U.S. Family Enjoyed Trip of a Lifetime to Rapunzel’s Royal Celebration at Kensington Palace in London

U.S. Family Enjoyed Trip of a Lifetime to Rapunzel's Royal Celebration at Kensington Palace in London

Disney made the dreams of the Senio family from Centreville, Va., come true by awarding them the grand prize in the “Your Princess Moment — The Story Begins With You” video contest. Along with their mother, Laurie Senio, the three little girls, Alli (age 8), Sammi (age 7) and Katie (age 3), were whisked away on a dream vacation fit for a princess — a trip for four to London to join the celebration as Rapunzel was officially welcomed as the 10th Disney Princesscharacter on October 2 at Kensington Palace.

The family received front row seats to the high profile, star-studded celebration and watched as Rapunzel was welcomed to the Disney Princess royal court by Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Snow White and Tiana. The family also joined more than 100 other little princesses from across the globe as they took part in all the festivities, including a procession through Kensington Park, party activities and a welcoming ceremony.

The three Senio sisters are all Disney fans and their video captured the essence of the princess moment represented by Rapunzel’s royal celebration. Their winning video was selected from several hundred entries.

According to their mother, the sisters have grown up loving Disney Princess films and the Disney Princess characters including Aurora, Tiana and the newest member of the Disney Princess royal court, Rapunzel.

“In the Disney Princess movies, the girls see that a girl can be kind, pretty and caring but still be smart, adventurous and stand up for herself,” said Senio. “This contest was a natural fit for our family. The girls were so excited to have this adventure. They woke up every morning asking if it was real. The actual event was so magical it felt like a dream had come true.”

Disney World Quick Tips – Tupperware

Disney World Quick Tips - Tupperware

Hey Moms!  Here is a Disney World Quick tip I use every time we stay at the Walt Disney World Resort

Keep your vanity area in your room tidy by packing along a few storage containers to keep your toiletries in.  Let’s face it, with kids (and even husbands) scurrying around in the mornings, little items such as hair clips, earrings and toothbrushes can get tossed just about anywhere.

Before you leave your room in the mornings, just toss all of the items in your storage tote and place them on the shelf in the bathroom.  It keeps everything organized and accessible.  It also allows for Mousekeeping to do a better job of cleaning that area of the room up!

It is always nice coming back to the resort room after a long day at the Park to a fresh clean room. Do yourself a favor and pick some cheap storage containers up for your next Walt Disney World vacation and give them a try!

Disney Food Confession: Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup

Disney Food Confession: Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup

Where To Find It:  At the Canada Kiosk during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

What is it? A wonderful blend of cheese, bacon, and beer that makes a really tasty snack.

Why You Want It: Because this is the same soup that is served in the acclaimed restaurant Le Cellier in the Canada Pavilion, and it has an incredible flavor!  My wife, niece, and I all sampled this, it costs $3.75 this year, and you get about a 3-4 ounce serving, so while small, the flavor hits you really nicely, and I felt like it was a great snack to enjoy!

‘The Avengers’ Trailer to Arrive on Tuesday

'The Avengers' Trailer to Arrive on Tuesday

Briefly: Marvel has announced that the trailer for their highly anticipated trailer for Joss Whedon’s epic crossover film, ‘The Avengers’, will arrive online on Tuesday. The film will feature Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and The Incredible Hulk all brought together to fight against a force too big for just one hero. I’m expecting it’ll be a compilation of the footage that was shown at D23 and the footage that will be shown at New York Comic-Con. I was really, really impressed by the footage at D23, so I can’t wait for those anticipating the movie to finally get a good look at the film. ‘The Avengers’ will be in theaters May 4, 2012. It can’t get here soon enough!

‘The Avengers’ stars Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, and Tom Hiddleston.

The randomly selected winner will receive two nights at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort, 12 complimentary one-day Park Hopper® passes, and $2,000 for airfare and travel expenses. The nationwide contest is based on student learning drawn from Destination Build, an online learning lesson that is housed in the Hospitality and Tourism student sector of the JA Student Center, available from the Junior Achievement website, www.ja.org. New Dooney & Bourke Comic Collection Arrives at Disney Parks in October

New Satchel from the Dooney & Bourke Comic Collection

I’m a big fan of the heritage of the Walt Disney Company. In particular, I love when Disney merchandise gives a nod to the past. There is a new Dooney & Bourke collection arriving in October at Disney Parks that draws inspiration from a rather humorous side of Disney – the comic strip. I spoke with Susan Foy, a graphic artist with Disney Design Group and self-proclaimed handbag aficionado, about this new comic-inspired collection.

New Barrel Bags from the Dooney & Bourke Comic Collection

“I created the layout for the Dooney & Bourke comic collection,” explained Susan. “I used comic panels that featured a variety of what I call ‘life moments.’ I particularly like the panel that says, ‘I think we’re out of cheese,’ as it captures a cute exchange between Mickey and Minnie.”

The history of the Mickey Mouse comic strip dates back to January 1930. The original Mickey Mouse comic strip was drawn for about a month by Disney Legend Ub Iwerks. Win Smith took over for Ub for about three months. The responsibility eventually fell to Disney Legend Floyd Gottfredson, who ended up drawing the strip for 45 years until he retired from the company. The original comic strip was followed up with a Sunday page version in 1932 (drawn by Manual Gonzales for more than 30 years) and eventually comic books (both for Mickey Mouse and, my favorite, Donald Duck).

Susan explained that a great partnership helped create the new collection.

“Once I completed the pattern, Laura Caszatt, who is the product developer, selected pop color trim for the bags,” continued Susan. “We then shared the finished designs with the Dooney & Bourke team, who applied them to some of the most popular bag styles. They have been great partners in creating these fun bags for Disney Parks.”

New Wristlets from the Dooney & Bourke Comic Collection

This collection will be the only one introduced for the upcoming holiday season. At Disneyland Resort, these bags will be introduced to World of Disney at Downtown Disney District and Disney Clothiers, Ltd. in Disneyland park. At Walt Disney World Resort, you can find these bags at World of Disney and TrenD and at Downtown Disney Marketplace and Uptown Jewelers in Magic Kingdom Park. The Disney Parks online store will introduce the collection in 2012.

I asked Susan about her personal collection of handbags.

“I have about 54 different handbags from a variety of designers,” laughed Susan. “I guess you could say I’m obsessed with them. I think handbags are like functional art – I can use them rather than place them on a shelf. I’m looking forward to these new bags as I like the black and white design with the splashes of color. Sometimes the most effective designs are simple and fun, which is just like this collection.”
