Disney Confidential – Are Wristbands Going to Replace Tickets at Disney?

Disney Confidential - Are Wristbands Going to Replace Tickets at Disney?

Hey there guys and gals! It’s me… Anonymouse and I have been searching up and down and had my ear to the ground listening for some juicy new tips for you. Of course with all that work, I have stumbled upon something very interesting!

Word on the street (Main Street of course!) is that wristbands are going to be replacing tickets at Disney’s theme parks! What you say? How is that…seems like a reverse in technology, right? Well these are special (magical even!) wristbands that are going to take some of the headaches away from keeping up with those tickets. How do we know this…well the reason we know that this change is in the works is because Disney filed documents recently with the FCC asking for approval for a wristband that will be used for admission privileges to major theme parks like Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California. Seems pretty legit…right?

Anyway, these bands can be worn throughout the day and are designed to be disposable as well as waterproof (think Splash Mountain)! The bands also communicate with a 2.4GHz spectrum (whatever that means…ask Chimp, he is good with that stuff).  The other selling points of the band is that they can be personalized with a specific name, so helping Disney keep in check that tickets are non-transferable; and there will be some interaction with FastPass and the next generation of FastPass.

There is also a possibility that the band will be your key to your hotel room at Walt Disney World, basically it could replace the whole Keys to the World card.

Sounds pretty cool but I am sure there is a downside….what do you think? Will it be a good system? Let me know in the comments below!

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now. For my past Gossip articles be sure to check them out here.

Test Track to Reopen at Epcot December 6th

Test Track to Reopen at Epcot December 6th

Many of you have been asking for an update on the reimagining of Test Track – Presented by Chevrolet at Epcot, and I’m happy to say that we finally have some news to share: The attraction will officially reopen to guests on December 6.

When Test Track reopens, this reengineered attraction will allow guests to experience the fun world of automotive design firsthand. Guests will first enter a Design Studio and make a series of selections (as an individual or a group) to create their ideal virtual custom concept vehicle. They then board a six-passenger SimCar for a test drive to see how their own design compares to the attraction’s SimCar in Capability, Efficiency, Responsiveness and Power.

And it sounds like the post-show will be just as much fun. Here, guests can see how well their car performed, and race it over changing terrains and extreme conditions on a digital driving table. Guests can also produce and star in a TV commercial for their custom cars, explore a Chevrolet showroom that will feature the latest models, and more.

Bluray Review – The Great Mouse Detective Mystery in the Mist Edition

Bluray Review - The Great Mouse Detective Mystery in the Mist Edition

On October 9, 2012 fans can experience Disney’s greatest little mystery in High Definition picture and sound, and go on a great big adventure as “The Great Mouse Detective” Mystery in the Mist Edition” arrives on 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack and HD Digital. When the diabolical Professor Ratigan kidnaps London’s master toymaker, the brilliant Basil of Baker Street and his trusted sidekick Dawson try to elude the ultimate trap and foil the perfect crime. This family classic on Disney Blu-ray proves big heroes come in small packages.

This is my first time seeing this movie and my first experience with Blu-Ray. I can not believe that I did not experience Blu-Ray sooner because the sound and the graphics are definitely a step up from regular DVD.  This movie was originally made in 1986. It will be released again on Oct 9. I highly recommend this movie it is a classic good vs evil story. This movie appeals to people of all ages, to my surprise my 14-year-old daughter also loved it and she was cheering for little Olivia the entire time. My favorite character is little Olivia Flaversham, she is sweet and innocent yet tough when she has to be and that makes her the perfect Disney character. Little Olivia is the most adorable little mouse, next to Mickey and Minnie of course. My favorite part was the end when they all got together to fight the Evil Professor Ratigan, who is voiced by the incredible Vincent Price.

Disney is famous for their attention to detail and this movie is no different, be on the lookout for a small appearance from Dumbo. I thought that was a really nice surprise.

Saving on Souvenirs at Walt Disney World

Saving on Souvenirs at Walt Disney World

For many of us the trips we plan to Disney are about making memories, family time and good old-fashioned fun.  For our kids it’s about all that…and the souvenirs.  Let’s face it Disney is pretty good at tempting us adults too!  They have exclusive Park Only merchandise and the cutest little sweatshirts, stuffed toys, trading pins…OH MY!  I could go on and on.  They have not been in business for this long without knowing how to merchandise.  Here are a few tips to keep your wallet happy as well as your kids (and you).

1.  Buy Before You Go.  Check out the Disney Store or Disneystore.com for small gifts you know your kids will enjoy.  The key here is small as you are going to bring them with you on your trip.  Little princess cell phones, McQueen bouncy balls, stuffed Tiggers are all good ideas.  Looking for these items on sale is the objective.  Even other stores like Target, Kohl’s or Toys R Us carry Disney items.  Pick up what you can and put it aside.  Tip:  If you are flying and have so much of this stuff that you require an extra piece of luggage, you probably aren’t saving money.  If it makes sense you can also mail packages to your resort ahead of time.  Again weigh the cost here of shipping.

Disney Exhibit Draws More Guests to Reagan Library

Disney Exhibit Draws More Guests to Reagan Library

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in CA, which has been hosting the “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”   has experienced an estimated 10 percent boost in attendance mainly attributed to the exhibit.  At 12,000 square feet, this is the largest exhibition ever curated by the Walt Disney Archives as well as the largest temporary exhibit at the Reagan Library.

The exhibit, which opened at the Library on July 5th and will run thru April of 2013, features more than 500 artifacts from over 90 years of Disney history and is being presented by D23 – The Official Disney Fan Club.  Exhibits include cartoon sketches, storyboards, costumes and movie props.  Many items are being seen by the public for the first time.

Not only does the exhibit mean more revenue for the Reagan Library, but also more publicity.  The Reagan Library has been recently visited by foreign television crews as far away as China and Turkey.

The exhibit has been so successful that the library has also offered special events surrounding its visit.  A Haunted Halloween Celebration will take place on 10/26 with guests invited to dress up as their favorite Disney character.  The library is also hosting Disney lunch/tours with featured Disney guest speakers as well.

Is a trip to the “Treasures of the Walt  Disney Archives” in your future?  Or have you been?  Let  us know!

Ten Reasons Why You Should Stay at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Ten Reasons Why You Should Stay at Disney's Polynesian Resort

Recently my clan and I stayed at Disney’s Polynesian Resort and we fell in love! Our only other experience with Disney Resorts was the Caribbean Beach Resort. While we enjoyed the Caribbean Beach Resort, and would recommend it, the Polynesian suited us much better.

You can ask anyone who has stayed at the Polynesian why they love it and you will get a multitude of answers. Some may agree with what I’m about to say and some may think I’m completely bonkers.

To give you some perspective, we are a family of five, three children 7 (at the time) and under. We spent most of our time at Epcot and Magic Kingdom. We did not visit the water parks. We utilized the Quick Service Dining Plan.

Now, let me gush about the Polynesian and why it’s so great!

  1. Tranquility. Even though you are very close to the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom, the atmosphere of the Poly is laid back and relaxing. After an early morning in the parks, it was delightful to return to the Poly and grab a snack, a Dole Whip even, and relax near the pool or on the beach. I would say it was great to chill out in our room, but our experience with Mousekeeping was less than desirable. Our room was never ready before 2 pm, with one day being as late as 5 pm. When it was finally ready, however, it was nice to rest for a little while before returning for the evening events in the parks.
  2. Location, Location, Location. The ability to see the Water Pageant, Wishes and have personal space while doing so is fantastic. Nothing is like viewing Wishes from inside the Magic Kingdom, however, watching from the beach at the Poly gives a whole different perspective.
