Consumers are invited to experience Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story,” “Toy Story 2” and “Toy Story 3” in an all-new way! All three groundbreaking films will be unveiled in stunning Blu-ray 3D for the home, allowing fans to go back inside the toy box and enjoy their favorite characters in a whole new dimension.

Toy Story

Set in a world where toys come to life when people are not present, meet two rival toys – Woody, a pull-string talking cowboy, and Buzz Lightyear, a superhero space action-figure. The comically-mismatched duo eventually learn to put aside their differences when circumstances separate them from their owner, Andy, and they find themselves on a hilarious adventure-filled mission where the only way they can survive is to form an uneasy alliance.

Toy Story 2

While Andy is away at cowboy camp, Woody is toynapped by Al McWhiggin, a greedy collector who needs Andy’s favorite toy to complete his “Woody’s Roundup” collection. Together with Jessie, Bullseye and the Prospector, Woody is on his way to amuseum where he’ll spend the rest of his life behind glass. It’s up to Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Rex and Slinky Dog to rescue their friend and remind him what being a toy is all about.

Toy Story 3

Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future. When a mix-up lands them at Sunnyside Daycare, the untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it’s all for one and one for all as plans for the great escape get underway. More than a few new faces – some plastic, some plush – join the adventure, including Barbie’s counterpart, Ken, a thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants, and a strawberry-scented teddy bear called Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear.

Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Little Mermaid Will Make 3D Theatrical Debut in 2012 and 2013

Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Little Mermaid Will Make 3D Theatrical Debut in 2012 and 2013

On the heels of the phenomenal success of The Lion King 3D– which will cross the $80 million mark at the domestic box office today – The Walt Disney Studios has announced limited theatrical engagements for four of its classic films for the first time in 3D. The following titles from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios will be released in 2012 and 2013:

* Beauty and the Beast – January 13, 2012
* Disney•Pixar’s Finding Nemo – September 14, 2012
* Disney•Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. – January 18, 2013 (Monsters University, a prequel to the original film, arrives in theaters in Disney Digital 3D on June 21, 2013)
* The Little Mermaid – September 13, 2013

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” said Alan Bergman, President, The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”

Originally released in 1991, Beauty and the Beast is a classic “tale as old as time” that follows the adventures of Belle, a bright young woman imprisoned in the castle of a mysterious beast and his enchanted staff, who must learn the most important lesson of all – that true beauty comes from within. Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Picture, earning an additional five Oscar® nominations and winning two. It has grossed $380.4 million worldwide.

First released in 2003, Disney•Pixar’s Finding Nemo takes audiences into a whole new world in this undersea adventure about family, courage and challenges. When Marlin, an overly cautious clownfish living in the Great Barrier Reef, helplessly watches his son get scooped up by a diver, he must put aside his fears of the ocean and leave the safety of his coral enclave to find Nemo. Buoyed by the companionship of Dory, a forgetful but relentlessly optimistic fish, Marlin finds himself the unlikely hero in a seemingly impossible land-and-sea rescue. Finding Nemo won an Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for three others. With a total of $867.6 million worldwide, it was the second highest-grossing film of 2003.

In 2001, Disney•Pixar released Monsters, Inc. Lovable Sulley and his wisecracking sidekick Mike Wazowski are the top scare team at Monsters, Inc., the scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. But when a little girl named Boo wanders into their world, it’s up to Sulley and Mike to keep her out of sight and get her back home. Monsters, Inc. shattered every DVD-era home entertainment sales record when 11 million DVD/VHS copies were sold during its first week of release. It won an Academy Award® for Best Song and has grossed $526.9 million worldwide.

Released in 1989, The Little Mermaid, stars Ariel, a fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, off on the adventure of a lifetime with her best friend, the adorable Flounder, and the reggae-singing Caribbean crab Sebastian. But it will take all of her courage and determination to make her dreams come true and save her father’s beloved kingdom from the sneaky sea witch Ursula. One of the most celebrated animated films of all time, The Little Mermaid was nominated for three Academy Awards®, winning two. It has grossed $228.9 million worldwide.

The Lion King Diamond Edition is a classic Walk on the Wild Side!

The Lion King Diamond Edition is a classic Walk on the Wild Side!

“‘The Lion King’ is the best-selling home entertainment release of all time—and this is ‘The Lion King’ like never before,” said Bob Chapek, president of distribution, The Walt Disney Studios. “The all-new 3D format immerses viewers in the epic settings and puts them face-to-face with these beloved characters. We’re showcasing one of the all-time favorite Disney movies in theaters and making it available in Blu-ray hi-def and in Blu-ray 3D—it’s the must-see, must-own title for everyone.”  The Blu-ray debut marks the first time “The Lion King” has been available in any form since 2004.  Featuring pristine high definition picture and sound, the Blu-ray creates an incredible at-home experience with a host of picture and sound enhancements, interactive features and bonus content, including a new set of hilarious animated bloopers.

If you had the chance to see The Lion King in 3D during its current run back in theatres, I don’t have to tell you what a great representation of one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time it was! I am not the greatest fan of upconverting to 3D (or to be honest, of the 3D trend in general) but there were scenes that really wowed me! Particularly the Circle of Life and the more dramatic fight scenes.  There is so much nostalgia when seeing movie you loved as a kid in the theatre again that its hard to believe they could have done anything to the movie I wouldn’t have loved.  Nonetheless, the Blu Ray 3D coming out on Tuesday, October 4 will not disappoint!

As we have reported earlier there will be many versions to choose from, including:

  • 4-Disc Blu-ray  3D Combo Pack
  • 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack
  • 8-Disc Trilogy (featuring Blu-ray  and DVD of The Lion King, The Lion King 1 1/2, and The Lion King 2, as well as the 3D Blu-ray and a digital copy of The Lion King.
  • 1-disc DVD Edition (available on November 15)

Besides the new Disney Second Screen app sync, Sneak Peaks, Sing-a-long, and audio commentary that you can find on most new Disney Blu Ray releases, The Lion King is filled with tons of bonus content! The deleted and alternate scenes include the “Morning Report” number starring Zazu which was first released on the Platinum Edition DVD. You can also see a very cute blooper reel of out takes and a Don Hahn memoir.  The best featurette seems to be the Pride of The Lion King which is a really well done retrospective about the legacy of The Lion King. It runs almost 40 minutes and was by far the best featurette of all the bonus content!

Don’t miss this amazing film as it roars onto Blu-ray format for the first time TODAY!

Participants Receiving Instruction from Olympic Track Coach Brooks Johnson as well as Training Consultant Jeff Galloway

Several runners got the experience of a lifetime during our “Meet Up, Eat Up” at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon this past weekend.

Participant Receiving Instruction from Olympic Track Coach Brooks Johnson

On a beautiful Friday morning as the sun had just begun to rise, the 25 participants received personalized instruction from renowned Olympic track coach Brooks Johnson as well as runDisney training consultant Jeff Galloway on the track at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, where Brooks trains several Olympic medalists. Once they had their strides fine-tuned, they were led on a short training run by two-time Wine & Dine Half Marathon winner Anton Van Zyl and last year’s women’s winner Melissa Wisner.

Disney Chef Gary Jones and Chef Mickey Mouse

Then, Disney Chef Gary Jones – with some playful assistance from Chef Mickey Mouse – gave the group a cooking demonstration on how to easily whip up a healthy breakfast dish. At the end, the runners were given exclusive access to the event’s Health & Fitness Expo where they got first crack at all of the merchandise, apparel and fitness products before the expo officially opened.

It was a fun way to kick off the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, which attracted more than 17,000 total runners.

Marvel Announces its Post ‘Avengers’ Movies

Marvel Announces its Post 'Avengers' Movies

Last week, I posted our first look at ‘The Avengers’ from Entertainment Weekly. The article had some great interviews of the cast for Marvel’s epic crossover film, and really gave some insight into the insight of filming this massive film was like. But there was something even more interesting lurking in a side panel inside the article, and that was the announcement of what five of Marvel’s next films will be. Two are very expected, but the other three are quite surprising, and has gotten me really excited with where the studio is going.

Blu-ray Review: Dumbo- The 70th Anniversary Edition

Blu-ray Review: Dumbo- The 70th Anniversary Edition

From Walt Disney Studios:
In celebration of this landmark film’s 70th anniversary, experience the daring adventures of the world’s only flying elephant with a dazzling all-new digital restoration and brilliant Disney Enhanced High Definition  Theatre Mix Sound. The inspirational tale of Dumbo, the courageous baby elephant who uses his sensational ears to soar to fame with the help of his clever best friend Timothy Q. Mouse, will thrill and delight audiences of all ages. And now, the award-winning music and empowering messages about friendship and belief in yourself reach new heights in this must-have Blu-ray high definition presentation of Walt Disney’s classic Dumbo!

I was really excited to have the chance to review Dumbo. I attended a web conference where Disney discussed the amount of time and effort that went into restoring this classic film. After watching Dumbo on Blu-ray I can say that all of that hard work paid off. This film looks beautiful. I also watched the movie using the Disney View feature which places paintings next to the film instead of the black bars. I thought it would be distracting but Disney did such a great job matching the paintings to what is happening in the movie that it enhanced the film for me. You can also choose to listen to the original audio of the film or the new Disney Enhanced Home Theater mix.

There are several bonus features on the Blu-ray edition. There is a deleted scene or sequence that was pieced together from drawings from the Disney archives as well as a song that was left out of the original film. I really enjoyed Taking Flight – The Making of Dumbo. It examines how the film came together and the craftmanship of the early Disney animators with current Disney animators, producers, and historians. They also discuss Walt Disney, the history surrounding the project, and what was happening at Walt Disney Studios at the time that Dumbo was being made. If you don’t watch any other bonus feature, I highly recommended taking the time to watch this one. Other bonus features include The Magic of Dumbo: A Ride of Passage, audio commentary with Pete Doctor, Paula Sigman, and Andreas Deja, and the original Walt Disney Television introduction.
I am so happy that Disney is taking the time to preserve and restore classic Disney films. The Blu-ray edition of Dumbo is worth adding to your Disney film collection

Yo Ho! It’s Jake & the Neverland Pirates DVD Review

Yo Ho! It's Jake & the Neverland Pirates DVD Review

With the temps dropping here in NC and my family and I staying inside all weekend I had a chance to catch up on some DVD’s & Blurays I been meaning to watch and review.

There are a few Disney Channel/Junior Cartoons that I really love. Phineas & Ferb, Fish Hooks, and of course Jake & the Neverland Pirates!

My daughter and I both had the chance to sit down and check out this DVD! We both really loved the eye patch as soon as we cracked it open. She picked up a pirate scarf while at Disney World a few weeks ago so we had to get her all dressed up to watch the DVD.

I was a little worried that she wouldn’t like it since most boys are into the whole pirate thing but I think with meeting Captain Jack Sparrow at Disney World and becoming a pirate really helped out.

She doesn’t mind watching the show and wants to be like Izzy. So this is a safe title for girls who are open to Pirates 🙂

My favorite thing about the Treasure Trove of Swashbuckling fun is the The Never Land Pirate Band. We love the CD that comes with the DVD. Keep in mind it is a sample CD but like us I am sure you will run out and get the full copy. It runs under $10 on Amazon. We should have our copy any day now 🙂

Overall this is one DVD you MUST add to your collection. Especially if your a Jake fan. All the extras really make this DVD package.

Yo Ho Mateys Away!

Parasol Parade at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Early rising guests at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa can enjoy a cheery parade of over fifty parasol-toting housekeepers on Mondays and Fridays. The tradition began when the Resort first opened in 1988. The Housekeeping Team members gather at 8 a.m. at the marina and slowly stroll through the Victorian courtyard around the pool. What a charming way to start the day!

Affordable In Room Fun – Disney Spa Night

Affordable In Room Fun - Disney Spa Night

Walt Disney World is such a fun vacation with so many add on features that you could never get bored, no matter how many times  you visit The Mouse.  However, some extras cost more than others and it all really comes down to your priorities and budget while on vacation.  The first few times we went to Walt Disney World with my daughter we were truly just lucky to be there.  We were young parents (and still are), with my husband still in college and working to support our family while I stayed home to take care of our baby. So extras like a spa day just weren’t possible for us at that time.  One thing I learned in the early years of our family is that with a little creativity you don’t miss out on anything and actually make some of the very best memories!

So instead of wishing for things such as a pricey spa day at the Saratoga Springs Spa with my daughter, I created an in room spa that we have enjoyed ever since!  I like to head down to the Basin Store at the Marketplace in Downtown Disney and pick up a few girly, good smelling bath products for us to use on our spa night.  They have some really fun products such as bath bombs, bath salts and soaps for really affordable prices.  They do a 3 for $15 deal on several of their products and a mix and match deals as well.  It is really great priced bath items, especially for a special occasion.  If you plan ahead, you could also bring your own bath products from home.  Bubble bath, nail polish and facial masks pack easy and don’t take up too much space.

After you have your bath products picked out, head out and find your favorite treats around Walt Disney World and get it to go!  I love to get a few cupcakes from Starring Rolls to take back to the Resort room.  Another option would be to get some fancy caramels from Karamell Kuche in Germany at Epcot.  My daughter and I love to sample all of our fancy treats while relaxing letting our face masks harden and watching a movie.

Start the night off by getting all relaxed using whatever bath products you’ve picked up.  Once all clean put on your favorite jammies and enjoy some treats while doing facials and painting nails.  Finish your evening off by falling asleep to a good movie and you should be totally rejuvenated for a full day at Walt Disney World when you wake up!

There is magic in everything at Walt Disney World and sometimes it is up to you to create your own.  Instead of spending $200.00 on a spa evening with my daughter at one of the spa’s on property, I usually spend about $20-$30 and make priceless memories!  It is a wonderful evening that we both look forward to every trip we take!
