Get Wild for Less on the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Get Wild for Less on the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

For a limited time, you can get wild for less on the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

Now through August 25, 2012, you can save $50 on treks at or after 11:45 a.m.

I recently took a trek deep into the Pangani Forest with Josh Sussman, an actor known for his roles on “Wizards of Waverly Place” and as the lovestruck gossip columnist Jacob on “Glee.” He’s also provided the voice of Randy, a sinister crab on Disney Channel’s hit show “Fish Hooks,” so Josh knows a little about interesting animals.

Our VIP excursion took us hiking through the jungle, walking across battered footbridges, traversing riverbeds teeming with giant crocodiles, learning about hippo herds and staring skyward to spot giraffes. A Florida shower hit as we boarded our private safari vehicle, which even added to the fun as we had a chance to study the animals through our binoculars as they enjoyed the cool rain on the savanna. By the time we reached our safari camp that overlooked the expansive savanna, the rain had stopped and the sun returned, providing a nice setting as we enjoyed a tasty selection of African-inspired foods.

In addition to leading our tour and entertaining us with their knowledge of the animals, our Safari Guides also tag-teamed as our personal trek photographers. Included in the price of each trek is a photo CD with professional photos of the tour and the exotic animals you’ll spot along the way.

Fans of ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’, sad news. Marvel has cancelled the much loved series, so season two will be it’s last. Rumors have been spreading recently that Marvel would be killing the show to bring it in house and make a new series, like what they did with ‘The Spectacular Spider-Man’ and ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’. This is sad news indeed, and I’m for one very disappointed. ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ is one of the best animated series is currently, what I consider one of the best animated series on television right now.  Hit the jump for the first look at the new series.

Their performance testing complete, guests will move into a post-show area filled with special effects and be scored on how well their custom concept vehicle did.

The Test Track refurbishment is part of a new multi-year alliance with General Motors. As Chevrolet marks its 100th anniversary, the new alliance agreement enables General Motors to tell its story in new and exciting ways to millions of guests from around the world and continue as the official vehicle sponsor of Walt Disney World Resort.

Top Five WDW Non Theme Park Activites For Adults

Anyone who has ever been to Walt Disney World can tell you that there is a whole world beyond the 4 theme parks, with so many things to do that you could spend a whole week doing them and not even set foot in the Parks! Of course, I wouldn’t recommend that, as the Theme Parks are amazing too, but what I would recommend is that you try some of these awesome non theme park activities for when you need a little break from all the Park action:

Disney World Trip Planning – Learning before you even leave home

Disney World Trip Planning - Learning before you even leave home

As parents, we will all be faced with the potentially gut-wrenching decision of whether to take our kids out of school for our Walt Disney World vacations or go during school breaks. Kelly (aka Disney Guru) recently tackled the subject and looked at different considerations that factor into this decision. One was the educational benefits of a Walt Disney World trip. This got me thinking – there are educational benefits to a Walt Disney World trip before you even leave home.

My son is a Disney World fan (no surprise there) and can spend hours virtually planning Disney World trips for us and family members. Here are some skills he’s learned or has mastered all through Walt Disney World trip planning.

Boba Fett Actors Bulloch, Logan, Morton and Beer to Appear at Star Wars Celebration VI

Boba Fett Actors Bulloch, Logan, Morton and Beer to Appear at Star Wars Celebration VI

>The actors who portrayed the galaxy’s favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett, will be at Star Wars Celebration VI this August. In addition to anticipated appearances on the live stages, they will be signing autographs and meetings fans in the Celebration Autograph Hall run by Official Pix.
Jeremy Bulloch might be known best for his role as the bounty hunter Boba Fett, but the British actor can be seen on the screen without the iconic helmet, both in and out of the Star Wars Saga. In addition to his role as the merciless mercenary in battered battle armor, Bulloch has also appeared as Captain Colton in Revenge of the Sith and as Lieutenant Sheckil in The Empire Strikes Back.

‘Captain America 2’ Finds a Directing Duo in Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo

'Captain America 2' Finds a Directing Duo in Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo

It appears that ‘Captain America 2’ has found it’s directors from a very unusual place. Anthony and Joe Russo, best known for their work on NBC’s ‘Community’ and the films ‘You, Me, and Dupree’ and ‘Welcome to Collinwood’ are in final negotiations to take the rains of the sequel to last years Joe Johnston directed film. Not much is known about the plot at this time, but the sequel has been scripted by the first film’s writers Chris Markus and Stephen McFeely, and with Chris Evans reprising his the titular hero. The little we know is that the movie will continue following Steve as he deals with his new life in a new time.

What to do when one size doesn’t fit all?

What to do when one size doesn’t fit all?

With millions of visitors from around the world, it would be impossible to fabricate accommodations that would be ideal for everyone in Disney parks. If the “one size fits all” philosophy doesn’t apply to you, don’t worry, you aren’t out of luck.

There are three main areas where the majority of size worries may arise: rooms, restaurants and rides. In true Disney style…there really is something and somewhere for everyone; let’s look at what Disney is doing to make their parks fit for everyone.

  1. Rooms: If you would prefer a king sized bed, be sure to request one at the time of your reservation.. Rooms with king beds are becoming increasingly limited so if this is important to you, be sure to note it up front. While the Disney resorts have all of that Disney magic you’ve come to love, they may not have the square footage you have become accustomed to. Value resorts generally have the same square footage (approximately 260 sq ft) the moderates vary in size. To view the room layouts and footage and take a virtual tour click here. Caribbean Beach offers the most space (340 square feet) and the other moderates have 314 square feet.
  2. Restaurants: When you make your dining reservations, request a table or booth, whatever is more comfortable for you and when you check in at your restaurant, make your request again with the host or hostess. There are chairs without arms available at most restaurants. If you have any additional concerns about your dining experience, ask a cast member; they should either assist you, or find someone who can.
  3. Rides: If there is ever any doubt that one size doesn’t fit all, take a visit to Fantasyland. These rides are built for little one’s and you’ll find the accommodations are suited for pint sized prince’s and petite princesses. Look around the attraction before you get in line and see if you think the space is adequate for you, some attractions have ride cars outside so you can physically “test drive” them. Disney is always focused on safety first, ask a cast member for a seatbelt extender if you aren’t comfortable with the standard lap belt. Here’s a fast fact-Rock’n Roller Coaster and Test Track have more leg room in the front cars, Space Mountain has more leg room in the back car.

Of course there are far more needs than fit into these categories, so here are a few extra tips:

  • The restrooms will all have a limited amount of handicapped accessible stalls which will give you more space.
  • The turn styles at the park gates aren’t the only way in, ask to go through the stroller gates if you’re worried about fitting through the turn style.
  • Know your options-Different rides and attractions offer different types of seating (lap bar, overhead bar, theatre seating, etc) know what doesn’t work for you and ask a cast member if alternatives are available.
  • Check weight and activity restrictions on tours and special experiences, for example horseback riding and the Segway tour have a limit of 250lbs.

If you have a specific worry that isn’t listed, ask a cast member, or your Pixie Vacations travel agent or do some research online. Our friends over at Passporter have an entire forum dedicated to “Pooh sized” travelers and they have unlimited tips, tricks and resources!

Disneyland Resort Guests Can Now Purchase Park Tickets Through Their Smart Phones

Disneyland Resort Guests Can Now Purchase Park Tickets Through Their Smart Phones

Disneyland Resort guests have a new way to purchase theme park tickets – from their smart phones! Starting today, the Disneyland Resort will begin testing this technology at the Main Entrance during busy times, all in an effort to help guests get their tickets and get into the parks faster to start enjoying their day. This is just one more option for guests, in addition to purchasing tickets at Resort ticket booths or from Disneyland.com.

From your smart phone, go to m.disneyland.com and select “Buy Tickets” from the home page. Right now, only 1-Day 1-Park, and 1-Day Park Hopper tickets are available, but 2-Day tickets will be added to the service later. After entering the number of tickets you want (up to a maximum of 15), and your credit card information, you will receive a confirmation with a barcode that will be scanned as you enter the park for which you’ve purchased your ticket. From there, you will be given a paper park ticket, which is still needed for park hopping or re-entry if you should leave the park and return later.

Carrie Fisher to Appear at Star Wars Celebration VI

Carrie Fisher to Appear at Star Wars Celebration VI
Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa)

The original princess with an attitude, Carrie Fisher, is slated to appear at Star Wars Celebration VI during the show weekend of August 23-26, 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center. Fisher, Princess Leia Organa in the original Star Wars trilogy, will be greeting fans and signing autographs in the Celebration Autograph Hall organized by Official Pix, and is scheduled to appear on stage for an interview and a question and answer session with Celebration host James Arnold Taylor.

Fisher, an audience favorite for both her onscreen and onstage roles, was 19 years old when she became a cultural icon as Princess Leia in A New Hope. Her film career started when she was even younger, playing opposite Warren Beatty in Shampoo in 1975. She is the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. In addition to A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, Fisher has performed in numerous movies and television series, including memorable appearances in The Blues Brothers, The Man with One Red Shoe, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Burbs, When Harry Met Sally, Austin Powers, Heartbreakers, Fanboys, Sorority Row, and in her own television specials, including the autobiographical Wishful Drinking.

Though she is famous for her film, television, and stage roles, Fisher devotes much of her time to writing. She has penned several novels, including the semi-autobiographical Postcards from the Edge, which was made into a successful movie starring Meryl Streep. Her other works include Surrender the Pink, Delusions of Grandma, The Best Awful and Wishful Drinking.

Don’t miss Carrie Fisher at Star Wars Celebration VI!
