“Tap Tap Muppets” Launches on App Store

"Tap Tap Muppets" Launches on App Store

IT’S TIME TO PLAY THE MUSIC AS “TAP TAP MUPPETS” LAUNCHES ON THE APP STORE

New Free Muppets Music Game Will Have Fans Tapping Along To Music From Disney’s “The Muppets” Favorite Songs And Movie Soundtrack

Disney Mobile today released “Tap Tap Muppets” for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Available for free from the App Store, “Tap Tap Muppets” brings Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal and the rest of the gang together for what fans will surely agree is the most sensational celebration of their favorite Muppet music.

Based on the popular “Tap Tap Revenge” gameplay, the most successful mobile music franchise of all time, “Tap Tap Muppets” features six full tracks including three songs from Disney’s “The Muppets” soundtrack, which will be released by Walt Disney Records on November 21. The app also includes three of the most memorable songs from the Muppets tribute compilation, “The Green Album.”

“Tap Tap Muppets” Full Song List Includes:

· “Life’s A Happy Song” Performed by Jason Segel, Amy Adams and Walter
· “Let’s Talk About Me” Performed by Chris Cooper
· “Me Party” Performed by Amy Adams and Miss Piggy
· “The Muppet Show Theme” Performed by OK Go
· “Movin’ Right Along” Performed by Alkaline Trio
· “Night Life” Performed by Brandon Saller and Billy Martin (Good Charlotte)

“Tap Tap Muppets” is also jam-packed with video, character profiles, movie info, and more. In addition, players can connect socially to the Muppets.

“Given the important role music has always played with the Muppets, it makes perfect sense that ‘Tap Tap Muppets’ is the first Disney-branded game for the ‘Tap Tap’ franchise,” said Bart Decrem, general manager of Disney Mobile. “This app gives Muppets fans and gamers alike an opportunity to experience the beloved music of the Muppets in an entirely new environment.”

The launch of “Tap Tap Muppets” on the App Store coincides with the theatrical release of Disney’s “The Muppets.” On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze Muppet Studios and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the studio, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With a screenplay written by Jason Segel & Nicholas Stoller, the film is directed by James Bobin. Featuring signature celebrity cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011. The film is rated PG by the MPAA.

The “Tap Tap Muppets” App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, or at http://www.itunes.com/app/taptapmuppets

Is Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa Right For You?

Is Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa Right For You?

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa takes you back to the late-1800s upstate New York resort of the same name with its equestrian theme and Victorian style. Walking onto this sprawling resort and being greeted in the lobby by friendly cast members dressed in their finest as if they’re about to attend the horse races provides instant relaxation. Being a Disney Vacation Club resort, Saratoga Springs offers a wide variety of villas – anything from a studio villa to a three bedroom villa in a treehouse! Saratoga Springs is one of my home resorts and buying here was one of the best decisions my husband and I have made! This past January we invited some family to spend the week with us at the Treehouse Villas and we are now hooked! In fact, our second little boy is due at any second and already he has his first reservation to stay at the Treehouse Villas in May!

Pros:

  • Saratoga Springs is a large and sprawling resort that sits on 65 acres. Similar to it’s namesake in Upstate New York, this resort offers plenty of places to relax, whether it’s by strolling by gurgling water fountains, discovering the different walkways, buildings and their views, or spending time at the spa.
  • The staff is simply outstanding. In no other Disney resort have I experienced such wonderful service. From the managers to bell service, each has gone the extra mile to make my stay pleasant. The service at this lovely resort is top-notch.
  • When you stay at Saratoga Springs, you are within walking distance to Downtown Disney! Staying at the Congress Park section gives you the shortest walk to Downtown Disney. Being so close to the wonderful entertainment, shopping, and dining options is a wonderful perk of the resort, plus you’re just a short walk back home to the peace and quiet of your resort – truly the best of both worlds. And if walking isn’t your cup of tea, you can take a lovely ferry ride to Downtown Disney (ferry boats run approximately every 20 minutes)
  • You have a bunch of swimming choices when you stay at Saratoga Springs! From the 161,000-gallon High Rock Spring Pool, featuring beautiful rockwork with cascading water, a unique water slide, and zero entry to the newly opened Paddock Pool section with it’s own slide and food options to the quiet pool at the Treehouse Villas, you could spend all day at the resort and not feel like you’ve missed a thing! The pools are beautifully maintained and sure to delight all ages. Zero entry and slides are great for the kids and the hot tubs and whirlpools are fabulous for us adults who might actually get a chance to relax with a delicious fruity beverage offered at the pool bars.
  • Food. Besides having the multitude of dining options across the lake at Downtown Disney, Saratoga Springs resort has quite a few dining options that are quite nice. The food at the main building at Artist Point has a decent selection (try the flatbreads, you won’t be disappointed) and the Turf Club Bar and Grill is a really great steak restaurant that offers some beautiful golf course views.
  • Speaking of golf, this resort is a golfers dream with the Buena Vista Golf Course right on the property! The views are amazing, the course is great, and there really is no such thing as a bad day on the golf course at Disney!
  • There are so many activities for the kids at Saratoga Springs. In addition to 4 pools, there are also 2 playgrounds, a high-tech game room, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard and bike rentals. Community Hall offers ping pong, foosball, arts and crafts, and a variety of board games

Cons:

  • The size of the resort may be a con for some.  I’ve read in a few different places that some people find the walk from certain areas to the resort to places like High Rock Springs pool and the main house can be long. Having stayed in the Grandstand area before (one of the farthest from the Springs section), I don’t find this holds to be true. Then again, I’m a walker.
  • The resort has multiple bus stops. That may mean a slightly longer commute to the parks. If you stay at the Treehouses, it will take you two buses to get to the parks – one to get you to the Springs stop and the next to take you to the parks. That being said, you can always plan ahead – if you stay at the Grandstand section, you will be the first bus stop on the way to the parks AND the first stop coming home. If you stay at the Treehouses you can request a villa in the southern part of the Treehouses section. That way, you can skip the Treehouses bus and just walk directly to the Grandstand area.

Overall I think Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa is a real winner. The friendly staff, beautiful accommodations and gorgeous grounds make it a great choice for anyone coming to Walt Disney World.  Being so close to Downtown Disney but still being able to enjoy peace and quiet of a lovely resort is the perfect combination!

Disney Takes Four Themed Entertainment Awards

TEA Honors Go to Disney Attractions, Cruise Ship and Veteran Imagineer

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.  — The Force was with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently when Star Tours – The Adventures Continue earned one of four top Disney honors among the 18th annual Thea Awards announced by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA).

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, which opened at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort this past summer, took a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Attraction Refresh.  Other top Thea Awards went to The Magic, The Memories, and You! at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort for Outstanding Achievement – Show Spectacular and to Animation Magic at Animator’s Palate aboard the soon-to-launch Disney Fantasy cruise ship for Ingenious use of Technology.

TEA, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, gave the Buzz Price Thea Award Recognizing a Lifetime of Distinguished Achievements to Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde, who led the team that created and built Disney’s Animal Kingdom and who recently oversaw the creative development of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai’i.

The awards, to be presented at a March gala at the Disneyland Hotel, pay tribute to excellence in the creation of extraordinary experiences, attractions, exhibits and places around the world. TEA International Board President Rick Rothschild says the themed entertainment industry is “producing wonderful examples of achievement in a broader and broader market.”  And while technology, interactivity and sophistication of themed environments are key factors in presenting the awards, storytelling is at the heart of the best themed attractions.

“It all starts with story, and that’s certainly a thing well understood by Disney and by our industry,” says Rothschild, adding that the themed-entertainment creative bar gets higher each year.  “The proficiency and capabilities availed by technological advances do certainly play into the bar, but it’s not technology alone.  It’s the creative ingenuity of the individuals at all levels of our industry that challenge themselves to discover new ways of storytelling.”

The Thea Awards committee praised Star Tours – The Adventures Continue for staying true to the “Star Wars” stories and for the attraction’s “breakthrough experience” featuring new story elements, advanced special effects, guest interaction and 54 potential show scenarios.

The Magic, The Memories, and You! projection show at Cinderella Castle inside Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort won the top “Spectacular” category for its technology, visual creativity, adept directorial pacing and stirring musical score that deliver a “unique, emotionally fulfilling experience for the audience.”

Animation Magic in the Animator’s Palate restaurant aboard the forthcoming Disney Fantasy cruise ship won a Thea for its one-of-a-kind experience for diners at which they will see their own hand-drawn characters come to life and interact with animated Disney characters on a screen.  The fourth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, Disney Fantasy will set sail on its inaugural cruise in March 2012.

Joe Rohde, senior vice president and creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, will receive the Buzz Price Thea Award recognizing a lifetime of distinguished achievements.  Rothschild says Rohde represents “the continuing creative energy within our industry” and that “he’s a legend in his own time, of course.”

A 30-year Disney veteran, Rohde says he is grateful to TEA “for their gracious consideration of my name and efforts.

“It’s a great honor to be counted among the names that are already graced with this recognition,” Rohde says.  “I hope that I’ll have the opportunity for a few more lifetime achievements to flesh out my portfolio a bit, and better deserve the honor.”

TEA is an international non-profit alliance founded in 1991 and based in Burbank, Calif., that represents some 7,000 creative specialists including architects, designers, technical specialists and scenic fabricators who work in more than 650 firms in 40 countries.

App Review: Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!

App Review: Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!

Disney Publishing Worldwide’s new iPhone App “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!” by three-time Caldecott Honor winner Mo Willems is great for children of all ages!

The App is available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and touts several interactive features that makes it a stand out among other typical children’s book apps. Users “create their own adventure” by selecting various story element icons for use as the story unfolds. This customization feature will supply your kids with plenty of replay value. Another interactive element of the app allows the user to voice certain plot keywords Mad Libs style for playback during the story. That is one of my favorite features. Last, but not least author Mo Willems, takes you through a step-by-step tutorial on how to sketch the star of the story, the Pigeon. You will even be able to save your Pigeon drawing (as well as anything else you can sketch) in your iPhone’s camera roll.

If you’re a fan of Willems’ books the app will not disappoint. There are several cameos of his popular characters as well as a “read along” feature so parents and children can read along together or turn the Willems voice over off completely for a more traditional story time.

App Review: Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!

The only draw back is the actual drawing section of the app. As a pretty decent sketch artist myself I found using my finger to draw the Pigeon a bit cumbersome on the iPhone screen. Users would be better served by using a screen shield and a stylus to sketch out things. Secondly the use of motion control by way of shaking the screen to interact with the Pigeon only works during the introduction of the story. These are just minor drawbacks but not enough to detract from picking up this app.

“Interactivity has always been a key to the Pigeon books,” said Willems. “‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!’ takes that interactivity to the point where the child is not only the audience, but the author as well. I can’t wait to see what awesome ideas kids will come up with. They’re going to put the Pigeon through the wringer!”

As a new fan of Willems books’ style, art and characters I’m sure you’ll find this app to be charming and a good way to pass the time with your young ones.

App Review: Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!

Features of “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!” include:

  • A fully animated storytelling experience inspired by the award-winning children’s book series;
  • A starring appearance by the Pigeon, voiced by Mo!;
  • Three unique storytelling modes so that readers can enjoy limitless one-of-a-kind Pigeon stories;
  • Read-along option;
  • Ability to personalize the content with readers own voice;
  • Shake the Pigeon to start the stories;
  • A Pigeon drawing tutorial with Mo;
  • “Favorite stories” section where readers can create their own personal libraries.

“Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!” is available for $6.99 from the App Store on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

ABC Family and Donorschoose.org Join Forces To Launch Bright Students, Big Ideas Campaign

ABC Family is joining forces with DonorsChoose.org on the “Bright Student, Big Ideas!” campaign, www.ABCFamily.com/BrightStudents. For the first time ever, public school students in grades 9-12 will be able to work with their teachers to submit a project for funding. ABC Family will “Double Your Impact,” providing 50 percent of the project funding (up to $100,000 in total funding).

“ABC Family believes that every student can have a Big Idea, and we want to be a part of making those ideas a reality,” said Michael Riley, president ABC Family. “DonorsChoose.org, with its innovative micro-financing model, is the perfect platform to help us support students in the pursuit of the ideas that are most important to them. It is powerful to conceive an idea, work to make it happen and then see it come to fruition, and we want to be a part of empowering students to turn their Big Ideas into action.”

“Our partnership with ABC Family will help bring hundreds of innovative and inspiring ideas to life,” said Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org, “As a former teacher, I understand the importance of keeping students engaged and encouraging leadership development, the impact of which will be felt by the benefitting schools and communities for years to come.”

Whether supplying 15 copies of To Kill a Mockingbird for an 8th grade class in the Bronx, microscopes for a 7th grade science experiment in Detroit, or a field trip for a Baltimore history class to visit the Supreme Court in session, DonorsChoose.org visitors have helped fund – largely through micro-donations of $5, $15 and $20 – more than 200,000 teacher projects that served over 5 million students throughout the U.S., mostly in poverty stricken areas.

Now, with “Bright Students, Big Ideas” campaign on ABCFamily.com, students can take on a more active role. Here’s how it works:

  • Step One: The student shares an idea for his/her school with a teacher (teacher must be a full-time public school teacher). Students can be as creative as they like, as long as the initiative enriches the class, school or his/or her development. For instance, projects could range from creating an anti-bullying video to hosting a mock trial on an important issue facing students or even a beach clean-up or the creation of an organic garden to help the environment.
  • Step Two: Teacher submits the idea on the DonorsChoose.org website. Submissions will describe how student(s) came up with the idea for the project, how many students are involved, a request for project materials ranging from $100 to $1,300, and a description of how the teacher will work with them to develop it. All submissions have to include the keyword “ABC Family” in the title field in order to qualify for funding from ABC Family.
  • Step Three: Once the project request meets the necessary requirements, ABC Family automatically donates 50 percent of the total amount needed (up to $100,000).
  • Step Four: Once the project is fully funded, DonorsChoose.org will send the teacher and student all of the materials they need to bring the idea to life.
  • Step Five: Together the student and the teacher put the student’s idea into action. Photos and thank you notes are then sent to the donors who helped make it a reality.

Lucasfilm Registers New Domains for New Star Wars Project

Lucasfilm Registers New Domains for New Star Wars Project

It seems that George Lucas and the crew at Lucasfilm are trying to ride below the radar to avoid any Imperial entanglements by registering domains for a new mystery project from the Star Wars franchise.

Three domains—StarWarsIdentities.com, StarWarsIdentites.com (typo) and sw-id.com—were registered by Lucasfilm on Nov. 7 through brand protection firm Corporation Service Company.

There are many rumors swirling around the Star Wars community regarding these new aquisitions including a possible new videogame, live-action series as well as speculation as a tie-in to the new “Star Wars: Detours” television comedy show Lucas is working on with Robot Chicken’s Seth Green.

At this time the websites are not active but check back with Chip and Company as well as JediMouseketeer.com should any details surface.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Review

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Review

Disney and Christmas are two of my favorite things and when you combine the two, well let’s just say I get a little misty eyed. My husband Drew and I attended Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for the first time on November 13th. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was. Here are a some highlights from our experience and a few tips.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Review

Cinderella’s Holiday Wish
While this is not part of the party you can enter the Magic Kingdom in time to view they show. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald help the Fairy Godmother with Cinderella’s wish to have the castle sparkle like her glass slippers. It sets the mood for the party and you get to see the Castle Dream Lights sparkle for the first time that night. The show is nightly at 6:15 pm.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Review

Characters!
There are lots of great character meet and greets during the Christmas party. Several are only available during special events or are rarely out together, and most are wearing special Holiday outfits. The Seven Dwarfs are once again in Frontierland and if you want to meet them make sure you get in line early or you will be waiting a while. The party we attended wasn’t very crowded so we didn’t have much of a wait for any of the characters we saw. We were also able to meet Santa Claus at the beginning of Main Street.

Holiday Treats
At several locations throughout the park you can get cookies and hot chocolate. They are included in the price of your ticket so they are “free”. We picked ours up in Tomorrowland at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. The cookies were snickerdoodles. I was afraid with the amount of cookies they would be handing out that they wouldn’t be very good but they were soft, fresh, and yummy. You also receive a candy cane after you visit Santa Claus and when you are exiting make sure you stop to get a piece of peppermint Ghirardelli chocolate.

“A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas” Show
We watched this as we were devouring our Holiday treats. Its a small stage show at the Rockettower Plaza stage. Buzz Lightyear, Mike Wazowski, and Stitch make an appearance. I thought it was a really cute show and it was a nice way to take a break.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Review

“The Magic, the Memories, and You” Holiday Edition
Most of the show is the same but they have added a special holiday sequence. I love the show but I wish the entire show had been holiday themed. The castle looked beautiful as a present, candy cane, and a gingerbread house. The view is great from any where on Main Street but I prefer to watch it in the hub. The closer you are the more detail you will see.

Holiday Wishes – Celebrate the Spirit of the Season
Jiminy Cricket is the host of this holiday edition of Wishes and Tinker Bell takes her usual flight from the castle. The fireworks were specular as usual and there are some special perimeter firework sequences for the party.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Review

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade
This is my new favorite parade. How can you go wrong with gingerbread men, toy soldiers, and Santa Claus. The second parade was not as crowded as the first if you can skip the first one. I also recommend viewing this particular parade on Main Street. As we waited it started to snow and the Dapper Dans came out to sing Christmas carols. It also makes the parade more magical with Cinderella’s Castle all lit up in the background.

There are also dance parties with characters and the Celebrate the Season show in front of the castle. We didn’t have time to attend either of these but the kids really seemed to be enjoying the dance parties as we passed by.

Sitting on Main Street while it was snowing was one of the most magical things I have ever experienced. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party was well worth the extra money for the ticket and is now something I want to attend every year.
