Disney Food Confession: Creme Brulee

Disney Food Confession: Creme Brulee

Where To Find It:  At the France Kiosk during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

What is it? Creme Brulee au Chocolate au Lait is a nice desert.  In English the title translates to “Chocolate Milk Creme Brulee topped with Caramelized Sugar”

Why You Want It: My niece and wife loved the Creme Brulee, for me, my favorite part of it was the caramelized sugar, the rest really wasn’t very sweet in my book.  However, it was smooth and creamy, and at $3.95, worth it for a snack to try out (and you can use your snack credits for it as well!)

Disney VoluntEARS Participate in CANstruction Competition

Disney VoluntEARS Participate in CANstruction Competition

Disney VoluntEARS recently participated in the 4th annual CANstruction Orange County competition.

The team used nearly 5,400 cans of food to create “SEA the Difference a CAN Makes,” which featured Flounder and Sebastian from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” Nearly 4,200 pounds of food including canned corn, black beans and juice pouches went into completing the structure.

CANstruction, a charity committed to ending world hunger, holds competitions around the nation in which teams compete by designing and building structures made entirely out of canned foods. Those canned goods are then donated to local charities – in this case, to the Orange County Food Bank.

Each year, CANstruction Orange County arranges for organizations to gather at South Coast Plaza and build several sculptures in conjunction with the Festival of Children. This year’s 14 participating teams donated nearly 70,000 canned items. To learn more visit www.canstructionoc.org.

'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' Vol. 3 & 4 Coming Out October 25th'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' Vol. 3 & 4 Coming Out October 25th

Fans of Disney XD’s ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’, rejoice! Disney is finally releasing the second half of the first season, volumes 3and 4 of the series on DVD on October 25. Featuring the final thirteen episodes of the first season, fans can relive the adventures of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk, among many others, as they fight to save the planet from villains like Loki and Kang the Conqueror! This is one of the best animated series on TV in my book, and one of the best superhero shows since ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ from the 90’s. These are definitely a worth addition to anyone’s collection who loves Marvel and animated shows. Definitely give this one a look.

Epcot Food & Wine Festival Food Review – Canada

Epcot Food & Wine Festival Food Review - Canada

This picture and review comes to us from Chip and Co fan Nick who was able to dine around the World Showcase and take in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the 16th Annual Food & Wine Festival.

Thanks Nick!

Here is his review of the Canada Booth:

Maple and Moosehead Beer-glazed Salmon with Barley Salad was very tasty, but the standout of the 2 for me was the Chicken Chipotle Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta

Shop like a Diva - Epcot Shopping

So, hopefully you’ve read about my favorite places to shop in Magic Kingdom and can’t wait to hear all about Epcot! Don’t forget that you can have all of your purchases sent to the front of the park for pickup or to your resort FOR FREE!! *

In Epcot

For all things Mickey: Mouse Gear (Future World): **DIVA’S FAVORITE SHOP AT WDW** If I’m going to drop some money at Disney World THIS is where I’m going to do it. Mouse Gears is, in my opinion, a much better-laid-out version of the Emporium in MK and is significantly less crowded. There are always some really cool t-shirts, hats, flip flops, purses, jewelry, photo frames, kids stuff (dress up, clothing & stuffed animals/toys), kitchen accessories, watches, you name it-Mouse Gear has it, and its easier to find!! I LOVE this store, it is my main-stay for shopping each trip.

For old-school Epcot T-shirts: Imageworks (Future World- Imagination! Pavilion) If you go inside the pyramid that houses the Journey to Imagination Ride you will find some really neat items. If you ever went to Epcot as child you will recognize some of the old-school designs, very 80’s classic with the faded look which is a unique way to “wear” Disney while at Walt Disney World and when you return home.

For stuff from around the World: World Showcase shoppes – The Diva Family does not buy any souvenirs from any of the countries because we much prefer to buy souvenirs because we have actually BEEN to a country, but that’s just us. You can find just about anything you’re looking for from tea in UK to chopsticks in China and everything in between by just browsing around in the pavilions. I’ve always thought that the items in Germany were some of the most amazing. The clocks are phenomenal. I was also shocked to find so many interesting items in Norway. Look around, you might find just what you’ve always wanted.

If you’re willing to take a short walk or boat ride to the Boardwalk Resort you will find some GREAT shopping there! I love to look around and just relax there for a while mid-day or in the early evening when the street performers come out.

Next in our shop like a Diva series is Hollywood Studios.

Could ‘John Carter’ Be in Trouble of Getting a Sequel?

Could 'John Carter' Be in Trouble of Getting a Sequel?

‘John Carter’ fans, don’t get your hopes set for a sequel just yet. After a name change, a string of reshoots in April, and rumors of the budget ballooning over $300 million, it looks like the movie is still far from the finish line of starting a franchise. Andrew Stanton, director of the film, has envisioned ‘Carter’ to be the beginning of a trilogy, chronicling the events of John Carter’s adventures in the ‘Barsoom’ series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The first book,  ‘A Princess of Mars’,  is the novel this movie is adapted from.   A recent report stemming from the New York Magazine suggests that in order for Disney to even begin considering a sequel, it’s going to have to make a huge chunk of change back. Just how much is that number? Find out after the break.

Wednesday with Walt: Securing the Magic

Wednesday with Walt: Securing the Magic

Walt Disney said, “I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.” I know exactly where Walt was coming from when he said that. Some people might see me as simple-minded, walking around with my head in the Disney clouds all the time. But I am acutely aware of how quickly this world is changing. And, it is evident everywhere…including Disney parks.

To me, we Disney lovers have a responsibility of sorts in helping people at the parks realize the magic by making sure nice things touch their lives. When Susan and I were at Walt Disney World a couple of weeks ago, there was a huge celebration – the 40th Anniversary. Magic Kingdom park was at full capacity and people were pushing and shoving and we literally witnessed a man step on the foot of a young woman to barrel his way through the crowd. He did not say a word to her, he just kept going. The sweet young girl, who was a visitor from England, said it did hurt and it was not nice for him to act that way. She and her husband, and Susan and I, were dumbfounded at how some people act toward others in today’s society. Susan said, “well, I apologize for his behavior for him” and I wholeheartedly agreed.

I planned that trip for months, and we even had t-shirts made up for the occasion that said “Celebrating Walt’s Dream – 40 Years.” It was a dream to be able to be there for the celebration and as I was going in I was thinking of how proud Walt would be that his dream is still coming true for families. I was also thinking about how selfless his brother, Roy, was to see his dream come true.

As we were standing in front of Cinderella Castle waiting for the celebration to begin, and watching people pushing and shoving and stepping on people without even so much as an “excuse me” or “I am so sorry,” I said to Susan, ‘this is absolutely not what Walt had in mind!’

Walt Disney World is and always will be the most magical place on earth. Watching the faces of children amazing at the wonder of this beautiful place is exactly what Walt had in mind. People from all over sharing in the happiness and then taking it back home and growing it infectiously around them was also what he had in mind. But I have to wonder what has happened to make some people in our society so cold and uncaring. I think we are going to have to start a new practice at the Disney parks. I call it Disney Darts!

Anyone who remembers the comedian, Gallagher, must remember his dart system. We could call the crime a Walt Infraction, dishonoring the memory of an ambassador of good will. It would work similar to this:

Each person entering the park would be given a vest made of a special material that suction cups would stick to, as well as a sucker-dart gun (similar to this pictured here minus the goggles).

Wednesday with Walt: Securing the Magic
Anytime someone does something at “The World’ that is not conducive with the magical spirit, other guests would shoot these suction darts at him or her. Ideally, there would be several different colors of darts, each one to indicate the type of infraction. Once someone had 3 darts attached to their vest, they would be escorted from the park.

I am guessing the conversation would go something like this:

PARK SECURITY: Sir/Madam, I am sorry but I must, unfortunately, escort you out of the park.

GUEST: But why? I paid good money to be in here.

PARK SECURITY: And we will be happy to keep that sir/madam, but did you notice that you have 3 Walt Infraction darts hanging on your vest? This means that at least 3 times, you have done something against the rules of basic consideration and human kindness that are required to be in the park.

GUEST: You’re crazy, I’m not leaving here, this is a free country.

PARK SECURITY: You are right about that, sir, but people in this country also have the right to experience the most magical place on earth without jerks ruining the good time. Walt had this basic principle in mind many decades ago and I have been retained by Disney fans to make sure you don’t impede that.

I think this would be a great system and they would only need to add maybe a few cents to each person’s ticket and get a great supplier who wouldn’t charge an arm and a leg to make it happen. Let’s take back the magic. Who’s with me?

Official: ‘The Lone Ranger’ Rides Again at Disney

Official: 'The Lone Ranger' Rides Again at Disney

It’s finally official, Disney is moving forward with ‘The Lone Ranger’. It seems it took a week longer than expected, but Deadline reports that Disney, director Gore Verbinski, actor Johnny Depp, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have all reached an agreement behind the scenes and that the movie will now be moving forward. The movie is looking to shoot at the beginning of 2012, for a possible 2013 release. Depp is still in line to play Tonto, and Armie Hammer is set to play the Ranger, but there is no word if the actors previously cast in other supporting roles will be returning.

What is it? A wonderful dish of Swedish Meatballs with a rich gravy and a wonderful contrasting taste of the Lingon Berries

Why You Want It: Because this dish is incredible.  I loved the meatballs, I loved the contrast of the berries, and even though my poor little picture only shows one left, we were actually served three meatballs for our snack purchase.  At $3.50, it is a nice price for a great appetizer.  This dish was my absolute favorite of all of the dishes I sampled.
