New GUM Star Wars Toothbrushes For Children Hit Shelves This Spring.

New GUM Star Wars Toothbrushes For Children Hit Shelves This Spring.

Coming soon to a galaxy not too far away is the latest advancement by GUM® in the epic battle between healthy teeth and cavities. GUM® encourages kids to learn how to perfect their brushing skills with the brand new line of GUM® Star Wars™ toothbrushes. Each toothbrush helps to make brushing fun, while teaching good habits that last.

According to a national survey, a majority of dentists say that children don’t brush long enough (90 percent) or properly (76 percent). However, nearly all dentists (99 percent) agree that making brushing fun, and the type of toothbrush used, can help motivate children to brush their teeth and establish healthy dental habits.

“The dental habits children learn at a young age can impact their overall dental health as they get older,” says Dr. Michael Ignelzi, D.D.S, Ph.D. “That’s why starting a routine early is so important. Using brushes with characters or features that get children excited about brushing, like those in the new GUM® Star Wars ™ line, can make brushing fun, and help them get into the routine.”

The GUM® Star Wars™ line of toothbrushes, features three different products that come in unique character designs:

The GUM® Star Wars™ Lightsaber™ toothbrush is lightsaber-shaped and flashes for 60-second intervals to encourage longer brushing. Plus interdental trim bristles align with the interdental arch to gently remove plaque between teeth. The unique molded lightsaber design is available in three character: Anakin Skywalker™, Yoda™ and Darth Vader™

The GUM® Star Wars™ Power toothbrush features ultra-soft oscillating bristles that gently massage gums and teeth, along with a suction cup base that reduces counter clutter and helps keep the brush head clean. Available in two characters: Darth Vader™ and Clone Captain Rex™.

The GUM® Star Wars™ Manual toothbrush comes in a twinpack and includes soft bristles with Dome Trim®, clinically proven to provide exceptional plaque removal on tooth surfaces and below the gum line. Available in four unique characters: Anakin Skywalker™, Yoda™, Darth Vader™ and Clone Captain Rex™.

“We are very excited about our partnership with Lucasfilm on the GUM® Star Wars™ toothbrush line and think it will be important in helping kids establish healthy oral care habits, which can impact their overall dental health as they get older,” said Ann Foppe, senior director of trade marketing for Sunstar Americas. “The new line of GUM® Star Wars™ toothbrushes is the perfect motivation for any Star Wars fan, and can help get kids excited about brushing with some of their favorite characters.”

The entire GUM® Star Wars™ toothbrush line will appear on shelves at most major retailers this spring.

Disney World Planning – Disney Plan of Action

Disney World Planning - Disney Plan of Action

Hello Disney Fans! Welcome to part 3 of my Disney World Planning series. Here is part 1 and part 2 in case you missed it. This series of articles will bring you along on my journey to plan my Disney vacation this coming September. So far we have covered making resort reservations and budgeting. Today I am going to talk to you about beginning what I call a Disney Plan of Action.

My Disney Plan of Action is a constant work in process. I begin by making a spread sheet that tracks the park hours during my stay. You can check the park hours for you stay be going to http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/calendars/.  Keep in mind that park hours are subject to change and therefore you should check them often. You can also use a service like Touring Plans! They are GREAT!

Once I know the park hours I can begin to plan what parks I will attend on each day. Often we only buy magic your way base tickets and concentrate our time on one park per day, but for this trip we a have park hoppers left over from a previous trip that we will use. When deciding what parks you wish to attend each day it is good to know if there are any special events or parties that are going to be happening during your stay. During our stay there are two big events that we would like to take part in. One is the Epcot Food and Wine Festival which runs from Sept 28, 2012-Nov 11, 2012. The other is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom. The Dates for the Halloween party have yet to be released, but by looking at the nights the Magic Kingdom closes at 7pm, I can guess that those are possible party nights.

Tip: It is important to note that The Epcot Food and Wine Festival is included with the price of park admission, but MNSSHP is a ticketed event which means you need to purchase a separate ticket to enjoy the party.

Once I know the park hours and have selected my parks for the day I can begin to plug this information into my spread sheet. Let me give you an example. September 28 is our first full day at Disney so I will take you through how I plan this day from start to finish.

Step 1. Make a list of park hours including which parks are having extra magic hours that day.

Sept. 28 2012

EP- 9am-9pm

HS- 8am-9pm (AM Extra Magic)

AK- 9am-6pm

MK- 9am-7pm (Possible MNSSHP)

Step 2. Select which parks will be the best fit for your day.  For this day I am going to bank on my prediction that MNSSHP will be at the Magic Kingdom in the evening. With this information in mind I am going to select Hollywood Studios for morning extra magic hours. Many touring plans will advise you to skip any magic hour parks, but we have good luck with EMH’s especially AM hours. We will get up at 6am and eat breakfast in our room. We usually pack cereal bars and things of this nature so we save money and time. Since we are staying at Boardwalk we can take the boat, bus, or walk to Hollywood Studios. We will likely walk to be in line by 7:40 am. This will allow us to head straight for Toy Story Mania and then onto Rockin’ Roller Coaster with very little wait.

Tip: If Toy Story Midway Mania is on your to do list, do not play around (pun intended)! Head straight to Pixar Place and grab a fastpass and get in line. During the off season I have seen lines shoot to 60min very quickly and Fastpasses are gone within a few hours of park opening.

We will likely take the boat from Hollywood Studios to Epcot’s World Showcase at around 10:30am to start enjoying Food and Wine at 11am. By 2 we will walk back to Boardwalk and hang out by the pool for a little while to unwind.

I will aim to make early dinner reservations, perhaps around 5pm and then head to the Magic Kingdom for the Halloween Party.

Step 3- Dining Reservations. Now I need to plug in where we would like to eat dinner that evening. Since breakfast was in our room and lunch was sampling foods at the Food and Wine Festival, dinner is our only reservation that day. I would like an early dinner to make sure I am at the Magic Kingdom by 7 for the Halloween party. Knowing this I am going to select a restaurant that is in the Magic Kingdom area or in the park itself.  I have a master list of possible restaurants which are:

Beaches & Cream

Le Cellier

Via Napoli

Crystal Palace

‘Ohana

California Grill

Cape May Café

Boma

Tusker House

Tip: Making a master list of restaurants is a great idea. I plan a few family meetings to decide what we are going to do and where we want to eat. The first meeting we have everyone chooses one restaurant they would like to try or must go back to. During this meeting we pour over menus and come up with a list of potential eateries. It’s a fun way to get everyone excited about the trip.  Stay tuned for another article in this series about Family Vacation Planning Meetings!

California Grill will probably be my first choice for this particular night followed by ‘Ohana in the number two spot.  Both of these restaurants are on the Monorail loop and will allow me to get to the Magic Kingdom easily. I am going to aim for an early seating.  Both of these restaurants fill up fast so I need to be ready to make my reservations as soon as my window opens. By having a plan and a backup plan, it will be very easy to communicate with the reservation specialist when I call in. I am never left stumped when a reservation cannot be made.

AM PARK Lunch Dinner PM Park

28-Sep

HS 8a-9p EPCOT Cali Grill MK 7p-12

This is what my rough draft  spread sheet for the day will look like. Keep in mind I am constantly updating things! As things get confirmed I will plug in conformation numbers and reservation times.

Thanks for planning with me. How do you plan your days? Do you need any help putting a plan together? Feel free to email or comment with any questions or ideas!

Next week I will show you my complete spread sheet for my trip along with how I plan extra activities. As I plan I will also show you how I order groceries, book my flights for the lowest fares, secure child care, plan family meetings, and even how I prepare my house for going out of town! Thanks for reading!

Turner Classic Movies & D23 Present Two Extraordinary Disney Classics on the Big Screen

Turner Classic Movies & D23 Present Two Extraordinary Disney Classics on the Big Screen

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is working with Turner Classic Movies to present two incredible Disney live-action film classics during the upcoming TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood.

On Friday, April 13, Kirk Douglas will be present at Grauman’s Chinese Theater for the first public screening of the newly restored 1954 action-adventure 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  On Saturday, April 14, comes a 75th-anniversary screening of the “fairest of them all,” Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Check out the full press release below.

Turner Classic Movies & D23 Present Two Extraordinary Disney Classics on the Big Screen

For the second consecutive year, the TCM Classic Film Festival will celebrate the legacy of
The Walt Disney Studios. Turner Classic Movies (TCM), in collaboration with D23: The
Official Disney Fan Club, will present a 75th anniversary screening of Walt Disney’s
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Disney’s first hand-drawn feature-length
animated film. In addition, legendary actor Kirk Douglas will present the first general public
screening of the newly restored (from original camera negatives) live-action adventure, 20,000
Leagues Under the Sea (1954).

On Saturday, April 14, Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will screen at
Grauman’s Chinese Theatre at 1 p.m. This film revolutionized the art of animation with its
cutting edge technique, design and storytelling – setting animation in pursuit of an ever more
realistic look. Moreover, it demonstrated animation’s viability as a legitimate cinematic art form.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences bestowed a special Academy Award® on
Walt Disney, recognizing Snow White as “a significant screen innovation which has charmed
millions and pioneered a great new entertainment field.” The unique Oscar® trophy consisted
of one full-sized statuette standing next to seven miniature versions. The film also earned an
Oscar® nomination for Leigh Harline’s memorable score.

In 1997, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was named one of the 100 Greatest Films of All
Time by the American Film Institute (AFI). The following year, the AFI named it the greatest
American animated film of all time.

On Friday, April 13, at 2:45 p.m., Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas will be present at Grauman’s
Chinese Theatre for the first public screening of the newly restored 1954 adventure film epic,
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the first live-action feature film shot at Walt Disney’s Burbank
studios. Disney recruited an A-list cast including Kirk Douglas, James Mason and Paul Lukas,
and a set budget of $9 million, the largest in Hollywood history at that time.

Walt Disney had originally planned to turn Jules Verne’s tale of Captain Nemo’s battle to wipe
out warfare into an animated feature. But when he saw designer Harper Goff’s preliminary
sketches, he decided to make the switch to live action. To film the massive production – the
studio’s first in CinemaScope – Disney added a water tank and a third soundstage to his
studio, rented additional space from 20th Century-Fox and Universal, and sent cast and crew
to the Caribbean for underwater shooting. His technicians also had to develop new equipment
for the film’s many underwater scenes and create a giant, two-ton squid for the film’s most
impressive sequence.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea went on to earn two Oscars®, one for the eye-popping visual effects and one for John Meehan and Emile Kuri’s art direction and set decoration. The film earned a third nomination for Elmo Williams’ editing.

Operation Undersea, an episode of the Disneyland TV series highlighting the creation of the film, won Emmys® for Best Individual Program of the Year (1955) and Best Television Film Editing.

WonderCon 2012: Marvel Television Panel Recap

WonderCon 2012: Marvel Television Panel Recap

This year , I got the chance to cover WonderCon at the Anaheim convention center. One of the panels I was most looking forward to was the Marvel TV panel, because I was looking forward to seeing what Marvel had in store for it’s television division. And let me just say, they did not disappoint! Jeph Loeb made sure he went all out for the fans, bringing us a first look at the new Marvel Mash Up shorts for Disney XD, as well as the pilot episode for Ultimate Spider-Man, and the season premiere of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

The first thing Jeph showed us was the new Marvel Mash Up shorts that will be airing during shows on Disney XD. They took scenes from some of the old Marvel cartoons like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and dubbed over the original audio recordings to make them even sillier and goofier than they were before. They really are a lot of funny, and they had the crowd in stitches.

Then we were showed test footage for a new Marvel cartoon Hulk vs. the Agents of SMASH, that will premiere on Disney XD next year. The show will follow Hulk, Red Hulk, She Hulk, Skaar, and A-Bomb as they fight new villains weekly. It’ll be part of the Marvel Universe block that Disney XD is premiering on April 1. And one show is kicking off the new Marvel Universe block, and that is the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. We were lucky enough to get a chance to see the full two part pilot, and it does not disappoint. Loeb was quick to point out the show was made for kids of all ages, meaning from young kids to their parents, and everyone can enjoy it. The show is really well put together, and is based off the Ultimate Spider-Man run of comics. Spider-Man is voiced by Drake Bell in this incarnation of the series. The thing I really enjo sy is that the show gets inside the mind of Peter Parker, and we see the inner workings of his mind, and usually to comical results. Everyone in the panel really loved the show, and the kids their were eating it up. This is the perfect show for families, so don’t forget to set the DVR for April 1. Loeb also hinted that the show will take place inside their ever going Marvel Movie Universe, which makes it that much more exciting.

And last, but certainly not least, after months of anticipation, we were treated to the season premiere of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! This will be the second half of the new Disney XD block. I’d been eagerly anticipating the return of this series since the cliffhanger finale of season 1, and I can say the wait was absolutely worth it. The season premiere picks up immediately following the events of the finale, and features the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom, all of which plays in to what will be a big story arc this season. It appears someone in the team can’t be trusted…but who is it and why? Those are the questions posed as the episode progresses, and you’ll get a few on the answers along the way. But thankfully, it’s still got the fun and comical tone at times that the first season had, mainly coming from the Hulk and the Thing’s feud throughout the episode. Season two will premiere right after Ultimate Spider-Man on April 1.

Loeb then let us know that the live action shows of Hulk, The Punisher, Cloak and Dagger, and Mockingbird are all still in active development right now, but we won’t be hearing more about them until they get farther down the creative process. I look forward to hearing more about the shows in the coming months. He than sadly informed us that there is no plans to bring back Wolverine and the X-Men, their incredibly popular cartoon series, at this time.  Marvel really is coming along way from being more than just a comic book company. They’ve become one of the leading names in entertainment across the board, dipping into not only comics, but movies and television as well. There is a lot to look forward to if you’re a Marvel fan over the next few years. As we learn more, you’ll know more. I can’t wait to see where they go.

Some of the best Disney World Pool Areas

Some of the best Disney World Pool Areas

With summer just around the corner and the temperatures climbing steadily, we are thinking of ways to cool off! Fortunately, Walt Disney World is home to some awesome pools to offer some relief from the heat.

1. Stormalong Bay-This pool, at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, is like a mini-water park! The pool is gigantic with a sand-bottom which is a big hit with guests. There is also a lazy river and a waterslide resembling a fallen ship’s mast! Obviously, this pool is on a whole other level and is definitely the best pool at WDW.

2.Nanea Volacano PoolThe Polynesian’s pool is a big favorite. Here you swim in the shadow of an erupting volcano which also serves as a slide! This pool also features a beach entry, which means you can walk right into the pool, along with a waterfall as well. There’s also a children’s water jet play area nearby for more fun. If that all wasn’t cool enough, head to the pool at night to see Wishes over the Magic Kingdom and the Electrical Water Pageant from your pool.

3. Uzima Pool-Animal Kingdom Lodge’s main pool is 11,000 square feet! Uzima Pool also features a beach entry, as well as a water slide and nearby hot tubs for guests who either want to cool off or relax. Sometimes you can even see animals from the pool! This is a beautiful pool for a beautiful resort and popular with many guests.

4. Luna Park Pool-This pool at the Boardwalk Inn has a carnival, circus theme with an awesome slide called the Keister Coaster. This is a great pool for kids; but adults are also known to enjoy it too! Many guests say that this pool is one of the best things about the Boardwalk Inn so be sure to consider it on your next trip.

5. Bowling Pin Pool-Located at Pop Century, this underrated pool at a value resort may seem like an odd choice. However, as many guests are budget conscious, value resorts are popular resort destinations with some really great pools. Pop Century’s bowling pin pool is literally shaped like a bowling pin, a feature which both adults and kids find to be really cool! The scenery is also great with a giant jukebox towering at one end of the pool. The bowling pin pool is also very clean and often less crowded than the 60’s Hippy Dippy Pool which everyone seems to flock to.

Now it’s your turn to tell us what your favorite pool at WDW is. Did yours make our list?
