Scripts Ready For Star Wars Live Action Show

George Lucas and C-3PO
George Lucas and C-3PO

Recent reports mention that George Lucas has over two seasons of scripts already written for a live-action Star Wars television series set in-between Episodes III and IV. Information about this show has been making rounds for the past four years including casting rumors, pre-production and a supposed air date.

In a recent interview on G4-TV Lucas mentions that the ambitious project has been shelved for the time being until it’s more affordable to produce. Lucas says that ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) are working on ways to make special effects that cost film makers $200 million to produce cost around $60 million. That would greatly effect future films but the way television shows are produced.

George Lucas has revolutionized the way people think about independent film with the release of Star Wars, 3D film technology with Captain EO, animation with the weekly series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and raised the bar with 3D attractions like Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. It seems that he is now working on another game changer that’s aimed at prime time.

I, like many of you, anxiously await this new era.

2 Disney Legends Die within days of eachother

2 Disney Legends Die within days of eachother

Betty Taylor, who played Slue Foot Sue in Disney’s long-running Golden Horseshoe Revue, passed away Saturday – one day after the death of Wally Boag, who played her character’s sweetheart, Pecos Bill.

The 91-year-old Taylor died at her home in Washington state, Disneyland announced on its web site. Boag, who was 90, died Friday. He was a resident of Santa Monica, California.

The causes of death were not announced and attempts to contact relatives for comment were not immediately successful.

“Betty’s role as leading lady in Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe Revue helped turn it into the longest-running stage show in entertainment history,” George Kalogridis, the president of Disneyland Resort, said in a statement. “It is a tragic coincidence that her passing comes just one day after the death of longtime co-star Wally Boag.”

Boag, a former vaudeville performer, signed a two-week contract with Walt Disney in 1955. He originated the role of Pecos Bill in the revue, taking the stage three times a day and logging nearly 40,000 performances before retiring in 1982.

Most of those shows were alongside Taylor, who joined the revue a year after Hoag. Her run on the show – which closed in 1986 – lasted nearly 45,000 performances.

The Golden Horseshoe Revue is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest running stage production in show biz history.

Chip’s Magic Kingdom Touring Plan

Chip’s Magic Kingdom Touring Plan

I get a lot of questions and emails on Chip and Company asking me the best ways to tour the parks. I wanted to share with you my Magic Kingdom Touring Plan to help make your Disney World Vacation more enjoyable. I posted this last week on Couponing to Disney and thought it would be great to share it here too!

Get there Early

I like to get to the park at rope drop or plan an early breakfast at Crystal Palace to grab some photos of the park before all the people come in.

Quick Tip – Be sure to make your Disney Advanced Dining Reservation far enough in advanced for the Crystal Palace, ask for seating before the park opens for some spectacular photos of yourself and your family on Main Street USA.

And were off

Once Disney drops the rope I have noticed most people are making a mad dash towards 3 rides.

  • Space Mountain
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Thunder Mountain

I myself am guilty of being one of those people way back when. I would hurry off and try to ride Space Mountain atleast 3 times before I did anything else.

First Stop: Fantasyland

Over the years I have learned when you get into the park the first place you want to go is Fantasyland, especially with kids. You walk into Fantasyland on any day around noon and it will be PACKED! So we have always made it a point to hit up the rides in Fantasyland first.

Start on the Peterpan side and work your way clockwise towards Tomorrowland. We usually just go from ride to ride with no wait time.

Quick Tip – Wait on Mickey Phillharmagic till later in the day when you need a break and want to sit down for awhile. There is plenty of room so there is no need to rush it.

Onward to Tomorrow

By the time you are done in Fantasyland most the people who ran to Tomorrowland first are done and moving onto new locations. So there is usually a decline in people for a short period. This is your chance to check out Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Astro Orbiter, Tomorrowland Speedway, etc.

Quick Tip – Hold off on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. I find this ride is the best later in the afternoon or around dusk with all the neon in Tomorrowland islit up.

Journey to Adventure

At this point most of the people who slept in late are arriving to the park and they are going towards Fantasyland or Tomorrowland which means this is the best time to attack Adventureland.

Ride the Jungle Boats, Carpets, Pirates, etc. The lines should be short but the day is starting to heat up. This would be a great time for a Dole Whip!

Quick Tip – Wait on the Swiss Family Treehouse as we will get to this ride later in the day since it is just a walk through anyway.

Give us Liberty

Most people think at this point I would head up to Frontierland and hit up Thunder & Splash Mountain since we are so close, but they would be wrong. We take a short detour through Liberty Square and hit the Haunted Mansion and the Hall of Presidents. This is also a good time to have lunch at a few of my favorites Liberty Tree Tavern, Peco Bill’s or Sleepy Hollow for a snack.

Or if your not eating lunch and want a Disney Snack that is more like a meal you can get a Turkey Leg right on the edge of Frontierland.

The Final Frontier

Now is the time to head over to Frontierland and visit the Mountains – Thunder and Splash. Head out to Tom Sawyer Island to work off that lunch. If you have a little one there is a play area right underneath the Walt Disney World Railroad. Hang out here after you are done with the rides in the area till the train comes. There is also a great place to charge your cell phone near the Play area.

Quick Tip – There are bathrooms here as well so if you need to go this is a great pit stop location.

Riding the Rail

We like to take the train around Walt Disney World at this point and head back to the entrance of Disney World.

Time to Relax & Take in a Show

After you are done riding the rail head back to Fantasyland and check out Mickey’s Phillharmagic. Usually from there we Ride the Tomorrowland Transit and Carousel of Progress, etc stuff where we can sit down and relax. Most times my feet are tired at this point so taking in the shows seems to help restore my used up energy. Here are some tips of re-energizing.

Walk to Adventureland and do the Tree House and Tiki Room (when it opens). Along with any other shows you want to do.

This is also a good time to check out a parade or any other shows you might have missed. I like using this website WDW Info during my planning to give me an idea when and where the shows are.

Ride Rinse Repeat

You have done just about everything in the park by now. This is when you whip out your smart phone and bring up my favorite tool – Lines from Touring Plans.com. Check wait times on rides you may want to ride again.

Time to Eat

So we like to take a early dinner. Most times we are going to leave the park and visit one of the Resorts. This would be a good time to do that. You could always leave and hit another park, go back to the room to freshen up, or if you are really hardcore go back through my Plan of Attack all over again.

Parades & Fireworks

Usually by the time we leave for dinner and come back it is starting to get dark, there is where you will try to find a good seat for one of the nighttime parades and shows. If you are a little early you can always window shop on Main Street till it gets closer to the time.

Check out my past article Best Fireworks Viewing Locations at Walt Disney World for an idea on where you want to sit.

Extra Evening Magic Hour

I love Extra Magic Hours especially in the evening. Most times the park starts out crowded then they seem to dwindle down to nothing. I can remember being at WDW at 3am one time..It was fabulous!

As far as an attack plan goes during EMH I usually go clockwise around the Park. We usually walk a little slower and take in being in the Magic Kingdom at Night. I love all the lights and sounds of being there after dark!

There you have it

Well there is my Magic Kindgom Touring Plan. There are tons of books out there that charge big bucks for what I just gave you for free. If you have any suggestions of want to share with us your Touring Plan let us know in the comment section below.

Top 5 Disneyland Attractions I Would Like to See at Disney World

Top 5 Disneyland Attractions I Would Like to See at Disney World

While Disneyland and Disney World share many of the same attractions, there are several that are unique to each resort. Even though I’m a frequent visitor to Walt Disney World, Disneyland’s history and fantastic attractions hold a lot of appeal for me; and there are several attractions at Disneyland that I wish I didn’t have to fly all the way to the West Coast to see. So check out my Top 5 list of Disneyland Attractions I Would Like to See at Disney World!

1. Indiana Jones Adventure-This attraction looks awesome! You board a transport that sounds similiar to that you find at Animal Kingdom’s Dinosaur and venture into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye where Indiana Jones has disappeared! You will encounter giant snakes, lava, and booby traps on your thrilling, action-packed adventure! While I enjoy the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Hollywood Studios, this just sounds awesome; and I can’t help but think Animal Kingdom could use something like this. Do you agree?

2. Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular-This Broadway-style show performed by live actors is located at Disney’s California Adventure and is truly spectacular! Disney employs puppetry, dancing, sets, and some incredible sights and effects, such as when Aladdin and Jasmine fly over the audience on a magic carpet and Aladdin parades into Agrabah via elephant through the theater aisles. Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular sounds amazing and I would definitely want to see this at Disney World!

3. Disney Animation-I know Hollywood Studios in Disney World has a Magic of Disney Animation attraction at Animation Courtyard; but Disneyland’s is on a whole other level with incredible detail, design, and special effects! Disney Animation at the California Adventure is like a whole pavilion containing different areas. My favorite is the Sorcerer’s Workshop, an interactive, immersive environment, where you visit Ursula’s Grotto, the Beast’s Library, and the medieval, Magic Mirror Realm! If Disney World ever decides to renovate their Disney Animation attraction, I would suggest taking some notes from Disneyland’s!

4. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage-I miss the original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction that used to be in Fantasyland at Disney World; and I am thrilled that Disneyland has found a way to update theirs to suit today’s audiences. Located in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, this attraction takes you under the sea to investigate an erupting undersea volcano! Along the way, there are many sights to see, including characters from Finding Nemo. I wish there was some way that Disney World can experience a classic attraction with a Pixar twist!

5. Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough-This attraction actually lets you climb winding staircases and wander inside Sleeping Beauty Castle! Awesome, right? Who wouldn’t want to venture inside a castle? Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough lets you experience the story of Sleeping Beauty through artwork and special effects. I think this would make a really cool attraction at Disney World, but maybe with characters and audio-animatronics added in and a Cinderella twist of course. I know I would definitely wait to see it!

So what do you think? What Disneyland attractions would you like to see at Disney World? Do you think Disney World could use some of these attractions?

Chip & Company Week in Review, June 6, 2011

As always, when it comes to Disney news and views, your writers at Chip & Company have been quite busy reporting to you all the news related to Disney!  If you missed some of it, please take a look at some of these articles that came down last week!

  • Our own Aljon had a chance to sit down and chat with Vanessa Marano, star of ‘Switched at Birth’.  If you missed the interview, check it out!
  • Raise your hand if you are interested in getting one of the Mermaid Makeovers at the Pirate’s League!  (Chip, put your hand down!)  This news story came to us from Wendy, but you’ve only got until July 2nd, so you better hurry.  Thanks Wendy!
  • Jennifer has a review of the Disney Food Blog Guide to Walt Disney World Dining!  Who doesn’t love to eat at Disney?
  • Mel writes to us about the wheelchair accessible ride vehicles you can find at the Magic Kingdom.  This is great information to have if you are unable to transfer out of your wheelchair.
  • Before Jodi wrote her piece, “The Magic, The Memories, and…Wishes”, I never knew how many fireworks went into one showing of Wishes!  Thanks for all of that great information, Jodi!
  • Did you read Kristen’s piece about “The Captain Jack Sparrow Handbook”?  If not, click the link!  It’s a must have for any pirate or pirate wanna-be!
  • Our friend Anonymouse wrote to us last week about the Mission Tortilla Factory, or more importantly, about what is going to replace it!
  • This just in!  Now you can get your very own Chip & Company T-Shirts!  For all of my fellow writers, there is no truth to the rumor that we each need to buy one in order to keep writing for Chip & Company!
  • Are you about to embark on a trip to Disneyland?  Then take a look at the refurbishment schedule for June 2011!
  • And last, but certainly not least, for the Disney World crowd, never fear, here’s the refurbishment schedule for WDW for June 2011.  I’d better re-read that, since we’ll be heading that way in just a little while!

In addition to all of the news, of course we have our views of the things that make Walt Disney great.  Here are just a few of the ones that we had last week!

  • One of our newer writers is Savannah, who wrote a nice piece about her “Top 5 underrated Walt Disney World Restaurants”. Do her top 5 match your top 5?
  • Our friend Steve from Pixie Vacations visited Disneyland Paris, and has a series of articles.  One neat one that I liked was his review of Disney’s Hotel NY.
  • Do you struggle with finding ways to bring the Magic home with you?  Do you like cookies?  If the answer to both of those questions is yes, Melissa just might have found a possible solution for you in her “In the Disney Kitchen” piece!

I hope you have enjoyed this week’s Week in Review from Chip & Company.  If you ever need any additional information, you can feel free to post your question on Facebook, Tweet us @chipandcompany, or even email us!  Each of us has a Chip & Company email address which is the same address as the name of the writer.  For example, my address is [email protected]!  Have a great week!

Photo and Fun Facts from The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

Photo and Fun Facts from The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure opens to guests on June 3, 2011, at Disney California Adventure park. This whimsical underwater adventure begins when guests board pastel-colored clamshell vehicles and head “under the sea” to visit Ariel and her friends in a musical retelling of the classic motion picture. During this immersive experience, guests will see the Little Mermaid falling in love, getting her legs, losing her voice and winning the prince as the best-loved musical numbers bring the attraction to life all around them.

  • This is the first Disney ride-through attraction that takes you “under the sea” with Ariel, Prince Eric, Sebastian and Ursula, with music and scenes from “The Little Mermaid” film.
  • Nearly 200 Audio-Animatronics figures perform in the attraction. The Under the Sea scene alone has 128 figures, including 50 spinning starfish.
  • Ursula is the largest Audio-Animatronics figure in the show at 7½-feet tall and 12-feet wide. She also has a squash-and-stretch function in her torso and flexible materials so she can bounce along with the music.
  • An 86-foot long, hand-painted mural greets guests in the loading area of the attraction. The mural depicts many of the characters guests will see within the attraction including Prince Eric, King Triton, Sebastian, Flounder and, of course, Ariel.
  • The attraction was created by a team of talented Imagineers and consultants including Senior Show Producer Lisa Girolami, Creative Director/Show Designer Larry Nikolai, and Frank Antonides, director of project management – all from Walt Disney Imagineering – along with Chris Crump, production and show designer, and Danny Troob, musical arranger and orchestrator.
  • The attraction building was inspired by the Dragon Gorge scenic railway at the long-gone Ocean Park amusement zone in Southern California.
  • The building’s façade features a statue of King Triton and relief carvings of six frolicking mermaids. The mermaids are Ariel’s older sisters: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella, and Alana.
  • The Palace of Fine Arts rotunda, originally the entrance to the former “Golden Dreams” attraction, has been incorporated into The Little Mermaid attraction architecture and is now part of the entrance façade.
  • A special skin technology had to be incorporated into the Audio-Animatronics figures for Ariel, King Triton and Ursula since they have so much skin exposed.
  • The attraction features an Omnimover ride system pioneered by Walt Disney Imagineers in the 1960s and used for the “Doom Buggies” of the Haunted Mansion, as well as in Adventures Through Inner Space, formerly in Tomorrowland.
  • Attraction vehicles are sculpted multi-colored, pastel clamshells.
  • The attraction experience is approximately 5½ minutes from the time guests load the clamshell to the time they exit the clamshell.
  • Music in the queue features an orchestral medley of songs from the film.
  • Songs from the original film written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are featured in the attraction: “Part of Your World,” “Kiss the Girl,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and the Academy Award winning “Under the Sea.” Guests will recognize the voices of Jodi Benson (Ariel) and Pat Carroll (Ursula).
  • The Little Mermaid feature film debuted November 15, 1989, and the film won Academy Awards for Best Song, “Under the Sea,” and Best Original Score.
  • The Little Mermaid was the first Disney film based on a classic fairy tale since Sleeping Beauty three decades earlier.
  • Imagineers working on the attraction consulted with Ariel’s animator in the film, Glen Keane, who recommended that her hair be treated as a character all its own.
  • Each scene of the attraction was first built as a one-quarter-inch scale model and then as a one?inch scale model, so Imagineers could “ride” through the attraction scene-by-scene before full construction began.
  • The attraction concludes with a surprise ending that takes us beyond the ending of the film.
  • A similar version of the attraction is scheduled to open in the new Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
