Disney’s Snow White Remake ‘Order of the Seven’ Details

Disney's Snow White Remake 'Order of the Seven' Details

According to the Hollywood Reporter Disney’s new Snow White Remake ‘Order of the Seven’ has a new Director attached to the film along with some interesting movie details.

Commercials director and visual effects wizard Michael Gracey has been chosen as the man to helm what is being envisioned as China-set epic. Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend), who was attached to the project for several years, has moved on.

Andrew Gunn is producing the movie, which earlier this year got a refurbished script from Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt.

The unique project, which Disney has been developing since 2002, focuses a bit more on Snow’s seven companions, who aren’t as cute and jolly as in the 1937 classic Disney animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In fact, the project, which was initially known as Snow and the Seven and had scripts by writers ranging from Michael Chabon to Jayson Rothwell, is evolving into more of an original action film, with the Snow White elements being minimized.

In this iteration, the seven are a 19th century-set disparate band of international warriors belonging to a centuries-old order who have lost their way. Their meeting with an Englishwoman being chased by an ancient evil is the catalyst for their redemption.

While the project is set in China, the warriors will be from locales near (the U.S.) and far (Russia), and each warrior will have a unique fighting style.

So what do you think about this live action Disney film? It seems to be a far cry from the Original Snow White which we all know and love. Let us know in the comment box below.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Celebrates Cotton-Top Tamarin Month

Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcakes Created by Pastry Chef Andreas Born at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Disney Chef Andreas crafted a chocolate mold to cast both white and dark chocolate to create the cotton-top tamarin face. Dark chocolate shavings replicate the miniature monkey’s mane atop a generous dollop of butter cream. The cupcake is rich, dark chocolate.

The delicious sweets are $3.99 at the Coffee Kiosk at the entrance to Discovery Island, just across from the Cotton-top display. They’re also at Kusafiri Bakery and during August, at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, where all the cotton-top tamarin activities are centered.

In case you’re wondering just why there’s a cotton-top tamarin month at Disney’s Animal Kindgom, Aug. 15 is a national holiday in Colombia, South America – the “Day of the Cotton-Top Tamarin” – and Disney is doing its part to help save the endangered species.

Check out the posts below for more on the Cotton-Top Tamarins at Disney’s Animal Kingdom:

“Mars Needs Moms” DVD/Blu-ray Review

"Mars Needs Moms" DVD/Blu-ray Review
Stunning visuals and a decent story makes "Mars Needs Moms" a welcome addition to your Disney movie collection. - Aljon Go

What’s it about?
From Disney and Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis (best director, ‘Forrest Gump,’ 1994) comes the craziest adventure this side of the galaxy ‘Mars Needs Moms.’ Take out the trash, eat your broccoli who needs moms anyway? Nine-year-old Milo (Seth Green) finds out how much he needs his (Joan Cusack) when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own young. In a race against time and oxygen, his quest to save her knows no bounds. And with some unexpected help, Milo just might find his way back to her in more ways than one. Complete with intergalactic bonus features, it’s a thrilling journey that’s pure, out-of-this-world crazy fun.

"Mars Needs Moms" DVD/Blu-ray Review

There was a moment where it almost seemed a bit preachy with the whole “women are from Mars and men are from the dumpster” painting of the Martian culture. That said the tender family moments, humor and action scenes more than made up for that speed bump.

The Lowdown…
The trailer alone got me hyped to see the film due to its amazing visuals. The colors were brilliant in high definition and the sound design was equally impressive is 5.1 surround sound. On the plus side the various pop-culture references are great touches. See how many you can spot upon multiple viewings. Where this film seems to loose a step is with the story. Don’t get me wrong, but for a film that’s marketed as a “light-hearted family film” the darker tone of the latter part of the movie tended to get a little heavy handed. There was a moment where it almost seemed a bit preachy with the whole “women are from Mars and men are from the dumpster” painting of the Martian culture. That said the tender family moments, humor and action scenes more than made up for that speed bump.

"Mars Needs Moms" DVD/Blu-ray Review
Take a look at the actors against their on-screen counterpart. Impressive.

Bonus features were pretty good, however when purchasing a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack I would have liked to see more featurettes. The deleted scenes with temp animation and commentary are what you would expect from Disney. I especially liked the “Life On Mars: The Full Motion-Capture Experience” where they documented the special process of motion-capturing the movements before putting those animations into the computer. The only suggestion I could have added to this point is the ability to switch back and forth between main view and the mo-cap footage in the picture-in-picture display.

The Verdict…
Even though critics and the public were lukewarm to the film I would definitely recommend picking up this film. It kept my attention with funny character interaction, character development and impressive visuals. There is enough substance in this film to keep both children and adults engaged and would make for perfect family night viewing.

The Fox & the Hound 1 and 2: An Unlikely Friendship and Adventure-filled movie pack!

The Fox & the Hound 1 and 2: An Unlikely Friendship and Adventure-filled movie pack!

This Tuesday, August 9th, two of Disney’s most beloved classics make their way to Blu Ray for the first time! Coming out of the Disney vault is Walt Disney’s 24th animated feature, The Fox & the Hound.  The original release (which came out in 1981) featured the voices of Mickey Rooney, Corey Feldman, and Kurt Russell and it’s sequel includes some country all-stars like Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood (Fox and the Hound 2 also features the voice talents of Patrick Swayze and Lucas Grabeel).

The Fox & the Hound and it’s sequel will be available as a 3 disc blu ray combo pack which will include 1 blu ray with both films, as well as The Fox & the Hound on DVD, and The Fox & the Hound 2 on DVD.  Additionally, you can instead purchase the 2 disc DVD combo pack which does not include the blu ray disc.

The story of friendship blooming in the most unconventional place, is a great addition to any Disney collection.  (And the Fox & the Hound sequel is one of my personal favorites!)  Join Todd and Copper as they become ‘the best of friends’ and make some hard decisions on what true friendship really means.

The special features will keep you and your family entertained for hours! The DVDs offer a sing-a-long, ‘Making of’ featurette, music video, and a music featurette.  On the blu yay you will additionally find a montage of real life unlikely animal friends (this is really cute)!

In celebration of The Fox & the Hound’s 30th anniversary this 2 disc set is sure to be a family favorite, with digitally remastered film and sound!

If Disney did a Reality TV show: Survivor

If Disney did a Reality TV show: SurvivorOur country is relatively obsessed with “reality television”. I personally think its the modern-day version of the Roman Colosseum. A place where we can go and watch people who are worse off than us and somehow feel a bit better about ourselves. We’ve all seen a pattern begin to emerge on certain reality television shows. It seems as if they’re just casting different variations of the exact same character. So I got to thinking, if Disney were to cast a Reality TV show WHO would be cast?

So we have to start with the grandaddy Reality TV show of them all, Survivor.  Who are the “characters” of survivor?

The hot girl – Esmeralda – With her smoldering blue eyes, black hair, and perfect figure there are few chicks quite as hot as sassy Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The guy who is in amazing shape – Hercules. There’s no denying that Hercules “perfect package packs a pair of pretty pecs”. A decent, if somewhat clueless guy, who is a easy on the eyes.

The country boy -‘Mater – There’s always one endearing country-boy type whose personality makes you just want to eat ’em up. ‘Mater is definitely our guy.

The natural beauty – Pocahontas – There’s always one girl on Survivor who you are amazed looks so beautiful after 32 days of not bathing, not shaving armpits, and not brushing their teeth. That would have to be Pocahontas!

The really mean back-stabbing girl – Cruella De Vil –  While being perfectly nice to Anita’s face, Cruella is busily plotting how to get her own way behind her back. She’ll do anything to win, including stealing.

The schemer – Jafar – The schemer’s plan is always the same, cozy up to the groups leaders with a specific mission in mind, to destroy them and take their power. Who does this better than Jafar?

The delusional guy- Mike Wazowski- Mike fancies himself part of the power-team, the one who directs Sully on how to be the best, but the magazine front reveals whose really in charge.

The old person – Carl Fredrickson – On every Survivor there is a person who looks frail and too old to be on the show, but ends up being a real trooper and adventure seeker.

The “Alpha” male – Mr. Incredible (young) – He’s tough, he’s strong, he’s got it going on. Every guy wants to be him and every girl wants to be with him. He’s the alpha!

The honest/nice person – Simba – The one we root for because they’re just so nice. They want to win but they don’t want to have to be someone their not, or lie, to do it. They’ll never be the evil one, its just not in them.

The super annoying guy – Kuzco from Emperors New Groove – Is there someone more annoying than Kuzco? Be honest?!

Who do you think would be cast? Better yet, who would win?

The Florida Project at Walt Disney World Resort – Décor Details, Trading and More

The Florida Project at Walt Disney World Resort

It’s nearly time for Disney Trade Celebration 2011 – The Florida Project, the annual Disney Trading event that has been held at Epcot since 2001. I recall attending the first Disney Trading event in August 2001 while serving as a Disney Ambassador. One thing that has impressed me each year is how the event team creates a fun and immersive atmosphere for trading inside World ShowPlace. You may recall this location once served as home to Millennium Village during the year 2000. It is now used as a convention facility for many events throughout the year. I spoke with Michelle St. Laurent-Sheive, former Disney Design Group Artist turned Display and Design Manager with Park Event Operations, about what to expect from the event décor.

The Florida Project at Walt Disney World Resort

“We took about a day to think of concepts,” explained Michelle. “We used the event merchandise artwork as inspiration to create our designs that will be used inside [World ShowPlace]. One character we wanted to feature was the Orange Bird. He is such an icon from the 1970s and we know guests love him.”

The display team is creating a giant, three-dimensional Orange Bird that will be placed on the World Showcase promenade welcoming guests to the event (do I smell photo opportunity?). Michelle continued with additional details about my favorite little Disney bird.

“It will take about a week to manufacture the giant Orange Bird welcome sign,” continued Michelle. “Smaller Orange Bird cutouts will be hidden throughout the Pavilion. We think it will be a fun game for our guests to find all the Orange Birds while they are trading.”

The Florida Project Pin Trading

Trading is an essential part of this event. Similar to previous years, there will be a massive trading area for event guests to trade both Disney Pins and Vinylmation with each other. We will also offer pin trading boards, games and activities on Sept. 9-10. Guests attending the Vinylmation Showcase event on Sunday, Sept. 11, will see Vinylmation Trading. All guests (with admission to Epcot, of course) are invited to attend Public Day on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Both Disney Pin Trading and Vinylmation trading will be offered at that time.

Disney Parks Blog Author Steven Miller with The Florida Project Vinylmation and Disney Pins

Guests attending the pin trading event on Friday and Saturday only should look for specially designed pins on the trading boards. These pins were created for the event and feature the themed lands of Magic Kingdom Park. There will be a “Cast Chaser” figure introduced to the Vinylmation trading activities on Sunday. Look carefully at the photograph above to see if you can spot it. By the way, I’m sporting the awesome retro tee-shirt that is an event gift.

There are still limited spaces remaining for this weekend of trading. Please visit either DisneyPins.com or Vinylmation.com (depending upon what you collect or trade) for more information.

Events and Attractions coming to Walt Disney World Fall of 2011

Events and Attractions coming to Walt Disney World Fall of 2011

For fun-seekers with any of those passions and special interests, fall 2011 is a season to make some memories at Walt Disney World Resort. Here’s a look at what’s in store from Labor Day through Thanksgiving …

Events and Attractions coming to Walt Disney World Fall of 2011

A ‘Tropical Serenade’ rekindling memories

The Sunshine Pavilion, featuring a show variously known as “Tropical Serenade” and “The Enchanted Tiki Birds,” debuted on Oct. 1, 1971, in Magic Kingdom. In 1998, following substantial refurbishment, it re-launched as The Enchanted Tiki Room – Under New Management, with two famous Disney birds – Iago from Aladdin and Zazu from The Lion King – taking control and trying to spruce up the show.

The “new management” has been let go and the future of the Adventureland landmark is in the wings and wit of José, Fritz, Michael and Pierre – four crooning parrot hosts who ushered in sophisticated Audio-Animatronics technology at California’s Disneyland in 1963 at The Enchanted Tiki Room.

In time for fall 2011 vacations, The Enchanted Tiki Room (as the Magic Kingdom attraction now will be called) is being prepared to reflect the show at Disneyland that represents a milestone in Disney theme park entertainment. While Walt Disney’s creative team previously had produced movable figures, none had the sophistication of the bird-brained cast of the Tiki Room. José, Fritz, Michael and Pierre produce movements when solenoid coils hidden inside receive signals recorded onto magnetic tape and are regarded as the first “true” Audio-Animatronics figures.

They introduce a musical presentation by more than 200 birds, flowers and tikis. Even the audience gets into the act, joining in during the musical ditty “Let’s All Sing Like the Birdies Sing.”

The Enchanted Tiki Room reopens August 15th 2011.

The luxury accommodations (scheduled to be available beginning late fall 2011) will feature eco-friendly décor like bamboo flooring, 100-percent cotton linens and non-allergenic wrapped mattresses. Bathrooms will be equipped with rainwater showers and tea tree oil.

Some of the most popular and enduring special events at Walt Disney World Resort happen during the fall. Here are snapshots:
