Mickey’s Soundsational Parade to Debut in Summer at Disneyland

Mickey's Soundsational Parade to Debut in Summer at Disneyland

Along with Star Tours 2.0 and Little Mermaid being pushed back to June, the new parade at Disneyland will also make its way to the park in the summer. This news, along with the date push-backs, were announced on Inside the Magic’s website.

Mickey’s Soundsational Parade will feature many performers and Disney characters making their way down Main Street while grooving to Disney tunes.

I’m super excited for this parade, and I hope a lot of other people are, too!

Star Tours 2.0, Little Mermaid Delayed at Disneyland and California Adventure

I found this bit of news on Ricky Brigante’s Inside the Magic website. You can read the original article here.

The Little Mermaid dark ride, currently under construction at California Adventure, was supposed to have a spring opening date, but alas, it has been pushed back to June. No specific date has been announced.

Across the way at Disneyland, work is being done on Star Tours. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue (aka Star Tours 2.0) had an opening date of May 20, 2011, but that has also been pushed back to June 2011.

While I’m sad that I’ll have to wait a bit longer for these two attractions, I think it’s important that they make sure everything is done properly to give guests the best experience they possibly can. I can’t wait until June! (I just hope they don’t open when my pass is blocked out.)

The photo above is concept art from Blue Sky Cellar. The pictured mural will be featured in the Little Mermaid dark ride attraction.

Baby Einstein Adds Three New Discovery Kits to its Collection on February 22ndBaby Einstein Adds Three New Discovery Kits to its Collection on February 22ndBaby Einstein Adds Three New Discovery Kits to its Collection on February 22nd
Baby Einstein, an award-winning leader of infant products, proudly adds three new products – Baby Lullaby, Neptune’s Oceans & World of Rhythm – to its line-up of recently unveiled Baby Einstein Discovery Kits on February 22, 2011. Baby Einstein Discovery Kits, which are specifically designed for babies up to two-years of age, help parents introduce babies to the beautiful worlds of classical music, nature and the arts through integrated multimedia kits.

Baby Einstein Discovery Kits (which are each packaged to include a Baby Einstein DVD, a music CD and either a book or Discovery Cards) are designed to help provideparents with new ways to introduce their little ones to the world around them in playful and engaging ways. The kits not only promote discovery and inspire baby’s natural curiosities but they also encourage parents to look to their everyday experiences as a way to extend content beyond just the kit.

All multimedia elements included in the kit compliment the other, inviting little eyes and little ears to enjoy the bright colors, real-world images, fun puppet shows and delightful melodies featured either in the DVD, CD, babybook or Discovery Cards. Discovery Kits align with a baby’s path from infant to toddler by offering three broad levels of discovery — Experience (Level 1), Explore (Level 2) and Expression (Level 3). Level 1 kits are about experiencing music, utilizing popular classical music works by Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and others, re-orchestrated for little ears and enhanced with simple baby-friendly images and puppet shows. Level 2 kits invite babies to explore the outdoors and focus on animals found in nature, the ocean and around the home. Level 3 kits feature puppet hosts including Coco the dancing cockatoo, Vincent Van Goat and Bard the Dragon, and give toddlers a platform to move and express themselves throughmusic, colors and words.

The new Baby Lullaby, Neptune’s Oceans & World of Rhythm Discovery Kits join six recently released titles (Baby Beethoven, Baby Mozart, Animals Around Me, Wild Animal Safari, World of Colors and World of Words) bringing the collection to nine total. Kits can be found at stores across the U.S. and Canada only and/or online at BabyEinstein and retail for the suggested price of $19.99 U.S./$24.99 Canada.

What not to miss at Disney’s California Adventure

Disney California Adventure

“To all people who believe in the power of dreams, welcome.Disney’s California Adventure opens its golden gates to you.”

— Michael, Eisner, February 8, 2001, opening day
Disney California Adventure Park was conceived as a  tribute and a celebration of the history and cultural diversity of California, and meant to feel as if guests had just walked into a vintage California postcard. Construction began in 1998 on the 55 acres that once housed a 5,000 car parking lot. The expansion of Downtown Disney, the renovation of the Disneyland Hotel, and the addition of the whimsical Paradise Pier Hotel and the humungous Grand Californian Hotel (based on the famed Ahwanee Hotel in Yosemite) were all completed in 2001.
The new theme park was not an immediate success. Locals and Disney purists were disappointed with the quality and the limited number of rides. Today the park is the eleventh most visited theme park in the world! The entire park was been rennovated, refreshed, and re-themed, with more expansion underway. Popular rides like Grizzily River Rapids, the Hollywood Tower of Terror, Soarin over California, and the world class rollercoaster California Screamin’ have been joined by A Bug’s Land for the smaller children, Toy Story Midway Mania, Silly Symphony Strings, the Golden Zepher and Mickey’s Fun Wheel (the swinging cars are much more thrilling than they first appear!).
What not to miss at Disney’s California Adventure
The spectacular World of Color features music, lasers, the most fantastic colors of lights and fire over 1200 fountains and a mist screen. With the colorful lights of Paradise Pier as a backdrop, up to 6,000 guests at a time are mesmerized at this literally breath-taking production. And its not only the technical aspects of the show that are amazing. In true Disney fashion, the blend of Disney music, characters, and stories elicits a cavalcade of emotions from its viewers. You can hear a collective gasp of wonder as the fountains begin, a series of awestruck “wow”s as zebras stampede towards you or Ariel.s undersea world comes to life, and thunderous applause when you revisit beloved Lady and the Tramp sharing spaghetti or Tron’s light cycles and grid light up the nighttime sky.
ElecTronika is an interactive light show and dance party in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. All of the glow sticks and glow discs and dancin’ in the street of a family friendly rave, it is a treat to watch kids of varying ages dance, compete and spotlight each other in circles around the DJ. Gather up all your energy and see if you can jump and fist pump for an entire song! The kids can do it for hours at a time, and love it. A theatrical preview of Tron and Flynn’s Arcade are offered as well, and you can see blue glowing drinks against the light projections and the infectious techno beat.
Another showstopping experience is “Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular” housed in the 2,000 seat Hyperion Theater. You can enjoy popcorn and churros while you wait in line. Along with the familiar music and great dancing, there are dazzling special effects (the flying carpet, Prince Ali’s Parade complete with elephant), and the Genie’s hysterical and sometimes topical irreverent humor. Loved it, and can’t wait to see it again!
What not to miss at Disney’s California Adventure
And don’t miss the Disney Animation Building. Inside you can experience early animation techniques, learn to draw a Disney character, see the Beast’s Library, sing and act with Disney characters in Ursula’s undersea lair, and experience magic of all sorts, all unexpected. Another unexpected pleasure: Ariel’s Grotto Restaurant and Avalon Cove lounge. The table service restaurant offers authentic Santa Maria style tritip and California wines, and a special pass to World of Color. We enjoyed sitting under the gazebo like roof of the Avalon Cove, enjoying the breezes, the fountains and the views of Paradise Pier. It was lovely and relaxing, and we shared a huge plate of very fresh Lobster Nachos and delicious tri-tip sliders. Excellent service and just the right break in the day.
Still under construction is a new entrance, and the intriguing looking building for The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventures opening the summer of 2011. I’m sorry to have missed it, and it will be a great excuse to come back and visit soon. There are more facelifts, rennovations and re-imaginings of the current park, and the additon of a massive (12 acres) new area with an already visible imposing mountain which will be Cars Land. Based on the Disney-‘Pixar movie, it will be a recreation of Radiator Springs, with dining and shopping and three new rides. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree will be a teacup-like attraction, Luigi’s Roamin’ Tires will be a hovercraft/flying saucerlike ride, and Radiatior Springs Racer, will be one of the most expensive rides ever built (estimated at $200 million). Using the technology from Walt Disney World’s “Test Track”, it will feature Lightning MCQueen in a duel race with tunnels, bridges, waterfalls and banked turns. All the lilttle boys we passed in Cars hats and nascar like costumes are eagerly awaiting this one.
What not to miss at Disney’s California Adventure
The Disney California Adventure Park is now a thrilling, lovely, happy and fun place to be — so much so, that we overheard guests saying it was now their favorite park. And with Disney, you know there will always be new adventures just around the corner. Stay tuned and check back soon!
Still under construction is a new entrance, and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure coming in the summer of 2011..

Walt Disney World Offers Romantic Playground for Lovebirds on Valentine’s Day and Every Day

Walt Disney World Offers Romantic Playground for Lovebirds on Valentine’s Day and Every Day

The storybook setting and amorous ambiance of Walt Disney World Resort has lovebirds flocking to the Vacation Kingdom for a romantic getaway. Moonlit strolls, luxurious spas and intimate dining make it feel like Valentine’s Day every day. With all the choices available, couples commemorating their commitment have a “heart full” of enchanting ways to customize their Valentine’s vacations.
Couples who’ve been bitten by the love bug don’t need a fairy godmother to find romance at Walt Disney World Resort. This is, after all, home to some of the world’s most famous romances: Cinderella and Prince Charming, Lady and the Tramp, Beauty and the Beast – and don’t forget America’s sweethearts, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Throughout the 40-square-mile playground, love is in the air at the Vacation Kingdom. During a couples spa experience. In the middle of a romantic dinner. Or on one of the “love boats” that cruise Walt Disney World waterways.

Honeymooners thrive in the romantic allure of Walt Disney World Resort – a top-rated honeymoon destination, according to industry experts.

And for couples who want to make their own fairy tale dream come true – complete with Cinderella’s coach and her famous glass slipper – Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings can create an unforgettable union.

The four Walt Disney World theme parks create a perfect setting for spontaneous romance – whether it’s a stroll along the lush Maharajah Jungle Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or a relaxing stop for espresso and pastries at a sidewalk table in the France pavilion at Epcot World Showcase. Beyond the parks, couples can embrace a bouquet of romantic experiences that seem designed just for them:

The Couple that ‘Spas’ and ‘Flies’ Together….. – What’s more enjoyable than a luxurious spa treatment? Imagine sharing it with that special someone. The Grand Floridian Spa & Health Club, in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, features a “couples room” where guests can enjoy specialized spa treatments – such as massages and facials – with the one they love. For information about spa treatments, call 407/824-2332.

For these couples, dreams become reality. Where else but at Disney could a bride arrive for her wedding in Cinderella’s glass coach, have a handsome major domo carry wedding rings to the altar in a glass slipper, or have Mickey and Minnie greet guests at the reception?

Whether it’s an elegant ball at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a traditional ceremony at Disney’s Wedding Pavilion or a beach-themed wedding complete with tiki torches, leis and luau on one of the Walt Disney World white-sand beaches, Disney custom designs each wedding with the famous “Disney Difference” – providing attention to the tiniest detail.

Disney’s wedding specialists incorporate all the elements in a one-stop shop including the ceremony, entertainment, cuisine, floral arrangements, audiovisuals and accommodations. For more information on Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, call 321/939-4623 or visit disneyweddings.com.

Renewing Vows – Many couples who’ve been married for years are coming to Walt Disney World Resort, often with their families, to renew their vows five, 10, 25 and 50 years later. A Disney vacation provides the perfect backdrop to celebrate this family milestone. Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings experts can tailor the ceremony and celebration to suit each couple.

How to Get Your Child Ready for Disney FROM BIRTH!

How to Get Your Child Ready for Disney FROM BIRTH!

In honor of the arrival of our Fearless Leader’s second child, we, the Writers of Chip and Company, have compiled a comprehensive list. A list so important that we felt it should be shared with the world! A list that every expecting and self-respecting Disney Fan should read.

And if you have already received your bundle of joy, as Chip did at 2:22 AM of February 9th, then it’s even more important that you read and apply our suggestions. But hurry, she’s already growing up right before your eyes:

20 Ways to get your child ready for Disney FROM BIRTH:

1.      Hang a Mobile over her crib that plays ‘It’s a Small World After All.’ In 27 languages.

2.      As you plan your Disney trips, ask yourself “Will I be able to ride Space Mountain with her strapped in one of those baby carriers?”

3.      Make sure to book an appointment at the Main Street Barbershop for that ever-important first haircut!

4.      Be sure to track the baby’s height measurement every single day. You must count down until she’s tall enough to ride Tower of Terror.

5.      Visit the Parks early and often.  And, never under-estimate a good parade to over-stimulate children into a nice nap.

6.      Teach her to lift her hands in the air while in the baby swing so she will learn how to assume the position.

7.      Prepare your little one for the Disney dining experience by dressing up as different characters during meal times.

8.      Search your home area for a local Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boutique stylist (or kidnap one) so your little Princesses always have THAT look!! If you have the look, you have the feeling.

9.      It’s good to teach kids a second language as early as possible. Why not start with: “Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas.”

10. Sing “When You Wish Upon a Star” to her as a lullaby every night, so that she learns early that the Magic is alive and that dreams really do come true.

11. Buy her an iPod Touch and fill it with every Disney App imaginable. It’s never too early to become a Disney Deek!

12. Get her an Alice costume, Mad Hatter, March Hare and tea set so she can have her own Mad Tea Parties.

13. Slowly start integrating Dole Whip floats and turkey legs into the child’s diet while wearing a mouse ear hat.

14. Take your baby to the Flower and Garden Festival every year, to help build up her immunity to Florida allergens.

15. Instead of trying to get your baby to say “mama” or “dada” as her first word, instead, try to teach her “Mickey” or “Minnie.”

16. Make sure to buy baby’s first Mouse Ears! Never too soon to be a Mouseketeer!

17. Make sure your baby is used to riding around in a stroller… she’ll be doing lots of that at Walt Disney World!

18. For Halloween, cover her in Christmas lights and play SpectroMagic Parade Music as she walks from house to house.

19. Buy a Tinkerbell nightlight so baby doesn’t ever have to be afraid of the dark or pirates.

20. Play old Disney 45’s while she sleeps. Merlin Jones’ Sleep-learning system doesn’t just work on chimpanzees!

Although these suggestions were written with Chip’s little girl in mind, they will work for the little boys in your family as well. But some may want to go for the Pirate Makeover with tip number 8. I’m just sayin’.

And if you would like to welcome Chip’s new bundle of joy into the Blog-o-sphere, why not leave a comment with your Best Wishes!

Wednesday with Walt: Our Family Motto

Wednesday with Walt: Our Family Motto

On the fireplace mantle in my living room sits a white picture frame adorned with gold, ornate Mickey ears on each side. There is no picture in this frame, but rather a very meaningful quote from Walt Disney. The quote is:

“Why do we have to grow up? I know more adults who have the children’s approach to life. They’re people who don’t give a hang what the Joneses do. You see them at Disneyland every time you go there. They are not afraid to be delighted with simple pleasures, and they have a degree of contentment with what life has brought – sometimes it isn’t much, either.”

This is our “family motto” of sorts. We didn’t choose it nor plan to live by it, we just happen to be some of the people to which he referred. One day a few years ago, I was reading about Walt and found it. I was so impressed by how it summed us up, that I made this homemade plaque to display as a reminder that we might not have a lot of material things compared to some people, but we are alright in Walt’s book.

It made me feel good to know that there was someone who got me; someone who understood how important the simple pleasures are to some people. Someone who knew that joy comes from your experiences in life, not from what you own. I mean, I would certainly be happy to be who I am and own a boat, a mansion, and loads of money — but I would not want to give up my annual trips to Walt Disney World with my family in order to attain more material things.

It doesn’t matter to me if people think we are crazy for using our money to visit the same place year after year. I truly wish they could understand this Disney Magic. Our family time in WDW is the very best and most precious ten days of my year, every year. I am so thankful for the love and closeness of my family, and I am so grateful for every second we share together in this magical place.

Finding myself in a community with others who feel the same way I do about Disney, especially all the writers and readers of Chip & Company (and The Affordable Mouse), has added so much more to my life during these last few months. This is what Walt intended for his legacy.  Thank you, Walt! Well done!

Author’s note: I am looking forward to sharing more of Walt’s life with everyone during my new weekly blog, Wednesday with Walt.
