Disney’s Prom Movie Review
Sophie and I were fortunate enough to receive a copy of the Disney movie Prom, which will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray beginning August 30. Rated PG, the film is about the buildup to the annual Senior Prom of Brookside High. Starring Aimee Teegarden as Nova Prescott, Thomas McDonell as Jesse Richter, Nicholas Braun as Lloyd Taylor, Danielle Campbell as Simone Daniels, and Nolan Sotillo as Lucas Arnez, these and the other actors in Prom form the perfect mix of high school students.
Everything is going really well in the three weeks before the Senior Prom. All the decorations have been made, the posters look incredible, and the tickets are being sold. However, just when everyone is counting down the days until the big dance, the world interrupts, and stress invades into the lives of these high school students.
It all started when Tyler asks his girlfriend Jordan to prom in the middle of all of the decorations, with a nice picnic dinner, and romantic candles to set the mood. However, when they leave the storage shed, one of the candles isn’t out, and that leads to a fire, which destroys all of the prom decorations.
Nova, though, the Class President, prom organizer, and all around good girl decides that the decorations can be remade, and with the reluctant help of Jesse, the oft-troubled teen who always seems to be in hot water, they get to work on the decorations.
While Nova and Jesse work on decorations, and try to avoid killing each other, Lloyd discovers that he has walked all through high school without making a mark anywhere, so he decides — with the help of his younger step-sister, that he needs to find a date for the Prom. Unfortunately for Lloyd, he has all the social skills that I did when I was in high school, which is to say that his experience was an abysmal failure.
As each day ticks off the calendar before the big date, it seems like something else keeps going wrong. The stress of the kids — and it’s important to remember that they are kids — keeps building up, and in the end, it just seems like it will be impossible for any of them to have a good time at the prom.
But then the day of the prom comes, and with it, all of the stress just washes away as the kids remember one important thing — it’s their Senior Prom, just a few days before many of them graduate from high school, and the world is shining brightly on them — well, most of them, anyway.
Prom is a great film, and the cast did a great job in capturing the spirit of being a high school student. They were able to capture the anxiety of some of the students; the stress involved with trying to determine where to go to college, and will their significant other be upset by the choice; and the confidence that a student like Rolo has, knowing who he is, where he is going, and who he is taking to prom.
Prom is a great movie for capturing some of the feelings involved with getting ready for prom, and graduating from high school. If you haven’t seen the movie, and you have children that either will or soon will be in high school, I highly recommend that you check it out.

Review: Disney’s Aladdin the New Musical
Hello my name is the Disney Apprentice. I will be providing reviews on new Disney channel shows and theatrical shows.
I have recently attended a showing of Aladdin the New Musical at 5th avenue theater in Seattle. It was spectacular. The musical told the same overall story but it used new characters that haven’t been featured in the Disneyland show or the Movie. Some new characters include:
- Babkak, Omar, and Kassim are storytellers who replaced the one storyteller at the beginning of the story but they also are in the show as Aladdin’s only friends throughout. (Babkak resembles Alan from the Hangover)
- Iago isn’t a bird he is just Jafar’s assistant
- The main character in the movie that aren’t in the show are Abu the Monkey, and Carpet.
Here is a list of all the musical numbers. The ones with * by them are the ones that were first ever used in this version or that has new lyrics. I won’t list the reprises of any of the songs, because there are a lot and they are similar.
Act 1
Overture
- Arabian Nights – Beginning the Story
- Bakak, Omar, Aladdin, and Kassim – A new song that shows the friendship of Aladdin and Friends
- One Jump Ahead – Escape the Guard
- Proud of Your Boy – Aladdin is talking to his dead parents
- Call Me a Princess – Jasmine Portrays herself as a bad wife by acting snotty and mean to her suitors in this song.
- Why Me – Jafar’s only solo
- A Million Miles Away – Gives A and J a chance to fall in love
- Friend Like Me – Classic Genie Song
- Act One Finale -Finishing Act One
Act 2
- Prince Ali – Aladdin parades in
- A Whole New World – A and J go on their carpet ride
- High Adventure – Bakak, Omar, and Kassim save Al in this wonderful addition
- Somebody’s Got Your Back – Genie gets them out of chains
- Wedding Day Suite – They are getting married
Finale
Comparison Aladdin the New Musical VS Aladdin the Musical
We will be comparing the new musical to the old show in California Adventure. In California Adventure the show in put on in a huge theater, that has been performing this show for years. As such they feature much more permanent effects compared to the New Musical. For example, the flying carpet in the New Musical is used in one scene and is on a pole on stage, but in the California Adventure version the carpet is used a lot and it flies above the audience. Even so the New Musical is an amazing and features some great acting, special effects and it definitely worth seeing.
So if you are in Seattle see Aladdin!

Epcot’s UK Pavilion Phone Booths

Epcot’s United Kingdom Pavilion compresses time and style into a brilliant rural/city/town progression and tour across the British Isles, sampling settings from the 1500s to the 1800s. As with other World Showcase stops, Walt Disney Imagineers spared no detail here. Stroll down cobblestone streets, venture through a knee-high hedge maze, laugh with comedic improv, or answer the telephone.
Answer the phone? Sure! The bright red kiosks on the north side of the Pavilion are not only some of the most photographed items at Epcot’s World Showcase, but are also real, working telephones styled after the ones designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and found throughout the streets of Great Britain.
These bright red structures call out to Guests—literally—to pick up the receiver and pose for a picture. If one happens to ring, don’t shy away. Grab it and give a grand, “Cheerio!” It very well could be me calling or perhaps someone who really is “across the pond.”
Not at the Parks right now? Dial up a red box and see who is. If you get a busy signal, someone’s probably got the receiver off the hook for a photo op. I take that as a hint that someone’s nearby, though, so I call right back. If no one picks up after about six rings, it goes to a fax machine type of noise.

Good luck and happy phoning!

Disney World Training 101: Package Delivery before you arrive

There are times when you just can’t cram all your supplies for a Walt Disney World vacation into your suitcase and still expect it to close. At least I can’t. Even if I can temporarily alter the laws of physics and zip my suitcase shut, these extra supplies can be mighty expensive with the additional fees airlines charge for either a second bag or an overweight bag.
It took me a few years to discover the answer to my problem…
You can ship items to your Walt Disney World resort and the bell stand will hold the items until your arrival.
It was like a Hallelujah moment, especially with all the disposable supplies such as diapers and sippy cups that I needed for my children.
I’ve had supplies delivered to Disney by three different means – from local Orlando-based companies such as Garden Grocer and Orlando Stroller Rentals, the United States Postal Service, and online purchases that shipped via UPS.
Orlando-based company. The first, delivery from an Orlando-based company, has been the smoothest in my experience. These companies deliver frequently to the Walt Disney World resorts and the process is well-defined and understood. When you place the order, you’ll pick a delivery date/time and specify the resort where you are staying. It’s that easy.
If I thought the ability to have items delivered to my Walt Disney World resort was a game-changer, imagine how thrilled I was to learn that the bell stands have the capability to store perishables, including frozen items. The kids could have milk and frozen waffles for breakfast!
United States Postal Service (USPS) and UPS. In past years, I have shipped a box of items for the kids via the United States Postal Service or USPS. Address the box to yourself at the Walt Disney World resort where you are staying. Adding your arrival date helps to ensure the bell stand can easily find your package when you arrive.
Sample:
Name of Resort
c/o Guest Name
Arrival Date
Address of Walt Disney World Resort
Online Orders from a Web-based Company. This past trip, the kids stayed home with Grandma so I just needed a case of water. I found a decent deal at Staples.com and had the case delivered to our resort. The problem was the bell stand couldn’t find it when we arrived. But, in true Disney spirit, the Cast Member wouldn’t give up and finally located it in the office of all places. Apparently, the staff thought the case of water was intended for the office since it was delivered via UPS and didn’t come with any other items. In case you were wondering, I did have my name and arrival date as part of the delivery address.
Once you arrive at your resort, call or stop by the bell stand and ask them to deliver your packages to your room; gratuities are appreciated.
What have you shipped to your resort?
