into line, which is exactly what I did for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, my first stop on the kid-less tour. It was supposed to be an eighty minute wait without FastPass.

However, the wait was closer to thirty minutes which was plenty of time to finish my snack. (Though if you have a weak stomach, the snack may not be advisable. )

2. Appreciate the Scenery.

When I’m in line for a Disney ride with my kids, I’m not paying much attention to the ride. I’m counting heads. I have four children and I have to make sure they’re not scared or teasing each other or becoming dehydrated.

Alone, it was possible to look around and appreciate the care and skill Disney puts into maintaining the illusion of unreality inside the theme parks.

For instance, I finally noticed the show tunes piped into the central meeting area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I’m sure the music is nothing new but I never heard it before. This time, I recognized a few songs, such as “On the Street Where You Live” from My Fair Lady.

3. Be Terrified

When I rode the Tower of Terror with the kids, I kept an eagle eye on the younger two to make sure they weren’t afraid and that they were strapped in securely. All the spooky trappings went over my head.

When I rode it by myself, I could pay attention to the theatrics. I realized “hey, this is kinda, well, terrifying.”

ABC Family’s Chatterbox iPad App Now Available on iTunes

ABC Family's Chatterbox iPad App Now Available on iTunes

ABC Family today announced the ABC Family Chatterbox iPad app is available on the App Store. The app connects iPad users to the network’s popular original series by allowing fans to interact with one another about their favorite ABC Family shows, characters and storylines.

“The ABC Family Chatterbox app reflects the network’s mission to connect with our Millennial viewers through emerging social media platforms that enhance their viewing experience,” says Beth Johnson, Vice President, Digital Media, ABC Family. “We know our audience puts a high value on community and engagement, and this app allows them to use iPad to interact with each other about the network’s programming in an innovative way.”

With the Chatterbox app on iPad, viewers can talk about their favorite ABC Family shows with friends and fellow fans — as the action happens on television. Additionally, they can read or join in on the hot topics related to ABC Family’s hit series including “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Pretty Little Liars” “Huge,” “Make It or Break It” and “Melissa & Joey.”

The ABC Family Chatterbox app is the latest example of innovation from the Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG), and follows ABC Family’s recently released The Secret Diary of Ashley Juergens enhanced eBook on the iBookstore. DATG was the first to bring full episode video to the iTunes store and just this past April, DATG delivered ad-supported video to iPad via the acclaimed ABC Player App. The app has proven to be a tremendous success with over 950,000 downloads and 6 million episodes started. Additionally, DATG has created an ABC News App that has to date been downloaded more than 200,000 times.

The ABC Family Chatterbox App is available from the App Store on iPad or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
