All New Chip and Company Website is now live

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. The All New Chip and Company Website is now complete!

While many people loved the old site there was a lot of information to digest on the main page and makes it hard to figure out where to start first. Hopefully with the new layout you will be able to find the best in Park News, Planning Tips, and Giveaways much easier.

There are still some minor tweaks I need to do to the site just to get things looking the way I want them to.

Overall I hope everyone likes the new layout and that you will come back often for the best in Disney News & Views!

Disney suing Dish Network

Disney suing Dish Network

Walt Disney Co. is suing Dish Network for copyright violations and Starz Entertainment is also suing Dish for breach of contract.

Disney argues that the agreement with Dish and Starz was to show movies to premium members only with Starz access like “Toy Story 3” and “Alice in Wonderland”.  Dish has been providing free access to Starz until January 2012 in a recent promotion starting in February.  Both Disney and Starz had written to ask Dish to stop their Starz promotion, but Dish refused.

“Dish Network pays hundreds of millions of dollars for the right to distribute Starz content to our customers, which includes the rights to a number of Disney movies,” the company said in a statement.

Most of the Starz movies are from Disney and Sony Pictures.  Sony is not suing at this time.

Ask a Disney Question: Can I Apply Discounts after I Book?

Ask a Disney Question: Can I Apply Discounts after I Book?

Today, Amanda asked this question on Facebook:

Hi – I have a quick question — I have a friend who will be planning a trip to Disney World in November– if she books now, and then a “better” deal comes along later, such as free dining, room discounts etc, would she be able to modify her reservation? Or does she have to have a Disney Visa to do that? Thanks!!

Amanda, you can always modify your reservation to add a new code, which is why most travel agents advise clients to make their reservations early and then wait on discounts.  You can apply the discount without penalty 45-days prior to travel with packages or a week prior with room-only reservations. If you apply your discount under these time periods, you’ll pay a change fee, however it’s only $50 and you’ll almost always be saving more than that.

Your travel agent should keep up with these codes and apply the ones that work for you automatically–in other words, you shouldn’t have to chase them down and let them know that you’d like to apply the code. If you’re booking on your own, it’s definitely worth your while to keep up with when Disney releases discounts.  When they do, just call  Disney and have them applied to your existing reservation.  It’s particularly important to call the first day for certain promotions, such as free dining, which tend to sell out very quickly.

Thanks your reading the site and participating on Facebook; we appreciate it.

Chris writes here and at Everything Walt Disney  World. She’s also a travel agent with Pixie Vacations and a member of the Mouse Chat Podcast. Write her at [email protected] for information on how you can get a free Disney gift card when you book your next vacation.

Marvel’s The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Comic Creator Contest Gives Kids a Chance to Have Their Own Comic Appear in a Marvel Adventures Comic Book

Marvel’s The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Comic Creator Contest Gives Kids a Chance to Have Their Own Comic Appear in a Marvel Adventures Comic Book

Starting in May, kids are invited to show off their creativity in Marvel The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Comic Creator Contest.   One grand prize winner will get their comic featured as an insert in an upcoming Marvel Adventures comic book and five finalists will win a fantastic Thor prize pack. To enter, kids can go to Disney.com/Create to design their own comic and then save and share it online for a chance to win.

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Comic Creator app on Disney.com/Create lets kids tell their own story by adding characters, backgrounds and dialogue to a series of comic book panels.  Kids can also use a variety of unique drawing tools to create their own characters and scenes, just like a real comic book artist.

To help kids find their inner artist, two exclusive videos featuring Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada will be featured on the site. In the first video, Quesada offers insights into what it means to be creative, where his inspiration comes from, and his advice for young artists. The second video gives kids an over-the-shoulder view of Quesada drawing Marvel’s Thor character, in a time lapse video that showcases the artistic process.

The contest ends May 31, 2011 and official rules can be found here.

All Was Revealed May the 4th… Star Wars: The Complete Saga On Blu-ray

All Was Revealed May the 4th... Star Wars: The Complete Saga On Blu-ray

For weeks fans of the Force were teased by a countdown micro-site on maythe4th.starwars.com. Nearing the impending reveal, the website crashed due to the tremendous traffic of millions of rabid Star Wars fans. What was revealed was a killer trailer featuring behind the scenes footage from all six of the live-action feature films and ways that site visitors could share the site via social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. After sharing the site you would be able to unlock certain clips using what the site calls “Infinite Zoom Technology”.  The more you share, the more you can see –  a brilliant marketing/advertising concept!

All Was Revealed May the 4th... Star Wars: The Complete Saga On Blu-ray

Here’s info from a press release regarding Star Wars: The Complete Saga:

Bring home the adventure and share Star Warswith your whole family — when STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA comes to Blu-ray Disc from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment! To be released beginning on September 12 internationally and on September 16 in North America, the nine-disc collection brings the wonder of the entire Saga direct to your living room, where you can revisit all of your favorite Star Wars moments — in gorgeous high definition and with pristine, 6.1 DTS Surround Sound. Dive deeper into the universe with an unprecedented 40+ hours of special features, highlighted by never-before-seen content sourced from the Lucasfilm archives.

The comprehensive collection also features numerous deleted, extended and alternate scenes, new documentaries and a cross-section of the countless Star Wars spoofs that have appeared in pop culture over the past three decades. Marking the first time ever that the full Saga is available in one complete collection, STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA ON BLU-RAY also features a coveted peek into the making of the Saga with vintage documentaries, audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, prop and costume turnarounds, retrospectives and more.

Episodes I-III and IV-VI will also be available as distinct Blu-ray Trilogy collections.

Fans will get an exclusive first look at some of the collection’s extensive special features at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International — which marks Lucasfilm’s 35th anniversary as a Comic-Con presence. In 1976, the fledgling film company was looking for innovative, grass-roots ways to promote its underdog release, a film no one expected to succeed — a space opera known (at the time) only as Star Wars. One of the first film companies to reach out directly to core audiences by way of fan conventions, Lucasfilm will return to the venue to showcase the full evolution of the epic story with a special first look at STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA ON BLU-RAY.
