Disney Cruise Line and Free Dining Rumors!

Disney Cruise Line and Free Dining Rumors!

Mark your calendars!  Disney has just given travel agents a heads up that Disney Cruise Lines will be making a big announcement on Wednesday, April 6, at 1 p.m. EDT.  Expect to hear details about pricing and the Disney Fantasy, Disney’s newest ship set to launch next spring.

Now, here’s were the rumors and speculation come in. In the email that Disney sent out to travel agents, they also told us to come back on Friday morning for more big news. We’re hearing from insiders that cast members at the call center are being offered overtime that day.  Could it mean the return of free dining for fall?  Since hold times often average 2 – 3 hours on the days that free dining is announced, Disney typically offers overtime on those days as opposed to days when a simple room-only discount is offered.  So it’s definitely looking good.

Stay tuned and as always, if you want to book early and avoid the rush, please contact Pixie Vacations at 678-815-1584 or visit us online at www.PixieVacations.com.  We’ll apply discounts as they are released to your existing reservation, saving you money and time.  And as always, Disney travel agents do not charge you for their services.

Chris writes here and at Everything Disney World. She’s also a member of the Mouse Chat podcast and a travel agent at Pixie Vacations.  Email her at [email protected] for information on a free $50 Disney gift card offer she’s offering for new bookings.

Where is your favorite place to get your grub on? The Wave
What’s your favorite snack? Soft Pretzel
You have the whole park to yourself tell us what park it would be and plan of attack? This question doesn’t tell me how long I have in the parks… Let’s assume I have a week! I would spend day one in each park from open to close and ride everything several times over. After that  a few days in the resorts and their lovely restaurants.  I would spend a night in each of the Deluxe resorts in the most expensive rooms. I think that’s it.
Least Favorite Disney Ride or Attractions? Tower of Terror only cause I am scared of it!
What’s missing from the Parks?
Kid free zones like there are on the cruises.
Which thing do you wish Disney would bring back?
Pleasure Island.

I LOVE the dining plan but I have done the most recent trips OOP.
To ADR or Not to ADR? ADR but be flexible and don’t be afraid to show up at the last minute and ask if there is an opening.
Events at the park that cost extra good idea or should be included with park admission? I think they’re should be a way to include them in the park tickets. Like Magic and More should really mean “MORE”! So if you buy regular tickets then no extra events but Magic and More means you can get into any special event you want.
When is your next trip to WDW or DL? May 9 2011 (My Birthday!)

Everything Else Disney:
What is your favorite Disney Movie? A tie between Beauty and the Beast and A Goofy Movie
Do you do any Disney Collections? A small vinylmation and Disney trinkets (snow globes, music box, wallets, paintings, etc.) collection.
Have you been on a Disney Cruise or Adventures by Disney? I just went on a cruise in February on the Dream.  If you haven’t gone on a cruise find an excuse to go!
Ever been to DLRP or TDL? Nope but it is a dream!

Finally what does Disney Mean to you? Disney means the world to me. All puns intended. Disney is my past, present and future. Disney is fun and friends and happiness. It is the freedom to feel like a kid and escape reality even if just for a little while. Disney is my past because it has been a part of my life since before I could talk. In a way Disney is my childhood and my childhood fantasies brought to life. It is a part of who I am. I don’t need an inner child. I can be a forever child at Disney. I guess that’s a silly way to put it but I mean it. Disney is my present because I keep meeting new people and making some of the best friends I’ve ever had because of our connections to Disney. Disney is also the reason I started my blog and remembered why I love writing so much. Disney is also my dream for the future. I wanted to write films and am getting my MFA in screenwriting because I was inspired by Disney movies. I’m hoping that once I get my degree I can write for Disney or be an imagineer that helps design the stories behind Disney attractions. Funny… I’ve never said that aloud before.

Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Academy Award®–nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim, and their small town of Stanleyville, discover a whole new view on what it is to love and be loved.

When young Timothy suddenly comes into the lives of Cindy and Jim Green, he is the answer to the couple’s dreams, but they have no idea that the magic he brings with him will change the way they—and everyone around them—look at love forever.

Coming Soon Again? Frankenweenie

Coming Soon Again? Frankenweenie

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.

In Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.

NOTES:

When Tim Burton originally conceived the idea for “Frankenweenie,” he envisioned it as a full-length, stop-motion animated film.Due to budget constraints, he instead directed it as a live-action short, released in 1984.
“Frankenweenie” follows in the footsteps of Tim Burton’s other stop-motion animated films “Corpse Bride” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas”—both of which were nominated for Academy Awards®.
Over 200 puppets and sets were created for the film.
The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (“Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands”), Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), Martin Short (“Mars Attacks!”) and Martin Landau (“Ed Wood,” Sleepy Hollow”).
Several of the character names—Victor, Elsa Van Helsing, Edgar “E” Gore and Mr. Burgermeister— were inspired by classic horror films.

Disney to Expand Offerings to Provide More Healthy Family-Friendly Food Options

Disney to Expand Offerings to Provide More Healthy Family-Friendly Food Options

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) today announced that it will continue its commitment to helping families eat healthier foods by expanding its produce offering to make Disney-branded produce more widely available and offer more product variety. Families can shop at grocery and national retailers for healthy options including sliced apples and Foodles by Crunch Pak and produce from Dayka Hackett and Chelan Fresh. The expansion effort will include packaging changes to the line of Disney-branded produce such as an update to the recognizable stylized green leaf bearing the Disney logo; placement of nutritional information on the front of packaging, making it easier for families to identify healthy foods; and the addition of the Disney Magic of Healthy Living logo. The packaging transition in the marketplace will be seamless and cause no disruption in product availability.

See below for more pictures.

During the next year, DCP’s produce licensees expect to launch several new and refreshed Disney-branded products that capitalize on synergistic promotional opportunities tied to Disney entertainment content and beloved characters. To facilitate the ongoing expansion, DCP will collaborate with Minneapolis, Minn.-based Golden Sun Marketing to enter into new license agreements with fresh produce growers and shippers.

“Since Disney announced landmark nutritional guidelines associating Disney brands and characters with a more nutritionally balanced range of foods, we have helped bring more than one billion servings of fruits and vegetables to children and parents looking for healthy food choices,” said John King, director of food for DCP. “By forging relationships directly with leading suppliers and growers, we’re one step ahead in building on this strong foundation. We’re reaching even more families through an expanded product offering with the positive message of eating more fruits and vegetables.”

Disney understands the challenges faced by parents in regard to their family’s nutrition and wants to be part of the solution. In 2006, Disney announced new food guidelines aimed at giving parents and children healthier eating options. Under these guidelines, Disney committed to using its name and characters on kid-focused food products that meet specific criteria, including limits on calories, fat, saturated fat and sugar. The guidelines also included a long-term target for balancing the licensed food portfolio such that 85% will be everyday foods with the smaller 15% comprised of special-occasion treats. DCP has achieved this goal in North America.

As part of its ongoing effort to promote healthier lifestyles and nutrition for kids and families, Disney announced last September the Magic of Healthy Living — a national multimedia initiative designed to help parents with their quest to raise healthy, happy kids. The initiative, which included public service announcements featuring First Lady Michelle Obama and young Disney stars, builds on Disney’s commitment to a healthier generation of kids.

Disney Cruise Line Releases Annual Community Report

Disney Cruise Line Releases Annual Community Report

Recently Disney Cruise Line released its 2010 Community Report, highlighting the many ways it is actively involved in making a difference in the port communities it frequents – from Europe to the Caribbean.  The report showcases how Disney Cruise Line is giving back to communities around the world, practicing environmental stewardship and fostering an inclusive workplace for its cast and crew members.

Special Disney memories were created in some of the world’s most remarkable destinations where Disney ships traveled in 2010.  Many children personally experienced the magic of Disney for the first time when beloved Disney characters visited hospitals and schools throughout Europe.  The children’s ward at a hospital in Barcelona now features a larger-than-life mural of Disney characters, painted by more than 300 guests and shipboard volunteers when the Disney Magic spent a summer season in Europe.

In Papenburg, Germany, where the line’s first new ship in more than a decade was recently built, Disney, together with the Meyer Werft shipyard, placed a high focus on energy efficiency during construction.  As a result the Disney Dream came online this past January with some of the most energy efficient equipment in the industry.  Utilizing new technologies and minimizing waste continues to be a focus as Disney Cruise Line moves forward with its historic business expansion and completes construction of sister ship Disney Fantasy in early 2012.

Additional highlights from the report include:

Community Outreach
The cast and crew of Disney Cruise Line take great pride in giving back to many port communities around the world.  This tradition of community service has long been a hallmark of the company culture. More than 3,200 children were visited by Disney characters in Disney Cruise Line ports of call last year.

  • As part of a special summer season in Europe, crew members aboard the Disney Magic shared time with more than 1,400 children in 14 different countries across 22 ports of call.
  • More than 550 wish trips were granted to children faced with life-threatening medical conditions.
  • More than 300 Disney Magic guests joined shipboard crew in completing a larger-than-life, hand-painted mural of beloved Disney characters in partnership with the Foundation for Hospital Art.  The finished piece brightened a children’s ward at a hospital in Barcelona.

The Environment
Disney Cruise Line is dedicated to minimizing our impact on the environment through efforts focused on utilizing new technologies, increasing fuel efficiency, minimizing waste and promoting conservation worldwide.  The line strives to instill positive environmental stewardship in cast and crew members, and seeks to inspire others through programs that engage guests and the communities in Disney’s ports of call.

  • Annual shore cleanups by cast and crew members have removed more than 33,000 pounds of trash and debris from entering fragile waterways.
  • Shipboard recycling processes eliminate more than 405 tons of recyclables, including metals, plastics and paper, from traditional waste streams annually.
  • Disney Cruise Line contributed generously to community organizations that focus on helping children and families and supporting the natural environment across 31 different communities in the ports we call home.
  • Disney Cruise Line made energy efficiency a high priority when constructing the Disney Dream.  As a result, the ship has some of the most energy-efficient equipment in the cruise industry, as well as several notable industry firsts, such as smart technology that self-adjusts temperatures throughout the ship.

The Workplace
Disney Cruise Line is committed to providing workplaces that foster safety, inclusion and respect both on land and at sea.

  • Shipboard and shoreside Disney VoluntEARS devoted more than 4,500 hours of their personal time to assist nonprofit groups in Central Florida, The Bahamas, the Caribbean and Europe.
  • Since safety of guests and crew members is of the utmost importance, all crew members must take part in comprehensive ongoing training.  In 2010, crew members participated in more than 232,000 hours of safety training.

The Community Report represents the latest phase in Disney’s longstanding heritage of corporate social responsibility and reflects a company-wide effort to build an integrated, transparent strategy that focuses on serving the needs of primary stakeholders, including guests, cast and crew members, shareholders, business partners and local communities.

As part of The Walt Disney Company’s consolidated corporate responsibility report, the Disney Cruise Line Community Report reflects activities between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010.  To view the complete 2010 Disney Cruise Line report, please visit:  http://community.disneycruisenews.com/.
