Family Fun Weekend Recap: Fiesta Weekend

Family Fun Weekend Recap: Fiesta Weekend

Disneyland introduced their all new Family Fun Weekends, starting January 14 and continuing on through March 6. The festivities can be found at the Big Thunder Ranch festival arena. (I’m glad it’s back there because then I get to pass the goats on the way. I love the goats.)

The first weekend (January 14-16) was Fiesta Weekend. Characters like Mickey, Minnie and Donald were dressed in their fiesta best, and Mariachi Divas performed for the crowd. (If you’ve never seen them before, you can catch them performing at California Adventure from time to time.)

Here are some photos from the event! And be on the lookout for my next post about last weekend’s Kickin’ Country Weekend!

Delicious, Filling and Affordable at Disneyland

Delicious, Filling and Affordable at Disneyland

I enjoy eating at the parks, simply because it’s more convenient. Unfortunately, sometimes those eating ventures can be quite costly. (My wallet says, “Ouch!”) But then, it happened — I found a meal that was not just satisfying but completely affordable.

Chili. Cheese. Fries. Ooey, gooey, hot chili cheese fries. My mouth waters just thinking about them. What’s even better is that you can SHARE these. I get full sharing them with someone like my boyfriend or my mom. (Yep, I go to Disneyland with my mom sometimes.)

You can get them at the Golden Horseshoe in Frontierland, which is great because you can order your food, grab a table, and eat while you wait for Billy Hill and the Hillbillies to perform. (It’s best to get there early, because the GH gets packed! Billy Hill and his brothers are definitely popular.)

So if you’re headed to Disneyland and you find you’ve got the munchies, do yourself a favor and order some chili cheese fries. Your taste buds (and stomach) will thank you.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Deserves More Credit!!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Deserves More Credit!!

Almost every time a group of Disney fans start talking about which park they like the most or spend the most time in, Disney’s Hollywood Studios(DHS) comes up on the short end. I must be one of those few folks who really enjoy and appreciate what this park has to offer that is so often overlooked by so many. No matter what you enjoy about Disney Parks, DHS has it and in many cases more so than the other parks. Think about these things:

  1. Table Service Restaurants – Only Epcot has more table service restaurants than DHS. DHS has The Hollywood Brown Derby, Mama Melrose’s, The Sci-Fi Dine In, and the 50’s Prime Time Cafe. They also have Hollywood and Vine but since that is a character buffet we won’t count it as table service.
  2. Signature Restaurants – Sure they count Cinderella’s Royal Table as a signature event and Le Cellier in Epcot has recently been designated Signature for dinner only (personal opinion – undeserved) but The Hollywood Brown Derby is a true Signature restaurant in every sense. Since I have experienced nearly all of the Signatures, it is deserved in my opinion.
  3. E-Ticket Attractions – Rock ‘n Roller Coaster, Twighlight Zone Tower of Terror, Star Tours and Toy Story Midway Mania and of course that doesn’t count the stage type shows.
  4. Shows – Something for every taste and way more truly good ones than any other park. They are the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (sure it’s old but still fun), the American Idol Experience, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast – Live On Stage, and of course Fantasmic! These are the major shows with some much smaller ones scattered around.

Is Disney’s Hollywood Studios my favorite park? Nope, that’s reserved for Epcot. It is however right up there with the Magic Kingdom but for way different reasons. If you think about it DHS is a bit smaller than the others but it really does have a lot packed into it. It does have some weaker areas; counter service locations are sparse and not all that imaginative and the parade (even the new one) is at best a bit weak but Epcot doesn’t even have a parade. On your next visit, give Disney’s Hollywood Studios a real chance I think if you do you will be very pleasantly surprised. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!

Disney Alfred Angelo Bridal Gowns Now in Stores

Disney Alfred Angelo Bridal Gowns Now in Stores

After much excitement and anticipation, the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo collection has arrived in bridal stores this month. The collection of seven wedding dresses can now be found for sale in over 68 Alfred Angelo Signature Stores nationwide, and hundreds of Alfred Angelo independent partner Bridal Boutiques across the U.S., Canada and Europe. The collection is affordably priced, with styles from $599 to $1199 ($USD), and is available in sizes 0 to 30W.

The Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo collection is inspired by the style and personality of seven iconic Disney Princess characters: Ariel, Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White and Tiana. With each gown, brides can showcase their personal style. The collection includes classic, grand ball gowns in layers of tulle and sparkle net, updated fit and flare styles to highlight curves and movement, and pleated and wrapped bodices to flatter the bride’s figure.

“Since we announced this new collection of fashion forward Disney Princess inspired wedding gowns with Alfred Angelo last Fall, we have received hundreds of inquiries from brides and fans wanting to know when they could order their dress,” says Pam Lifford, executive vice president, global fashion and home, Disney Consumer Products. “We are excited by the response and are honored to be a part of their magical day where they can look and feel like a princess too.”

The debut collection by Alfred Angelo received unprecedented accolades at the Chicago National Bridal Market in October from bridal retailers, national bridal editors, and bloggers. News of the collection spread like wildfire to consumers all over the world across every media platform. Multiple national news channels included coverage in the morning news cycle following the collection’s unveiling. Outspoken critic Perez Hilton included high praise for the collection on his fashion blog, Coco Perez, specifically commending its affordability and size range.

“Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Disney blogs exploded with messages from brides eagerly awaiting a chance to try on these styles. Anticipation continued to build as the dresses arrived in stores,” says Denise Wash, Vice President of Marketing for Alfred Angelo. “We are delighted to finally offer this amazing collection to brides everywhere. A few of the Disney styles have already reached our top 10 best seller list for 2011.”

In addition, the premiere video on YouTube’s Disney Living channel, giving a “behind the scenes” sneak peek at the collection and photo shoot, had 80,000 views within the first hour of being posted and has since skyrocketed to over 1.5 million views.

Designer Michael Shettel says, “Brides-to-be are head over heels in love with our newly released Disney Fairy Tale Weddings bridal collection. We took amazing design, charming storytelling, a bit of sparkle, added some smiles and joy, mixed it with a pinch of Disney magic for their very own enchanted gown!”

Dreams do come true, especially for women who grew up dreaming of a fairy tale wedding modeled after their favorite Disney Princess.

Special Program Provides Tax Help to Thousands of Disney Cast Members

Special Program Provides Tax Help to Thousands of Disney Cast Members

What if I’m missing my W-2? Have I filled out all of the right forms? How do I know what is and isn’t deductible?

As millions of Americans deal with those questions on their own this tax season, thousands of Disney cast members can take advantage of free or reduced-cost tax assistance available on site at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

“Our free and low-cost tax assistance continues to be a popular offering for our cast members,” said Tracy Swanson, vice president of Workforce Planning, Benefits and Health for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “Offering tax assistance helps take the stress out of tax season and provides our cast members peace-of-mind knowing their forms are filled out correctly and they’ve maximized any return that’s due to them.”

Disney has offered tax assistance to cast members for more than 20 years. In that time, these programs have evolved to include not only on-site tax preparation but complete e-filing services as well.

At locations across Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, cast members receive advice on some of their most pressing concerns about their taxes by expert volunteers from the IRS, AARP and local law schools.

Volunteers have assisted cast members with issues ranging from changes to the tax code to the discovery of deductions they never knew were available to them.

The program is now so popular it has grown to include Saturday sessions and double the number of free tax assistance sessions from last year.

To take advantage of the services, cast members only need to provide their W-2’s and other important tax filing documents, like charitable receipts and interest statements. All of the IRS forms and expert advice are waiting for them.

Bomb Squad Called to Walt Disney World

Bomb Squad Called to Walt Disney World

According to WESH authorities were called out to investigate a suspicious package at Walt Disney World’s Shade of Green Resort. The package was received but there was no return address on it.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad determined that the package was not a threat, and just a precaution the Sheriff’s office took due to an international conference taking place at WDW.

Shades of Green Resort is on Disney property but is operated as an Armed Forces Recreation Center for the exclusive use of military members and their families.
